Choose 3
Hello Jamirotalkers,
If you had to choose only 3 songs from the entire Jamiroquai catalogue, to make a friend get to know the band... which ones will you choose??
The first one is (and it has been since I know them):
CANNED HEAT
My friends always react to that song.
I'd go for VIRTUAL INSANITY for the second.
And for the last one... mmm....MUSIC OF THE MIND, so they know how good instrumental songs they do.
Which 3 will you choose??

Hi,
Nice topic. I'd pick three live songs, because I still think that Jamiroquai is a live-band.
1. Revolution 1993 (Glastonbury 1993) - Jazz/Funk
2. Love Foolosophy (Verona 2002) - Disco/Dance
3. Just Another Story (Montreux 2003) - Rock/Funk
I think this will give a good insight of the variation of the band (it's always like: "They do the same every album!"). Now people can see that Jamiroquai can play different styles.
(If I had to choose songs with the goal to make people like Jamiroquai's music, I'd have picked other songs )
Jeroen. |

This is extremely tough! But if I were in your same position I would give my friends a sample of Jamiroquai's musical evolution
First, Space Cowboy (radio edit) because they need to feel the original vibes of the band, and this is the hit that really put them under the spotlight
Then, Alright, because it's a good example of the nu-disco music which predates the heavily house-influenced music of the following albums
Third, Planet Home, because, at least for me, its music encompasses both the new kind of electronic music that Jamiroquai plays -perhaps too much- and the themes that characterized old tunes (e.g. love of mother earth). |

No, they haven't performed Don't Stop The Feeling at Club Citta. Neither at Glastonbury 1995 I think. In fact, there's no recording of it, so how would you let your friends listen to it |

Don't know if it was played in Glastonbury 95, 'cos no recordings of it we know. Probably you're little confused with the bootleg Glastonbury & Tokyo, in which appear Don't Stop The Feeling but played in Ebisu Garden Hall 95.
My choice is:
-When you gonna learn (Live at Skeepsholmen Jazz Festival 93) It shock me!
-Space cowboy (Live at MTV Europe)
-Funktion (Live in any place)

Great choice, but they won't get an idea of Jamiroquai's music now.
Btw, Diego: do you know how difficult this topic is? If my friends would have had time, I'd let them listen to more songs of course |

Manifest Destiny--Social element
Planet Home--Electronic element
Cosmic Girl--Funk/disco element _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It really does. Otherwise, I have to be honest, I can see a situation where...there is a possibility that you become lost in the annals of acid jazz history." -- Jason Kay |

Haha I know is difficult!! Even harder to choose between more records!
By the way, 'Don't Stop The Feeling' is not a Jamiroquai song, it doesn't count
