Starchild - what it's about
i'm trying to get my head around the lyrics for 'starchild' - i'm almost there but not quite. if i'm on the right track, it's about politics & religion... anybody want to share their views? |

Hello,
I think every fan's interpretation of Starchild is pretty different given each of their beliefs and how they were raised . To me, "Starchild" is JK's questioning of who to believe in when it comes to religion, the highly paid and gold encrusted Evangelists (preachers) OR God or whatever deity himself, when he returns and saves us from ourselves. But I'm not a religious person, but that's pretty much the gist I got from the lyrics. Hope it helps you out Davina, thanks for listening and Peace !
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000 _________________

Yes it is! It's a commercial song for Marvel comics: "There's a Superman coming!" |

Well it certainly does sound very religious/spiritual in connotation. I belive the Starchild is the devil himself in the song. The lyrics talking about how people look to what the Starchild is offering but then the Starchild falls short. On that note as well, the Holy Bible calls Lucifer/Satan, "Son of the Morning Star." Or, Starchild can indicate from the way the song describes is a a god of a religion that is failing him or could be a false god too. Which in turn, (in my belief) is actually the devil anyway. And then the song goes on after saying that the Starchild is not delivering on his promise, that "there's a Superman coming." Indicating the birth of the Saviour, (Jesus in my faith). Who will save. And I believe that Jay uses the term "Superman" as well because the story of Superman has been analyzed in such a way that indicates that the story is a retelling of the story of Jesus Christ. Well that's my 2 cents. _________________ IT'S A PLANETARY....GOOD VIBE ZONE.....

I think that the song is about faith and not religion. It says that "When are you gonna come, you've got to save us from what we've begun", but it also says "I thought you came down to save us, but you just don't take us".
In fact, I think it's a song about true faith, and disillusion with religions.
The author is saying that believing is pure and nice, but that religions have twisted that noble idea...
Just my own 2 cents.
Anyway I love it, it's my favourite song from Dynamite. Hope it will be the 4th single.

wow scruffziller & Jam'namite... you really know how to dissect a song
i was only vaguely given the impression that it's about devoting your soul to an entitity or religion that gives empty promises.
that superman bit does make a bit more sense now... thanks 4 your thoughts!
btw mandy, thanks for the link - that's so whack!
VirtuallyInsane, i second that |

In alot of ways I was trying to say that too. But my own faith icons kept creeping back into the explanation. Because I don't think Jay was trying to talk about a specific faith at all (well maybe a little). But faiths in general. And whatever faith you have, you could gather the meaning from it regardless. _________________ IT'S A PLANETARY....GOOD VIBE ZONE.....

I'm venturing a guess here...
the first impression of song is that it brings me back to the old acid jazz tunes they did in the early '90s, where every song pretty much double referenced to a girl and marijuana.
So, when listenign to Starchild, I got the same impression that this is a reference to the same theme: cheeba cheeba is the savior, people long for the release that weed offer, the "blazing bright" light, that helps alleviate the pain in the world, helps you expand and open your minds to a point that makes you feel superior to the preachers on TV - especially when you watch them high.
At that point and state of consciousness, don't you feel sometimes as a powerful "starchild"?
just a thought that I wanted to share.
the song's really good |
