R.I.P. U.S. Tour
This is a solemn moment for us Americans. Jamiroquai has probably now left our beloved country. We wish the Japanese and the Aussies well in the days to come. They will get thier money's worth.

But this is a last moment to reflect upen the last 3 weeks of American Jamirobliss. To the Americans out there, please take a moment to reflect and share your favorite memory or moment from the U.S. tour. My avatar would explain mine, but I will soon send some pics to Cosmicmouse to display for the 2nd NY show that I have not yet shown.

Both NY shows were mind-blowing. The Chicago show was very good, but not quite as good as NY. All 3 shows I will cherish. JK and the crew ripped it up and fulfilled my beyond-lofty expectations. I can only hope JK will fulfill his promise and be back in March.

So this is a mocking obituary, a tribute, whateva. But have fun with it y'all. Let's hear your highlights. Have a good weekend y'all.
~Pete

I will never forget the show in NY (my first!). I was like the 8th or 9th person back wearing my new dynamite shirt (I wished they had a buffalo man shirt, but this one is pretty cool). I got to meet Pete (Jammineapolis) and David from the Funkin site. It was so surreal and it is one of my all-time favorite memories. (Even though I didn't get to meet the man himself:( I will forever be envious of Pete, I was one night off!!!!) Farewell Jamiroquai!! Peace and Love!!

Actually I take my highlight back. My favorite memory would have to be seein' my two heros in life: JK, and the Crocodile Hunter be on the same stage and shake hands with each other on Jey Leno lol!

Well, it was just an amazing night in New York. My first time seeing a show, and man I can't wait till March. I was right up front, shouting out to Jay and close enough that he could respond. Unbelievable. Just incredible.

It was really awesome to see the band live, especially so close (5th row, floor). I was singing and dancing to every one of the songs. The best part was that there were others that were doing the same around me. That is the biggest memory I will take from this tour--the fact that Boston and North America has not forgotten about Jamiroquai. If they do decide to come back in the spring, I hope they come back to Boston. Australia and Japan are in for an awesome show. Smile

Dynamite in S.F.
I saw them in S.F. on saturday night and it was by far my favorite concert experience. My wife and I have been waiting for years to see them and were so excited to have the chance to catch them at the Fillmore(max. capacity 1100!).Such a treat,we were center stage, maybe 5 feet away from the rail, truly epic.I've seen alot of concerts, but they blew away my expectations, which were pretty high. The whole show was a highlite, from the opening notes of Canned Heat on.But if I was to pick out one part,it would have to be mid-show,when they started playing selections from A Funk Oddesey(which JK joked about low record sales in the US and how they were going to show us what we had missed!).I danced eye to eye with my lady singing the words to Little L and You Give Me Somethin to her.By far the most magical moment of a night filled with magic. On a side note, where are the spring U.S. tour rumors coming from? That would be divine.

Hey! I gotta admit, this is a great topic for reflection, Pete! So much so that it finally encouraged me to register! I love reading about everyone's experience in the U.S. mainly because I believe this tour (although short lived) was so crucial to all us fans here who have stuck behind them for so long, even when they were in Europe touring and promoting without us in mind. I think this will be the start to more U.S. tours to come!

I attended the first date of the American leg in Atlantic City and I'm still thinking about the impact it had on me 4 weeks later! My greatest memory of the night, by far, was being on the rail, front and center and making eye contact with jason continually throughout the show. I waited in line two hours before hand to make sure I could get the full experience, which was well worth it. I was so giddy prior to the show, as if I had never attended a live concert before. At times throughout their set Jay and I would exchange glances mid-song, which made me feel as if he was singing for just me, and that the entire band travelled overseas for me alone. It was truly a unique and special feeling.
I about died when they played Mr. Moon, definitely a rarity on their live sets I'm noticing for the US dates, and quite a shock to my elation! Space Cowboy was also an unreal song to hear performed live, I didn't think the song could sound any better than the '94 recording, but I was mistaken!
To anyone who was there that night, I'm sure you can attest to this-- there was a certain organic chemistry between the band and crowd. It was flattering to see all members of the band light up with excitement to play for all 900 of us! Especially considering their fame in Europe, I was worried that they would be disapointed with their lacking mainstream, but, subtle underground status here. But to my surprise they were all authentically excited to be there and I think a bit overwhelmed with the high energy from us despite our lacking numbers! It was truly a unique experience to see a band of that magnitude (and a band who I've loved for 8 years) play to such an intimate crowd, and I hope certainly its not the last live experience I will have of them!
It was great meeting and dancing with all of you that I met in NJ, and I can't wait to see Jamiroquai back here next spring I hope! I plan on going to more East Coast dates, and meeting more people! -Lauren

