RUBEN CAN
I would like to put a link
http://www.myspace.com/rubencan
where you could listen to 4 of my songs. It's (instrumental) music that I compose alone, without musicians or computers. Perhaps it is not in the preferred genre here in the forum, but...it would be nice for me if someone could give a opinion about them. My dream is to compose a soundtrack....
Thanks for all the opinions that I will receive, beautiful or...ugly.

cool. new music, i'll listen. thanks for posting it up.
how is your new baby doing by the way?
steppin high sounds like a very rave-ish song. like those songs in clubs that go on and on forever that kids take acid and dance to all night. not too sure about that one. i like the dance element, but i'm not into the repetitive beat..reminds me of trance, techno a bit. maybe too electronica for my liking.
keep the faith is okay. very space age type song. i think the notes that are played at certain parts (listening now..at the 2 minute 9 second mark) would do better if they were a bit lower. but i like this song best so far. good chill out song.
sad walk - that lone note key thing is throwing me off a bit, although i like the undertone of it and like when the beat comes in around the 2:57 mark.
clubbin is ehh...not bad, but not for me.
i think your songs have a bit of a small morcheeba vibe. i don't really know the style you were going for in them.
were these done using a keyboard? what kind?
good luck in your dream to compose a soundtrack. there are so many indie films out there that with the right networking, you'll find something.
thanks again for posting them up. i love new music, deesh _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

ohhhh..deesh....what could I say to you? Wonderful? This is the very first comment to my music and....no-one could have wrote better words than you!
"Morcheeba" vibe? But...but...that's fantastic! I like the trip hop influences....
To judge in the right way: I play everything (only my fingers, so mistakes are near the corner...) with a synth (alesis qs6.1), some loops and I record to a digital multitrack recorder. Only this.
My new daughter? Eh eh, SHE doesn't allow me to play....she needs attention, for the moment, not music....
Thanks a lot, deesh, you've touched my heart |

how cute about the little one... oh, newborns...they are so precious. enjoy her now while she is young and not driving you completely mad. she'll be running around the house before you know it and you'll NEVER get chance to play except in the wee hours when she is sleeping. but it is all so worth it and she will inspire you to create more music. she continues your bloodline, and there is no better gift or blessing than that!
trip-hop influence i can see. and i don't dig trip-hop, so maybe that's why i was a little avert to some of the tracks. i asked about the keyboard because you can obviously tell that they were recorded in the manner you described - which isn't a bad or good thing. i just think that at some parts it's too obvious or too programmed, if that makes sense.
i think you should increase parts like the one heard when that beat comes in at 2:57 on sad walk. it gives that song depth..the beat i mean, as where the other songs are so simple at parts that it gives a cold vibe and gets ehhh....repetitive and sleepy. it's the morning after i listened to them and i still remember that beat in sad walk, but the others, i don't remember anything - which means that part was impressionable and worth remembering.
sorry, i ramble. thanks again for sharing your music with us. it's not always as easy thing to open yourself up for critique especially on a music board with some very passionate music fans.
have a good day, deesh _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

...my dear: you're right, and I will try to follow your advice. What can I say? Some things come out better than others. I compose this songs on the sketch, and I don't have too much time a day to play something. But...tell me if you agree with me: are this songs (I repeat: composed with poor gear and equipment, and arranged in..10 minutes every 3 weeks....) LESS listenable than other...masterpieces? Think to similar artists that I try to emulate, i.e. Moby, Royksopp, Morcheeba....their songs are composed in FULL relax, they have all the gear they needs and all the time to arrange, mix and adjust....Compared to them, I'm like a small mouse in front of an elephant. Maybe I'm not talented like them but....give me 4 or 5 right keyboards, a recording studio only for me, and, THAT'S important, a 8-hour-day dedicated to my music... |

...my advice is just an opinion. one woman's ears. you go with what you feel you want to compose dear...no explanation necessary. it's your music to create how you feel. there is an audience for everything.
...about whether the songs are less listenable. to tell you the truth, i don't really listen to any of those people you mentioned, but maybe morcheeba here and there. so i wouldn't say the are less listenable than them. they have money and the best equipment, producers, etc. you are talented or you wouldn't have been able to put together something for people to listen to. just like all things..it can always be perfected upon and will in time babe..but you are talented
...keep on making the music and listen to how it keeps getting better, because it will and i hope you will share it with us in the future. _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

In all honesty this style of music is not really for me either. However i still respect you as a musician. I mean to create those ideas, rhythms and then to put them to music yourself........well i just respect anyone who can do that
My uncle actually plays many shows and gigs by himself and says that sometimes its very hard to do. He only plays guitar though.
I would have to pick Clubbin and Stepping High as my favourites. I particuarly liked the beat on Stepping High. As a drummer i enjoy analysing the background Oh and i thought the 'saxaphone' (i think that is what it was?) on that track was an excellent touch
Well done anyway.......
By the did you ever form that band you were talking about a while ago? |

...and, Mr Moon, I've specified that I knew my stile didn't fit in this forum tastes....composing music (and arrange it in a listenable way..) is very difficult for me in this time...2 daughters, my job, conducting a family...I'm not a professional musician, so I try to do my best with the little time I've....
(the "saxaphone"....eh eh, it's a loop I've found on the Net...I've only fitted it in my harmonies... ) |
