Question for you guys.
Hey CosmicMouse and CosmicBear, I was wondering why the restrictions are so tough on the avatar size? I've been to other sites that use the same program for your forum without such touch guidelines for the avatar size. Just a question, is there anyways you can loosen up the restrictions or is it the program itself that does the restricting?
Thanx in advance _________________ Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us.

Avatar size
Hi sneef!
The avatar size is restricted to 80 x 80 pixel, because we considered this size to be enough to provide a little bit of color and to enable the reader to identify the poster at one glance.
Of course we could let the system accept any other size, but I doubt that users not having broadband would be grateful downloading bigger avatars which of course would result in bigger filesizes and longer latency times.
Hope this is acceptable!?

Ola, EvoV!
Hi Jamirotalkers!
Create your avatar picture as JPEG! Even in high quality it will not exceed 8KB.
I assume that you, EvoV, have planned to use animated GIFs (which naturally need some more Kbs). If this is the case, please accept that the goal of the avatars is to provide recognition of the poster (writer) at one glance and this point is already met by using JPEG. Animated GIFs on the opposite can distract the reader and destroy the usability of the forum when used excessively. I have seen many discussion boards that where launched successfully, but after a while reading the message was a pain in the ass, because the users have started an “arms race” and everything was moving, jumping, flashing.
This applies not to animated avatars only, but as well to the FLASH-Tag you have requested in another thread. It's the same topic but even more critical.
I hope that the goals of jamirotalk.net is acceptable to everyone:
• Provide a forum to discuss our favorite band JAMIROQUAI
• Keep up legibility and usability
• Keep up a friendly tone
By the way, talking about legibility and usability I would like to point out here, that I like all the signature-banners that came up during the past weeks! They are all nice and good art work. They are proofs of solidarity with Jamiroquai and the artists ability to express themselves not only in words but in colours as well.
BUT, I like each banner as single, individual work, enjoyed ONCE. Being forced to watch them over and over again, sometimes ten times in one thread, gives me a bad feeling. I feel distracted exactly as I have explained above. The readers' eyes must JUMP over these hurdles and jumping is tiring.
I have promised Meike (CosmicMouse) some time ago, to create a gallery for jamirotalk.net where we all can upload our artworks. The reason why I have not objected loudly when the banners came up is, that due to work overload I was not able to give you this gallery yet. But it will come for sure. And after that we will talk again about the banners, okay!? ... :)
I hope that you don't see me as a spoilsport ... - my aim is just to keep this a cosy place for all of us and to draw your attention to some points you might not have seen yet. Comments are welcome.

OK.
For me is not tiring to see different fanmade artworks (in fact, I enjoy them), but I want to respect the other users, so I choose one of my banners (really a difficult choice!!!!!!!) to put.
And the winner is.... Jay's Selection Compilation Banner!!!! Hahaha

Very well put Funkmaster!
Hello, :bm_r:
Very well put, Funkmaster ! Good to see you, you don't post that much, from what I've seen, but you know me, I'm practically online every day..hehe. I can't wait for the new Upload section of JamiroTalk.net, I know their end up being separate "EvoV & Diego" wings of it just to hold all of their banners and graphic masterpieces . Maybe even Ol' me will submit of my old Jamiroquai fanart to it ! Thanks for listening and good to finally hear from you Funkmaster, keep up the great work here JamiroTalk.net Miran ! Peace!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000 _________________
