MY DUBAI CONCERT EXPERIENCE
Hello Everyone
I'm still in a daze from Thursday night. I can't believe I attended the concert and I can't beleive how close I was. I was lucky to get a FRONT ROW VIP ticket which was almost 7 to 8 feet away from the stage. I was there from 7pm and we waited till about 9:20 when the show actually started. The moment the lights went on people went mad!
I have to say Jay Kay is an excellent performer, his band and singers we fantastic, but JK was just amazing! Everything I had expected and more. Even though the crowd were having a good time they could have been more responsive, but then that's the case with Dubaians as we call them, they tend to be less interactive than usual.
I had noticed Little H but didn't know who she was, I wish i did approach her it would have been even more fun. There was some cheeky action happening between Jay and some ladies but then he's always been the flirt right? I was impressed at how the band as a whole handled the technical problem with a sense of humor!
I cannot wait for them to come back! I would do it all over again and pay even double because it was soooo worth it.

Dubai Rocks was a good girl and posted on funkin and I left my email for her there. I remembered her from the concert she was just behind me to my left as we faced the stage. She remembered AA well.

She wrote me a lovely email. So nice I had to send Mr. Rowe a copy.

I've sent her some of the more personal pics, ones that she can relate to you. I'll bore Jamily with those later once I get the other fans permission to share them.

I became friends with the Manager of the local production company SLS. She escorted us aroung the venue for the best part of Thursday afternoon, and took my mobile number to text me if Jamiroquai turned up early for the sound test. They were due at 16:00 Hrs. and my husband son, friend Isobel and I went off for lunch in a nearby hotel. Jamiroquai in person did not do the sound test. The adjustments were made by the tour crew, whom I pictured, Mr. Nick Chapman, Mr. Jess Yemmi, Aidey (the guitar man), and the other usual men whose names I don't know (yet !!!).

Anyway the SLS manager confirmed that 6,000 attended. The promoters said they were happy if 4,000 attended.

Thanks so much for all the reviews so far Very Happy Wink

I am happy you all had a great time. This concert was special for me too, cause I got a phone call here to Germany from the Dubai concert from Marianne and her sons, some great Jamiroquai fans I know from the 2005 Düsseldorf gig. She was on holidays in Dubai with her family and took the chance to attend the concert. Even though I could not hear too much on the phone... Laughing ..it was a very special call for me. Big hug to Marianne and I hope she will find soon the time to register here in Jamirotalk Wink 2hug

US$300?! Just to have the city name printed in Jamiroquai script? Mind you that DOES look very cool... and why wasn't I called, Heather? I feel offended (although I'd have had to pay as I was abroad at the time, so I'm not complaining...)

I my euphoric panic I never noticed this. I had no time on the day of course and the tickets were swapped for wristbands. Sam spotted it well didn't he ?!?!?! And upon my later inspection encouraged by Sam's comments I saw that the rest of the printing in black ink was also in the Jamiroquai font. dhs = 'dirhams' the name of the currency was written in the same font too.

Thank you Deesh.

The remarks made in these reports compliments my observations about the organization. It was over staffed, well managed and general a very pleasant, relaxed and secure atmosphere.

It was interesting to hear the comments about the security guards. I know these men very well that are described. I had to verbally discipline one of them very early on in the afternoon. He made a mistake of making a sublte comment that he found 'clever' but for me it was way out of line.

He knew I was 'Arabic' of sorts, but because of my non-Saudi dressing that day, he thought he could get away with. I then pulled 'cultural' rank on him and spoke to him (in Arabic) in a reprehensible manner that caused him severe and warranted embarrasment in front of his colleagues. This same man seriously upset a young Arabic girl who was in the VIP area too. I was informed about this by email from her friend. If only I had known at the time !!!

The other security guards were utter gentlemen, but as a woman you do have to give out positive signals of not being vulnerable when having to deal with a minority of these types that do not even respect themselves.

One of the nicer security guards, an Egyptian, needed a favour in Saudi so we are keeping in touch. (He's the taller one in my videos).

There was a lot of panic and mismanagement about the backstage visit selection of concert goers. The poor girl, Hanan, who was in charge of this unenviable task was given different instructions and then kept getting told to reduce the numbers. It was a mess when we finally did get backstage and they had to ask more people to leave. The three majors 'beefs' were there too.

She had a horrific boss, who I would have had the great pleasure in 'burying', but I personally had no need to. He was a serious PR let down, and thoroughly unprofessional for a man in his position. He was molly-coddling 'Sir' JK, and this man had all the congenialtiy of a dead fish in the mid-day sun.

It was exceptional circumstance for me, because I was one of the few Arabic speaking concert goers, and I am not a push over and won't take no for an answer in the simplest of matters. I demand politeness and professionality of the appropriate level from the individual whom I am dealing with. Dealing with Arabic people sometimes demands reversal of norms to achieve a norm, contradictions all the way. Sadly, being a proper gentleman/lady, and waiting your turn is a signal of weakness, and I can easily imagine the brusque manner and disregard that some people, who did not deserve it, were treated with.

I saw this happening, but sadly I was not able to demand reasonable and fair treatment for the other concert goers who were hoping to get backstage.

The woman in charge of the production company for the Robbie Williams concert too became my friend on the day of the Jamiroquai concert, and we had dinner together the following day. I'll have to catch up with her and see how things went.