Yes, Pete..it was lovely...I'm on my Jamiroquai Detox vibe right now. Such a wonderful time was had by all....hightlights?...there were so many. I'd have to say although I was very excited to meet Jay, my happy points were talking with the promotion company about the way Jamiroquai US promo is handled (an opportunity for me to get my opinions across) and talking with Paul and Rob at the afterparty. I think there are so many highlights from those 2 weeks that I'll hold close to me. anyway enough mushy stuff, I know it's a bit late, but I promised some of you I'd post the New York review once it was done. It was posted up last week, but I forgot to put it here:

http://www.giantstep.net/forums/652/read/2322

Jamiroquai @ Nokia Theater, NYC –October 24th & 25th
Transformed for two nights into an atmosphere for soul education, the brand new plush Nokia Theater in Times Square hosted the boys from across the pond, Jamiroquai. Playing to a sold out crowd both nights, fans and the band were equally nervous; after all, Jamiroquai hadn’t played in New York since the eve of their 5th album, ‘A Funk Odyssey’ on September 10, 2001. Clearly, the event and album release were overshadowed by the tragic events of the next day. Four years, one month and two weeks to that day, New York once again welcomed them.

As the rain fell outside, herds of fans (some that were lined up since the early afternoon) piled in the converted theater-turned-concert-venue. The anticipation mounted, adrenaline rose, and the journey began. Matt, Rob, Sola, Derrick, Paul and the three backup singers strolled on stage and began playing the opening chords to “Canned Heat,” although not a current hit of the band, it is one of the most recognizable (thank “Napoleon Dynamite”). Jay jumped out decked in his Native American inspired headdress, quickly showing off his signature freestyle dancing. On a reminiscent trail, the next two tracks were fan favorites “Space Cowboy” and “Cosmic Girl.” The audience didn’t miss a beat, and new bassist Paul represented. As Jay joked about being young and good looking when “Revolution 1993” came out, the band grooved into the political anthem, which was the only song played from the first album throughout the night.

The audience clapped along to pop/dance hit, “Little L” and as Jay moved his hips to the summer single, “Seven Days In Sunny June,” Matt showed off his distinct talent on the keys. This was the first, but not last track from the new album, as we also heard “Dynamite,” “Love Blind,” “(Don’t) Give Hate A Chance,” and “Time Won’t Wait,” which was blended with a jam rendition of “Main Vein.” Some perceive Jamiroquai as a one-man show, but during “Use the Force,” that theory was proven wrong. A song based on African and Latin rhythms, Sola and Derrick truly brought out the essence with their percussion skills back and forth. Jay giggled recalling his drug daze in NYC as he began “High Times,” which included a few adlibs at the end and a remix courtesy of loyal fans in the front row. The audience was also treated to “Black Capricorn Day” and “Love Foolosophy.”

Towards the end, sweating and joking that he isn’t in shape as he used to be, Jay took a little break, while the band played a quiet and loooong introduction to “Alright.” The perfect unison between the audience and band vocals made this song a fitting unofficial end to the night. As the crowd cheered, stomped and clapped for an encore, the boys strutted back out, and a sound came across the speakers, vibrating the floor underneath turning into Godzilla movie track, “Deeper Underground.”

As Jay thanked the crowd, he exposed their plans to return in March 2006, to which the crowd screamed with excitement. Although it would have been nice to hear some earlier tracks from Jamiroquai, concertgoers were overly satisfied and positively overwhelmed with what they got. Souls were opened, feet were dancing, energy was powerful and the vibe was perfectly orchestrated. Although the charts don’t reflect the respect Jamiroquai has here in America, the fans and sold out shows do – and that’s alright now.

well said! I'm just curious how did you get the opportunity to speak with jay, and also the promo people? What kinda of opinions did you express to them about American promotion, and what did they have to say for themselves?

Jay: I accidently bumped into him when they were going into the venue for soundcheck in New York. So, I spoke with him then and then I was blessed enough to go backstage after the Tuesday New York gig and speak with him again. Also, the whole band.

The promo company: Well, I attended a Jamiroquai release party here in my hometown a few months ago and it was horrible. The people throwing it were nice, but it was very poorly promoted and put on (I live down the street from the club and didn't even know about it. I also write for the local paper and didn't know about it - until the day it happened). So, I talked to those people and found out who hired them (Jami's promotion company) and then next day wrote a blurb on the website about how disappointed I was at that party. Well, the company contacted me and asked me to call them about my opinion and I did. They were really cool in asking me what I thought and then asked if I'd like to help write about their clientele, which included Jamiroquai (I'm a journalist on the side). So of course I jumped at the opportunity, and was blessed to write the review of the CD and the concert review. All this time, I'm posting on the promotion board about the band and making sure fans over there know the details of things even when the website doesn't post it up. This all started the correspondence between the promo company and I. Then backstage, the president of the promo company picked me out (don't ask me how) and we spoke about the band. I told him that while I understand that Jamiroquai won't gel on MTV (which I'm happy about), there is no reason why they can't be played on MTV2. I also expressed doing more things for fans, meet and greets and why when they played 2 nights in New York, they weren't on one New York talk show..blah, blah, blah. They said a lot of things back to me, which I won't repeat, but they were positive, and then I told them I'd like to help more with promotions when Jami come back, if they come back, and they said 'okay'. I'm a realist, so I don't try to get Jamiroquai on the same charts as Usher or Ashlee Simpson, but with the amount of independent and college outlets for 'quality' music, there is no damn reason they shouldn't be in rotation at some of these stations, and even on channels like MTV2, VHI Soul, etc. But see, the promotion company is in charge of promotions really....not publicity, so I still have to get to the people that book the interviews and such. One step at a time...

