So what can you say England are out
That has to be one of the most frustrating games i have ever ever watched. Ahh there are so many things to say but what is the point now?!??!
In a strange sadistic way i am glad they are out because the way England had been playing it was only a matter of time anyway.
They worked hard (most of the time) but at the end of the day it just wasnt enough i guess. |

zidane strikes again. what a match, probably the best i've seen so far in this world cup but on the other hand... this now feels like the eurocup.

Congratulations to France! It's the second time in a row that you beat us in a WC. It's really annoying!
Unlike the Argentine fans, who were devastated after their defeat because Argentina played really well throughout the competition, there's no one crying in Brazil. No one liked any of the matches, except for Brazil x Japan. No one felt confident when Brazil played simply because Parreira, our coach, kept saying that the important thing would be for Brazil to win, not to play a ''jogo bonito'' (beautiful game) - as if both things (winning and playing well) couldn't go hand in hand. As if playing well wasn't the reason why Brazilian football became famous and successful all over the world. I only saw apathy in the game today. France was totally free to play.
The fans and EVERY sports commentator criticised Parreira's stubborness and the fact that he insisted on names that no one felt were good enough to be on the team: Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Emerson and Adriano. After the games, Parreira's comments were so ridiculous that it appeared as if he'd watched a completely different game than the rest of us. He thought the main team was excellent. Everyone else preferred the reserve one. I guess we were right.
The fact that Ronaldinho, two times voted the best player in the world, has left the tournament without scoring a single goal speaks wonders about Parreira's ability to be our coach. Supervisor Zagallo (who was our coach in 1998 and thought it was normal to have Ronaldo play the final after his convulsion) is just as stubborn and seeing them both together this time was a pretty good sign that we weren't going anywhere.
Brazil reached the finals in the last 3 WC and is now leaving the competition in the quarter-finals, even though the group has some great players. Parreira's awful scheme is definitely to blame for that.
Scolari, who ran Brazil in 2002, is a TOTALLY different coach and I'd love him to return after he quits Portugal this month. He's a tough, brave guy and doesn't accept pressure from CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) to designate this or that player for the matches. In fact, that's the reason why he left the Brazilian squad.
See you again in 2010!

True. The WC now is totally European.
It happens... |

I forgot to mention.
England x Portugal was a great game!
The penalty shoot-out was very exciting.
For sentimental reasons, I was supporting Portugal and hope Scolari takes them all the way to the finals. He really deserves it. He did a brilliant job with Brasil in WC 2002. He's doing a great job too, this time with Portugal. I'm a huge fan of his. |

Congratulations to the winners. I was so proud of my England boys tonight, they played like absolute gentlemen and as far as I am concerned, with 2 of their best players down and lots of politics on the referees' part, they were extremely unlucky!
The played brilliantly and elegantly and I love them for that!

Good luck to the remaining teams!
