TOPIC of the WEEK (VI): What are you proud of?
Hello Jamirotalkers,
Is there something you did in your life, or something happened to you, where you feel proud of it??

I'm very responsible and if I have to study until 3 am, I do it, everything I started, I finished it (thanks to my will) and I'm proud of all that.
I'm proud of my family, friends, and my boyfriend .
And I'm really, REALLY proud of my dad. He was very, very poor as a child. He worked at a factory where he didn't earned much money. He also smoked and drank a lot. But thanks to my mum he quitted alcohol, and when I had the surgery he promissed God that if the doctors saved my life he would stop smoking, and so he did and at the age of 50 was able to finished university and become a lawyer (which he wasn't able to do when he finished school, because his parenst didn't have enough money). _________________

I'm proud of my father and my boyfriend, I'm glad of being in their lifes. They are the bests for me. I admire them so much.
I'm proud of my courage. There aren't many things to be proud of in my life... unluckily. But I wouldn't change it. _________________

funkilo, that's a dope (good) story about your father. very admirable and you should be proud.
pride is a very tricky specimen. it's both negative and postive and to find a balance is very humbling. that balance is caused by humiliation many times...but let me step off my preaching ladder and answer the question...
i am proud to be a woman of color in america still breathing at age 28, because many of us (black women) don't see this age. many humans in general don't. i feel blessed because of this.
i am proud of my involvement in the hip-hop CULTURE and for it to be respected and recognized as a culture.
i would say i'm proud of my lifetime commitment to the AIDS community..but that's not something that feels right fitting in the 'pride' category. i love the interaction and activism, but pride wouldn't be the word to describe it. more like passion or some other word that my vocabulary can't locate right now. haha!
oh, there goes that preaching again. night |

Oh there are beautiful stories here!
I'm proud of a lot of things, but there something in particular that everytime I think about it, it makes me feel good:
In high school, every year we had to vote who we thought it was the best partner / friend in the class.
I won the first 2 years, and I got the 2nd spot the last year (the first spot was for the girl I voted, and that is MY personal best friend). In 2001 I even got a medal that says 'To The Best Friend'.
May sound silly, but I'm very proud of being such a good friend, and that my friends voted me all those years
I'm also proud of finishing high school with an average of 9.27 / 10. Although things got complicated on college, I passed the most difficult subject, maths, that took me one and a half years to enter to my career. Let's see what happens this year.
And of course, I'm proud of the family I got.

Way to go guys.
I did very poorly in highschool. I was a very promising athlete and was dropped from several track teams because of grades. I was too busy locking myself in a room, getting into my music, hating the world, full of teenage angst, partying, very naive and silly.
I straightened up a little my senior year and won a full ride scholarship for track (I was the fastest in the state for a minute, but smoking cigerettes, and other stuff was more important I thougt). I turned it down with no desire to do anything, except party.
10 years later, I am getting ready to graduate from college and my grades are better than they ever were in highschool. I'm proud that even though I'm a late bloomer, and a bit immature for my age, I have become responsible and sensible enough to move forward instead of backwards.
I owe it all of course to my two beautiful daughters, who I am VERY proud of, and I'm proud to of been blessed with them.
(They insist on dressing themselves, and I let them )

awwwwwww, that's cute!
I'm proud of quitting my job after spending 1.5 years in a company that was absolutely horrible and that i'm working on fulfilling one of my dreams.
I'm proud of my thesis project from university (even though I can't look at it anymore) and that I actually finished university. I thought more than a couple of times to drop out. _________________ Dear Auntie Em. Hate you, hate Kansas, took the dog. Dorothy. x |

sandisaster - what a cute picture. i'm diggin the ladies boots!
on another note, i just want to give you love for completing school while being a mother to not one, but 2 children. that is very admirable and impressive and says a lot about your strength and character...do your thing girl and congratulations
bear - much love to you also for leaving that job and pursuing what you want to do. it's so hard to do when all we are taught to go to school and get a good job instead of being taught to follow your soul.
very inspirational this thread is..

Wow, learning another language is very hard, especially when you are no longer a child. I salute you.
I'm often ashamed that I do not know more languages. I can speak, read and write German, but I learned it as a child.
There are so many that are not from America, or the UK, that learn English. They make it seem so easy to pick up a new language!
For me it is hard. I want to learn French and Spanish.
I took Spanish in school and got an F.
I thought about buying some of those CD's that teach.
I want to see your art.
I'm proud of you too Comic Bear. I hope I have enough courage one day to do what I want to do. JAM ON! _________________
