All those genres you mentioned are similar, but of all of those, acid jazz is the most like 70s funk. It usually uses brass (trombone, trumpet and/or sax) and lays down a slow, groovy beat. Lounge I guess would be similar, but isn't neccessarily the same.
That's how I think of it, anyway. |

Incognito... I downloaded 3 songs (Colibri, Sunchild, One Hundred And Rising) and they`re great!!!!! I also bought (a year ago) Tourist, by St. Germain. Is hard to describe...is jazz with electronic maybe?? It gets too repetitive.
And who can tell me about Brand New Heavies? What do they sound like? |

BNH when I heard them first time it sounded just like a nice "dancy"thing but after that you' ll discover that BNH can/similar to Jamiroquai/rely on their rythm section:)
It's not a good description I am sorry
actually they are not so "acid jazz-ed" to me ...but it's my opinion
take care and have a nice weekend

returning after a loooong time
hi all, i registered quite a while ago here, but ive been away from the site for so long
ive been listenin to alot of great stuff, acid jazz, trip hop, some jazzhouse here and there, and also a funny retro-y genre Shibuya Kei from japan.
I'd imagined Jam fans i'd like this stuff as well, great to hear about trip hop and acid jazz and stuff!
some groups like mondo grosso (who have remixed jam.) Kyoto Jazz Massive, United Future Org, Koop, Jazzanova and Zero dB, brand new heavies , groove collective, incognito st. germain are definately the sort of thing i'd imagine Jamiroquai fans would also like,
also lots of alt pop type of groups like Cibo Matto, Cornelius, and Luscious Jackson, Beck

Don't forget this great website:
http://www.groovyfunkyjazzy.mp3.ms
There is currently an acid jazz mix available for download, but check for updates periodically. |

Acid Jazz is...
Acid Jazz is...Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Early Steely Dan (Aja), Rufus feat. Chaka Khan, The Jones Girls (Night Over Egypt), Incognito, Minnie Ripperton, Patrice Rushen, Donald Byrd at times and even certain Hall & Oates tunes had an acidy sound to them.
All good stuff! _________________ "I never realized it but, it's funny how a 35 year old drink can be better than sex!" |
