Osaka show!!!!!
I just got home after the rockin' show at Motherhall in Osaka, Japan! It was a great show and the crowd was really pumped up to see the band in such a small place (Motherhall holds only 2000 people, so everyone could see the band up close).
The setlist was exactly the same as the Las Vegas setlist. It was 1 hour and 55 minutes in total.
Canned Heat
Space Cowboy
Cosmic Girl
Revolution 1993
Little L
Seven Days In Sunny June
High Times
Dynamite
You Give Me Something
Use the Force
Black Capricorn Day
Love Foolosophy + Main Vein Interlude
Time Won't Wait
Alright
Deeper Underground
The crowd was really excited and pushing a lot during Canned Heat and lots of people fell down in front of the stage, but people got tired quickly and it became more relaxed after that first song. The band was really tight and seemed to be playing very effortlessly, and I could tell that they were improvising some parts. They would extend some parts and keep going until Jay Kay gave some signal etc.
Jay Kay also walked around the stage and talked into the band members ears and they'd start laughing. I don't know what they were talking about but it happened many times. And Jay Kay talked a lot with one guy in the audience. I don't know what was happening, but it seemed like the guy was gay and was interested in Matt! Jay Kay would talk to the guy and then talk to Matt, and Matt would look embarrassed. Is Matt gay? I don't know.
The songs arrangements were very nicely done, with lots of extended parts. My favorite was Use the Force, because the keyboards sounded so great and were so tight with Sola's percussion.
The sound mix was not perfect, and during the loudest parts of the songs the sound became a bit unclear and at those times it was a bit hard to hear Jay Kay's voice clearly. But most of the time it was good.
One strange thing that happened is that I think Rob forgot to change his guitar or something, because at the beginning of Love Foolosophy he started playing, but then stopped and changed the guitar during the song...so there was no guitar for maybe 15 or 20 seconds.
All in all it was a great show!! And after the show when most people had left, I went back down near the stage to ask for a copy of the setlist and Rob was standing there, so I got to meet him. He didn't seem like a "rock star" at all, just a nice guy. I told him "Good work, man! You were great!" and he shook my hand, and asked me my name and where I'm from, then greeted my girlfriend too. I wasn't nervous, and I didn't even think about taking a photo or getting his autograph, because he just seemed like a regular nice guy! That was a nice bonus to finish off the evening. Thanks for your report! I love the city Osaka, i was there a few years ago. One day I would like to see Jamiroquai there too. Sounds like a great gig with a smaller crowd. I met Rob aswell and he really is a nice guy to talk to. Very down to earth. _________________ Now we did it once, can we do it again?

NOOOO Matt is not gay, I personally saw him give his girlfriend a kiss right in front of the Wiltern in LA, when I met him.
Great review though! |

Thanks, Osaka's a great place. I'm not originally from here, but it's a great place to live.
Yeah, Rob just seems really nice and doesn't have a rock star attitude (like Jay Kay probably does). I was talking to him, and my (Japanese) girlfriend didn't notice it was him. She thought he was another teacher from the English school where I work, because he seemed so normal. Then when I told her it was Rob she freaked out . _________________ *OSAKA IS IN THE HOUSE!* |