So, that is the story morning glory!! That is why I am always asking for ideas and other things because I want to communicate them to people that can make a difference. At the end of the day, things are up to the Sony monster, but I am very opinionated and determined to get something accomplished....

15% is my job, 85% is the passion I have for this music and for this band.

Cool JGRIZZ Cool AFO hat

buffaloman_B 6cool 6yeah 5thumbsup 6wow

ok My wife and I went to the Las Vegas show. It was really amazing, we waited 2 hours to get a good spot in front of the stage. and yes, making eye contact with Jay is pretty cool. Being close to the stage, in my opinion, is the only way to go.

There was way to much cigarette smoke there and some people were just making it too obvious that they were "smokers" so that just ruined my night, but it is Nevada, not Cali, so that was to be expected. Embarassed

The setlist was pretty average as he did the usual stuff, without any real change. SDISJ, Dynamite, Time Won't Wait, from the new album.

He really did a lot of great dance moves, which I felt was the highlight of the show. The music is great, but if your any type of Jamiro fan follower of the live stuff, (which I try to have everything available), you would know that they didn't play anything out of the ordinary.

I would have liked to hear Starchild, Give Hate, FJLIS, or Mr.Moon. but still an awesome show, as it was small and intimate.

--------------------------------------------

I went to the Jay Leno show by myself and got a really good seat in front of the stage, So again I made eye contact with Jay which was really cool.

--------------------------------------------

I took my 8 year old son (who knows the lyrics to Talulah by heart) to the Wiltern, but we were unsuccessful in getting any tickets, but I did get to meet Matt Johnson, so it was kind of meant to be, because if I was standing in line, that would not have happened.

-------------------------------------------

Then I took my wife to see the Jimmy Kimmel Show, which was so sweet!
They performed so well, and it was the only outdoor performance I know of here in the states on this tour. It was also special because, there were only like, 100 people there. We were about 5 or 6 rows back, because we
had to go outside after the taping of the show, and there were already people out there.

Then just before the show I got to meet Jay inside at the bottom of the stairs, he didn't say much, but I'm sure he had other things on his mind.

I still can't believe that he was there, and I got to meet him one on one, like that, I was so unprepared. I wanted to show him my Jamirotalk shirt that I made, but the Jimmy Kimmel show said not to wear any band logo shirts or they wern't going to let you in.

---------------------------------------

So anyway, my most memorable moment was the entire week's worth of straight up Jamiroquai all over the place. I would say it was meeting Jay, but he didn't really say much, so it I just have this memory of meeting Jay that I still can't really believe. Yunno, there is so much I wanted to ask him, and tell him. whatever, every thing has a purpose, and a reason for why things happen. I feel lucky and alittle bit overwhelmed by everything but, yunno, I'm just glad I didn't miss another whole tour.
(I missed the supersonic white Synkronized tour because I was living in rural humboldt County at the time) and couldn't afford to go down to San Fran to see them. 6sigh

sunny if they do come around in March, though, look out, 'cause I'm going to get tickets to every show I can.

party people

Standing five feet from these guys, in the second row, was absolutely incredible. Seeing Sola turn around every 30 seconds to get a new percussion toy...Jay spinning on his knees during Use the Force...getting a personal thumbs up from Matt after Dynamite...watching Derrick share a laugh with Paul during a song...feeling the floor shake and turning into a headbanger for Deeper Underground...dancing with a truckload of people to my favorite band for the last 8 years. Really amazing. Kudos to everyone who met the band, I'm so jealous Shocked but I'm genuinely happy for ya.

I had the ultimate pleasure of seeing them twice in San Francisco. First night 4 people from the stage, second night front row. It was the best weekend of my life. My man and I spent the weekend in the city, stayed at a great hotel, had an adventurous time on public transports and saw Jamiroquai 2 nights in a row. Magic. Thats all I can say. I got to hear all of my old favorite songs (Alright, You Give Me Something, Space Cowboy) and new faves (FJLIS, Seven Days, dynamite, Starchild!) and make eye contact! And meeting Jay and the band topped it off to the point where I could explode with happiness and inspiration. This will be with all of us for a long time. We are a special group, us american fans. It was great to be surrounded by that at the shows.

And I love this quote Jay said probably in regards to the US...
"We know how to fuckin party. Fuck everyone else. We know how to fuckin party."
