Aussie ROTSC Lyrics Mystery!!!
buffaloman_R Hello everyone, :bm_r:

Took my usual monthly to Plan 9 Music in Carytown (A very popular independant record store chain, check out their website www.plan9music.com), and to my surprise, I found and bought all the Jamiroquai albums, BUT the Australian versions. Main reason I bought them was that I wore the original CDs I had, lots of scratchs and sound distortion on them. When I got to the Aussie ROTSC CD, I noticed something very weird, some of the lyrics for some of the songs WEREN'T even in the songs. Here's a few examples: Here are lyrics for "Just Another Story" from the Aussie ROTSC booklet, you will notice some changes in the middle of the song, the beginning is normal:
JAS lyrics: Nobody make a move-This kid's got you covered-He was just seventeen-Trying to get on like his dead brother-Mama couldn't do a thing for him-Though she hurt inside-And daddy wants his son back-While he knows he's still alive-Stickup kid-Thinking your a glory boy-Fronting that stupid toy-But you don't get it is yourself you will destroy-(*Please note, this is where the alternate lyrics start, also the song on the CD ISN'T different, it sounds exactly the same like the normal version*)-Get to hell before your time-If you your face on the cover of "High Times"-Pushin-(*Now the lyrics are back to normal, then changes again*)Now it occured to me-As I awoke from deeper dreams-All this evolution-And still don't know what it means-And it gets so hard for me to change-When there's an easy way to earn-Why should I work my fingers to the bone-(*Here again, they change*)-Can you give more than get-Get down-With a conscious train of thought-Light years-Can pass by without me realising-I'm water in a stream-But ya got to keep it clean-Dirty dreams-Purity-How can-So many people think they're right when-Everybody's wrong (*end of lyrics*). I also noticed lyric changes in the booklet for Light Years, here's some of the alternate lyrics: People tell me I'm no good-Cos I'm expressin' all my sentiments-Now I got to channel all my vehemence-For the benefit of my self defense-And you can be a do gooder-But true sincerity ain't clarity-(*From this point, the lyrics go back to normal, then..*)-Substitutes-Can never take the place of peace of mind-Losing all sense of direction-When you're light years-Too far away to turn your back on substitution-There is no u-turn on a one way route-Goin' up when I learn to love the life I can bite the fruit-Now I got sunshine in my life-Light years-Never to return to Babylon-See money don't make a man-But if you really want you get there anyway you can (*end of lyrics*). Pretty weird stuff, I don't whether it was pathetic lyrics editing on part of Sony Australia OR some printing problems in the manufacture of this CD? Another note, the lyrics for "Scam" are not even listed AND "Journey To Arnhemland" is listed as "Instrunental", a clear mispelling. If you can clear the smoke on this topic, please reply to this post. Thanks for listening and peace!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Something wrong with this booklet?!!!??

Well, ROTSC is the longest of the Jamiroquai albums, I believe. Maybe the songs would have been too long if they were recorded with all the lyrics, BUT Jay liked the lyrics too much to do without them completely, so they were printed anyway....they're an extra little bonus for those fans who really scrutinize every publication. Sounds to me like Jay had something he wanted to say, but just didn't have enough time to say it.

As for the typos, that's just poor editting.

Cheers.

Brent,

The 'TROTSC' booklet thing is a long-thought of mystery, believe me. There seems to have been lots of different versions of the booklet printed, with many glaring errors. My copy (British Original Release) is very similar to the one you have mentioned; no lyrics for Scam, unheard additions and omissions for other songs. I think the only songs with the right lyrics printed are Manifest Destiny and The Kids! I'm guessing (cos of how quickly that album was turned over and brought out after EOPE) there were lots of changes to lyrics and design layouts and such that just weren't corrected in time for the release.

I have the euro version, and the lyrics are all wrong too. in "the kids" for example, they change the placing of the verses and the chorus

All this talk about ROTSC has made me long for more cosmic groove, with a hint of weed inuendo (that's the only way I can describe the title track). Hope we get more of this on album 6.

Speaking of the next release, any predicitions on what it'll be called? Will it bear the name of one of the songs? Or will it be, perhaps, a unique title (like Synkronized and A Funk Odyssey). And while I'm delving further into an unrelated topic, will Funk Odyssey be included, and in it's present form? The stuff we heard coming out of Japan last year sounded too much like Deeper Underground to me. And if the song IS on the new album, it's almost reminiscent of HOUSES OF THE HOLY by Led Zeppelin, which was not included on the album by the same name.

Sorry for the rant.

Hello all! I'm new here.

Anyways, to the topic at hand. I didn't realize that changing lyrics bothered people so much. But, in reality, not only Jamiroquai has done/does this.

There are lots of albums in my collections that are like that. Especially imports. I think maybe it's just an import thing.

......yeah.... Confused But what do I know..

Jamirofan2000, I have those "extra lyrics" in my album too. I just ignored them.. Lyric booklets are always wrong and misleading.

recently I had an opertunity to hear a live recording from 94' (in a gig in a place called Astoria). jamiroquai performed just another story there, but instead of the normal lyrics jay sang the alternate lyrics that were in the australian booklet

Ok, just re-read the post, because the first time, I just skimmed through it quickly, but now I noticed that I missed a bunch of things mentioned...

About Journey To Arnhemland : I actually never even noticed that it said "instrunental" until you mentioned it! I pulled out my album right after I read it and sure enough it said "instrunental". How ignorant am I!

A while back, when i first discovered Jamiroquai, and I was hooked (still am, not as much of a big thrill anymore) I had a strange dream that doesn't really make sense, and I forgot most of it anyway. For some reason I was at this place and Jay was dressed up in this big strange gray buffaloman suit that looked really cheap. He was singing some songs, I can't remember which ones, (because I think that it was muted), or maybe he was chatting with someone.. and he was there at the place which i now think was a talk show studio, but no one was there except a lady who was the interviewer (but never spoke a word) and a few camera men. Jay was standing in front of a small backround which was painted all carribean-like with orange and pink and everything. The backround was the cover of the new album and the album was called "jam on the beach" or something like that. He held up the album to the camera and it was the carribean-like image with a buffaloman under a palm tree. And just as jay was about to sing the brand new song, I woke up.
Perhaps it was just some stupid dream I had, or maybe it was a vision into the future....

So don't be surprised if the next album is called "Jam on the beach". Although I highly doubt that they'd call the album something so simple. As freddie hg mentioned before, it's always been something clever and unique, and "jam on the beach" is'nt exactly mind boggling. I give up.[/quote]
