Talked to a Sony USA Rep..
buffaloman_R Hello everyone, :bm_r:

I had a cool experience yesterday at my favorite record store that I thought I would share with my fellow JamiroTalkers Smile! I was walking into my local record store, when I met a Sony Music Representative dropping off promotion materials for different acts on their labels. I introduced myself and pretty much drummed a conversation about Jamiroquai, and asked him what he's heard about them. He said that he hasn't heard much from Jamiroquai lately, since most of current Sony Music promotion is centered on U.S. Rock bands. He did however did pass on two interesting tidbits about Jam: 1. Sony at one point considered on dropping Jamiroquai from the label 2. JK really wants Jamiroquai to make it in the States again...I was all Smile when I heard this bit from him! Well, the latter of the conversation mostly covered other artists on the label, and I asked him as a favor to keep tabs on Jam when he can. The good thing is he told me he would be frequently checking in at my record store every two weeks, so I can chat with him then when he rolls back around to the store! He was a nice and well versed musicwise Sony fellow, and I can't wait to chat with him again soon! Thanks for listening and if I hear anything from him Jamiroquaiwise in the coming weeks, I will pass it on here JamiroTalk.net OR on my site. Peace congrats to Freddie HG for becoming a Moderator..cheers mate Wink!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

That's incredible news! I'm shocked that Sony would even think about dropping Jamiroquai altogether. They may not have done much in the States in a while, but they're huge in the rest of the world (kind of makes you wonder what the US is thinking, huh?) However, I'm most encouraged that JK wants to make it here again, we may see some music videos on our TVs by the time album six comes out!

On the bright side, if Sony were to drop the band, Jay might actually be happy about that and find a label that would suit him better, and be more interested in promoting them. I know Jay was heard on more than one occassion saying he was displeased with Sony, and regretted signing an eight-album contract with them.

A Greyhound on the track
Ok, I'm going to try not to sound as bitter as I feel, and if I don't y'all bear with me...

Sony, and most major label distributors in the states are like friggin' greyhounds on a race track, chasing a funky smelling bunny that they'll never catch. When they finally lose they go out of business and some other company takes the lead. They are too busy running with their eyes covered or in tunnel-vision to be able to see the musical talents that lie overseas. And guess what? All the fans are too busy watching TRL.. uh, I mean the dog race and everyone else running behind them, throwing their money on the winner. International music needs more advertising and distribution in the states. Michael Jackson was such a flop big in America that Sony couldn't promote his Invincible album?? Insanity.... he might as well change his citizenship to European now. That's how they are treating him anyway!

If I were JK would be skeptical about taking a big step and coming here to perform at some tiny ass club. JK should consider colaborating efforts with some top US R&B producers like Pharell or The Roots and get his music on BET. I'm sure he will appeal to the African-American community just fine. Either way, this place forces you to deviate your sound untill it goes "pop".

Where are: The Brand New Heavies, N'dea Davenport, Craig David... oh wait.. he was here but we missed him because everyone was at the dog tracks!! (Yeah, I'm a little upset...)

Done venting
Ok, now that I've got that out..
Good to hear that you got a chance to speak to someone at Sony, Jamirofan. It would probably be a good idea that Sony drops JK, or vice versa. Just like Ziggy marley broke the chains on Elektra records and released an album entitled "Free like we want to be" Hmm...
Thanx a million for keeping us posted!
