my name Quentin and i just turned 23. i'm currently preparing to start studying Video Game Design come the new year and am ecstatic about it.
i've been a fan since '95 when i first saw the Space Cowboy video. i was in middle school in those days, and knew nothing about the band and couldn't remember their name so i would refer to them as "that light-skinned cat from BET".
naturally when VI came around i was all eyes and ears and fell into the band in the heaviest way. i met JamiroFan2000 online some time in 98 or 99 i believe back when he had a J*Quai fan on Yahoo. i actually met my current girlfriend because of that club so i owe the 2 and a half years of happiness she's given me to him. it was back in those days that i took up the online alias Stickup-Kid and i would use my primitive photo-editing software to create J*Quai work. looking back at it, some of it has held up while some others haven't so well.
back to me and the band now. in 10th grade i switched to wearing only Adidas shoes because Jay had the coolest looking shoes ever. it was hard to find shoes just like his in those days, but i managed to keep my Adidas collection full of Originals. the Adidas thing stuck but i don't mimic Jay like i used to, i've developed my own style which is definitely influenced by the vibe of J*Quai. i remember everyday after school, i would practice my "dance moves" in the living room with Alright and High Time blasting through our stereo while my parents were at work. i used to wake up early in the morning before school to try to download live tracks from Napster because the people that had them all lived overseas and were only on during certain times. so i'd queue a bunch of tracks up before going to school and i'd let them download until i got home from school, then i'd have to disconnect the connection (back during the days of dial-up). i even managed to turn a few of my friends on to them, but it was mostly because that's all i'd pretty much listen to.
i was a pretty loyal fan until AFO or so, then i kind of lost interest in the band. almost like i'd burned myself out on them and i didn't even listen to the older tracks. it was like this until some time last year when i ran across some info about a new album and my interest was piqued. prior to Dynamite's release i started listening again and remembered why i loved the band so much and then when this latest gem dropped it's either been in my CD player or close to it at all times. my girlfriend and i don't live in the same area, but i can't wait to listen to this album with her, Jamiroquai takes us to an amazing place and she's coming down here later this month and i'm too excited about our listening session, it'll be boss for sure. |
