FC Barcelona are the winners of Champion's League
Anyone here interested in football? I just watched the Champion's League final between Arsenal and Barcelona. Barcelona won 2:1, but personally I wanted Arsenal to win this match, because Arsenal's striker Therry Henry is one of my favourite players. What is your opinion about this match? _________________

RUBBISH match! Utterly ruined by the referee, who as he admitted this afternoon should've waited a couple of seconds to see whether Lehmann did in fact prevent a goal being scored. 11 vs. 11 it was shaping into a brilliant game, but putting Arse down to 10 men just gave them no choice but to defend and make themselves hard to break down. In other words - the referee managed to make the one decision that punished BOTH teams, not to mention the watching world.
Certainly not helped either by Henry's ever-so-gracious interview after the match. Just remind me, someone, why does he get off unpunished for saying such things, bearing in mind Mourinho would've been summoned to UEFA to explain himself?
The ref was appalling, for both teams. The defenders - again, on both teams - were allowed to kick the opposing forwards about far too much without being penalised. Every sliding tackle was a foul. Ridiculous free kicks were constantly given to Arsenal, and he decided to even it up every now and then by giving an even more ridiculous one to Barca after about every 4 for Arsenal. Most of the time, what's more, these were free kicks Barca would probably rather not have had, since all they did was break the game and rhythm of the play up.
Really, really, REALLY, what a fucking RUBBISH referee.
However, for the first time in a while, the best two teams in the competition reached the European Cup final. And the best team in it won it. They didn't play as beautifully as normally, but at least Barca got over their initial nerves and finally got that second title.
After all the build-up it was hardly a great advert for the European game, after the sending-off at least, but then if you want footballing excitement, the Copa Libertadores is the one to watch anyway...
¡VISCA BARCA!

the decision of referee was not unfair...but as u said samiroquai...it was not good for the whole match afterwards...it would have been more thrilling with 11 men on both sides...
but in conclusion respect of the referee..he reacted good and fast...as far as i see it _________________ "Here it is...there is no way to make it better " |

Ha. Funny. If Messi had played it would've been a very different match, but he's got a few years yet before he truly becomes the very best.
And Sandriche, I'll say again, the referee was TOO fast, for me. He should have waited to see whether Lehmann actually HAD cost Barca a goal, before deciding what to do. Allowing the goal and booking Lehmann for his moment of stupidity would have been much fairer all round, would have been within the laws of the game still, and would have given us a better match...

Hi!!! I'm a Barça supporter and I was in Paris, in the final.
(I apologize for my English level)
To be honest, I think that Barça was a bit nervous at the beggining of the match, and they don't play as 'jogo bonito' as they use to play in this last 2 years. We played our last Champions League final in 1992, and everybody felt nervous.
Despite of being a bit nervous and making a big mistake (nowadays Iniesta is more important than Van Bommel in ower team), Barça let us known that he's again one of the most important clubs in the world and Eto'o and Belleti, with the support of Ronaldinho, Valdés and Larsson, bring Barça at the top of European success. For this reason the referee, who was horrible, stay over as an anecdote.
This days Barcelona is a party. We've won the Spanish league and the Chamìons League the same year. 1.2 milion of fans in the street, 120000 fans in Canaletes, 21000 in Paris, 100000 in Camp Nou...what more can I say. Barcelona is today a lucky place, and I feel totally satisfied. Visca el barça!!!! |

First of all, STOP APOLOGISING FOR YOUR ENGLISH! I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's not perfect, but it's better than my Catalán. Having said that, as a friendly tip, when you typed 'ower', you meant 'our'.
Still, you lucky person. Actually there for the final. Actually it was our (I say that because I've got cousins from Barcelona, so they're my team in Spain) first final since '94... but we'll not mention that one, shall we? I think we're safe, I don't believe there are any Milan fans here, but... y'know... let's just forget it. I definitely agree with the nervous thing, though. The first five minutes a few of the Barca players looked like they were shitting themselves. An attack of the Hotspurs, you might say. Pity Messi wasn't fit for it as well (not least because I had a bet on with Noe that he'd play some part, but that's between me and her...), if he had been it would've been a VERY different match.
But for now, just enjoy the party! I'll be there in October, by which time you lot will (probably) have calmed down a bit, but God willing we'll be laughing at the merengues for a few seasons yet!

Jeje of course not...It was extremely disappointing for us (for you too, I presume), because that day Barça was a ridiculous shadow of a football team and OUR Dream Team started to fall.

xD I supose so!!! This days Barcelona is the euphoria's place, and I hope it will keep on being happy for a long time

Jejeje That's for sure ...They need 2 years to build a new competitive team, because their players are old (Zidane) or they live 'la vida loca' (Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Ronaldo, Guti...) |

Well, Beckham doesn't live that badly, he's teetotal (doesn't drink alcohol). He's a prat though, which must count for something!
Must admit I can't remember '94 myself, I was only ten at the time and didn't really start to understand that football existed outside England until that summer. Even then it took another two years to realise just how big it was, since England didn't qualify for USA94, so I didn't watch much of it...
