KEYBOARD PLAYING TRICKS
I'm a keyboard player. I WAS a good keyboard player, now I'm too busy between job and daughters... Sad

What I was looking for? Some...tricks, some ideas, some ways to try to play like my heroes (Toby and Matt, of course). I'ven't too much time to study, I don't want to buy specialized books: if some more talented friend than me could share his...experience, his tricks to sound more ...jazzy, that will be very very appreciated!

I play some things on my keyboard but basic stuff lets say... but what i can advice you is to learn songs from albums either from jam or any other band that you would like.... actually let em advice you to listemn to ED MOTTA which has very good piano/rhoddes lines....

That how i did to play bass I got BLood Sugar Sex Magic From the red hot chilly peppers and started to learn track per track untill I knew the album upside down and they I would just play the hole albums and jam over it...

Hope i can help you a bit! Wink

...learn songs...mhhh, that's a good advice, for sure...but....If I listen to "Mr Moon" chords...they are very difficult...so I'd spend a lot to time trying to "catch" them.
If someone could write me "ehi man, these are the Mr Moon chords: Em, G4, Abm: read and learn them!", this could be a faster way in order to assimilate the secrets of that beautiful playing....maybe I'm looking only for a Songbook for free.... Laughing

or maybe someone more expert than me could suggest me "I use this typical chord progression, or put a Em before an Emajor, or make it in this way, or in that way"...and so on....

The best advice there is... experiment, break the rules... if you play the Rhodes make sure you make use of the different sounds you can get by playing notes soft/hard... the mechanic velocity sensitiveness of the Rhodes is amazing.

Jazz = break the rules... if it sounds cool it's all good... use 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th chords. When soloing you want to do "voicing". Regular or irregular patterns and intervals from scales and arpeggios.

I rely on feeling and my ears... but if you want to make it easier you want to learn the circle of fifths by heart. Just Google "circle of fifths" and you'll find all you need to master an easy way to learn the key relationships.

You should also try to find the sheet music with chords for The Return Of The Space Cowboy... I bought mine ages ago in a shop in London. But nowadays you see them at very affordable prices on eBay.

I speak from a guitarists point of view here although I muck about with keyboards too. Today I don't consider myself being a guitarist or a keyboardist... I just muck about with just about anything that makes a sound... I'm a song writer/producer wannabe I guess. Laughing
