DON'T SAY THAT!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad Very Happy

Why? We have a great team, and the bad experience from 2002, so I don't think it will happen again.

Our coach is an idiot, (I'd prefer Bielsa 10000 times! Crying or Very sad ) but the players have a good level Very Happy

I know what you mean. I think it's time to see Nederland and Spain upthere, but my point of view is that Nederland problem is exactly the same than spanish problem. Both have great players but they don't win as usually as they should and they don't work as a team Sad . However, my intuation told me that they will be nice sourprises Exclamation Wink

I think that Italy will win. Squaddra Azurra 's got powerful forwards : Luca Toni and Alberto Gilardino, and quit good players as Buffon, Nesta, Pirlo, Zambrotta.
So I bet ITALIA!

It's gonna be tough for us this time, because the group Argentina is in is very difficult and we were better prepaired for the previous World Cup.
The team is not playing at its best now, but it is a great team anyway and it should never be underestimated...
I really hope they do well this time, or at least win the first round, we argentinians could use a little extra happiness, or something to make us stop complaining about everything Wink
Now we just have to wait... I hope we're lucky this time!

Jammineapolis, who is Greg Owen? From the way you mention his name I get the impression he's someone you think we'll have heard of but I'm buggered if I've seen him play... and Freddy Adu looks shit-hot in MLS, but frankly at times I think I would as well, and I'm really not very good at football. He's also far too young to have a nation's hopes resting on his shoulders, if he comes to one of the European leagues in the next few years it'll be very interesting to see how he develops though.

Now, having just stated that Freddy Adu (17 now?) is far too young to have have a national side relying solely on him, I'll defeat part of my own argument by pointing out that my own team, England (who for some reason have gone completely unmentioned in this thread so far) don't stand a chance of doing anything good without Wayne Rooney, who finally seems to have channelled his temper a bit. If he stays fit, there's just a possibility (nothing more than a slim one, though) that we could go all the way, but without him we'll be around about the quarter-finals again (assuming we manage to top our group and thus avoid Brazil in the second round). I'd be over the moon with a semi-final place, especially since if we do get that far we'll be meeting Brazil at that stage, and I can't see any way they're not going to win the thing (if anyone does beat them, it'll be us or Argentina).

My predictions: Spain to disappoint AGAIN (I do wish people would stop picking them to 'surprise' in the next tournament, because they never do), Argentina and Holland to go a long way, Germany too, Brazil to win it, and England to do respectfully in spite of - but most certainly not BECAUSE of - our coach (for what it's worth Gonza, I'd love Bielsa for England...).

Rooney, Messi and somebody African (most certainly not Didier bloody Drogba) to enter the wider world consciousness in as far as they haven't already, Ronaldinho to make us all piss ourselves laughing every time he touches the ball (brilliant again for Barca this evening), and useless show-pony Robinho to thoroughly embarrass himself (I hope) despite his team winning the thing.

And just for good measure, if he's back to full fitness after his current injury, Owen could be a good bet for the Golden Boot.

Sam

Argentina has great players, but we got the hardest group once again... plus the Coach of our team..... He´s a good coach but I dont think his football sttyle... the one he has give to our team is the best for the world cup..... Anyway I always say the world cup is something totally apart... theres a plus that each player has for it.... So hopefully we will do well.... At least a bit better than the previus world cup

Sam,
Maybe I got his name wrong, and someone else can help us out, but isn't Owen the young star who made his debut for England in the last World Cup at age 18? I don't think he's more than 22 now.

As for Freddie Adu, he could make a splash in this World Cup, but it will most liekly be in the next one. Im just saying he'll be a starter for the U.S. The U.S. has Brian McBride, Landon Donovan, DeMarcus Beasley, Clint Mathis, and maybe their most solid consistent player overall: Claudio Reyna.

You're right, the MLS is a 2nd rate league for Euro rejects and U.S. players that go unnoticed around the world. But they all play super hungry for that reason. They know they're playing for a better league and better $$$ in Europe. Their hunger and desire seems to make up for a lack of talent.

I will say this though: without Brad Freidel stopping everything in front of him in the last World Cup, they U.S. would not have gone as far as they did. Freidel has decided not to be on the team this time, so the burden now falls on the shoulders of Casey Keller.
