The Johnny Cash Appreciation Topic....

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

Smile Through my early years of loving country music, I really revolved tightly around the early to late 50s rockabilly/gospel era of Sun Records with Rock legends like Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Waylon Jennings, Carl Perkins and many others Smile. Being from the South, I guess it was kind of expected of me to respect these artists, but one always fell from my view, and it was of course Johnny Cash. The amazing autobiographical movie came out in 2005 called "Walk The Line" starring Joaquin Phoenix doing a uncanny protrail of the rebel and ultimately the king of country music. I never really appreciated, or really realized the power of his songs until I saw this movie for the first time last night on DVD, how angry, blazen and dark his lyrical prowess was. I almost forgot in some parts of the movie that Joaquin was himself and nearly believed I was watching remastered archival of the Man in Black at his best, be in the forceful verbal swerves of "Folsom Prison Blues", the heartache of "Cry, Cry, Cry", the envious love jorn of "Ring Of Fire". So I thought it would only be befitting of this musical giant to give him his own appreciation topic here on JamiroTalk, if you haven't heard Johnny Cash, then you really haven't heard MUSIC till you listen to his heartache on the mountain of music he created over his 50+ years of early existance. If your curious, please check out the following choice selections from his musical catalogue and you will understand why I'm so passionate about him:

* JOHNNY CASH CHOICE ALBUM SELECTIONS *

Johnny Cash - Live At Folsom Prison
OVERVIEW (From Amazon.co.uk):
Johnny Cash had been breaking new ground for a decade when At Folsom Prison suddenly made the world at large take notice. The interaction of a volatile prison population starved for entertainment and a desperately on-form Johnny Cash was electrifying. His sombre machismo finally found a home. The songs, which included every prison song Cash knew ("I Got Stripes", "The Wall", "25 Minutes to Go", "Cocaine Blues", plus his own "Folsom Prison Blues") were tailored to galvanise the crowd. This set is all about atmosphere. Live at the Grand Ole Opry this is not. The 1999 version drops the San Quentin portion of the original CD reissue, instead adding three cuts to complete the full and uncensored Folsom show. --Colin Escott

Ring Of Fire - The Legend Of Johnny Cash
OVERVIEW (From Amazon.co.uk):
The first ever definitive best of Johnny Cash, covering his whole career over five decades. From modest country beginnings in the mid-'50s to his death in 2003, the Man In Black became a legend. One of those rare artists that transcended his chosen musical genre to be an icon for generations of musicians.

This album collects tracks from his early Sun Records days through to his defining era at Columbia Records to his last recordings, the famed and critically acclaimed American Recordings.
The packaging features comprehensive sleeve notes and biography from US music writer Rich Kienzle and exclusive photographs from throughout Cash's career.

'The Legend Of Johnny Cash' is a career-spanning collectionof tracks by one of the greatest songwriters of all time. With his distinctive voice and black attire, Cash cast a tallshadow over popular music for over forty years, making someof the finest records of all time in the process, many of which feature on this compilation. Includes the tracks 'Ring Of Fire', 'I Walk The Line' and 'Hurt'.

There you go, hope you find the same amount lifely solice as much as I have when going back and listen to his music. Thanks for listening and rest in peace Man in Black, you are truly a icon.....

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Folsom Prison was the pinnacle of country greatness. I can't deny that. Good topic. Wink
