On a more serious note, I think it's best described as a very cautious system which has to do with first of all making sure your own team don't make any errors, and then making sure you're in a good position to exploit the errors made by the opposition when they start getting frustrated by your defence (and kicks). Goals are rare enough in football when both teams are trying to score them (part of the beauty of the game, because a goal in football MEANS SOMETHING in a way that a score in basketball, for example, just can't), never mind when one of the teams is Italy. Only Italians can do it and get away with it so frequently, because only Italians can defend quite that well.
And that violently (OK, sorry, I'll stop now ).

I think maybe it has something to do with the culture of contact sport we have filtering through...  If there's one thing we can't stand about this game, it's the soft free kicks and the way these guys fall over at the slightest touch! (we're learning though )
Still, what a dissapointing way to lose... Hopefully it'll get the kids in this country interested in the game - look out for us in the future!

IMH(Italian)O Italy isn't a good show. I don't like the way they play...as may of you said very defensive. yesterday the penalty wasn't correct but also the red card on Materazzi...so we have two errors compensating each other
Go ahead Italy!...let's meet Shevchenko friday

Don't worry.
We have a match against Ghana in two hours' time and no one is really that hopeful here, basically because our coach has more or less said he'll put the official team to play today. Even though ''Team 1'' beat Croatia and Australia, no one liked their playing. Against Japan, he put a lot of reserve players and the match was far more exciting. So ''Team 2'' became the favourite among the fans and sport commentators. But Parreira is ''embarrassed'' to keep out of the match 'important', 'ancient' names such as Roberto Carlos  , Cafu and Emerson . As if the national team was all about charity!!!!! It's very annoying. When rumours appear stating that Parreira receives money to pick this and that player, he gets annoyed... Well, he's asking for it, isn't he?
By the way, I think Ronaldinho will pass this WC totally unnoticed. He plays in the national team in a position different to the one he plays in Barcelona. He's already said that he has to get used to the new position. Brazilian coaches adore to change the players' positions... Go figure! |

There's something very peculiar about Italy. They tend to win the WC when they're playing badly and struggling against every oponent. 1982 comes to mind, so who knows what might happen to Italy this time around? No one is saying that Italy will win, which doesn't mean a thing.
That penalty yesterday was very strange. That's why I've always defended the use of video replay by the referees during the matches. Many people are against it, saying that these 'errors' are what make football interesting. I don't agree. |

Totally agree. Just watch Juninho. What a great footballer. He scored a superb free kick during the test matches (I think it was against New Zealand but I'm not sure), and another goal against Nippon team. |

He looks like Jay, he's his brazilian brother |

First of all: Brazil deserved win.
BUT THERE IS TOO MUCH RACISM WITH THE AFRICAN TEAMS.
THE REFEREES OF THIS MATCH WERE FUC*ING UNFAIR AND RACIST.
But this doesn't mean that Brazil does not deserve to be the winner. They didn't attacked too much, but the few times they attacked they scored.
And I'm not saying that Ghana didn't win because of the referees. They attacked all the time but don't have technic to score. The referees just bothered they all the time. Shame on them.

We've just won the match against Ghana, but no one liked the game here. We all wanted Team 2, not Team 1. Cafu and Roberto Carlos should have retired ages ago. We may have scored 3 goals, but we suffered hard from beginning to end. If Team 1 carries on playing, then I don't think we'll reach the finals at all. With Team 2 we stand a much better chance. Everyone can see that, except for our coach!! |

You know what, Leonardo has been working abroad for years, but he wants to return to Brazil and be a coach! A poll institute is currently carrying out a survey on him (He paid for it). A friend of mine was interviewed while he was in the court house (of all places!!). First they show you a picture of Leonardo in a suit and ask you if you know who he is and what he does. Then they turn the picture around and you see him wearing the Bralizian squad shirt. My friend was asked several questions. One in particular was curious: ''what event comes to mind when you think of Leonardo?'' According to the interviewer, the vast majority answered his expulsion in the 1994 WC game against the USA.
I like him, but I don't really picture him as a coach. Depending on the results of the polls, he'll return here and start a brand new career. |

In the first round, Ghana was the team that commited the most number of fouls. I think the referee was trying not to let the game go mad (like the Holland-Portugal one). Personally, I prefer it when a referee gives out cards and controls the game rather than seeing someone who doesn't control it at all.
What you said is right: Ghana can play but they don't have the technique - yet! A more experience team would have made the goals Ghana didn't. LIke I said earlier, I didn't like the match. Team 1 is rubbish in comparison to Team 2. |
