Ohw come on, Sony can rip out their heart and serve it on a plate.
But, as a starting band....they will get any contract they can get!!!
And who can blame a new band/artist? |

freaky darling - I understand what you mean. I am submersed in the world of underground hip-hop. These MC's and DJ's are dying for a contract, well more like national/international distribution because most of them won't give up their masters to be on a label.
This is 2006:
-where the information is at the tip of your fingers though the web
-where there are so many programs and organizations out there to help new artists NOT get in bad label situations
-when there are affordable lawyers that offer services to new artists
-when the independent scene is the HOT scene right now anyway - because people are looking for alternatives to the product of the major labels
I don't feel there is any reason for signing your life away on a BS contract. Of course there are exceptions, but to me...not that many. And there are good independent labels.
If you notice, most of the label problems people are having now are contracts that were signed awhile ago. What's the use of having a record contract if after it's all done or at the end - you have nothing left. Think of how many artists you hear going bankrupt, and how many die penniless while their songs are continuing to make money for the men in the big comfy chairs. This was especially apparant during the Motown era. Well, this also has to do with bad investing, but that's irrelevant.
Most new artist do their homework enough to NOT be in these situations, and truth - if they didn't, then maybe they should be contemplating another career. You don't sell your art and control of it for money. Sure it's harder doing it the Indie way, but hey...that's life - go get a myspace like everyone else and earn fans, instead of having a label rob people (including self) to be your fans.
Okay, I'm starting to feel like Sam in my response here, so I'll end it.
Sorry, this is just something I enjoy talking about!
Note: I'm not directing this at Jamiroquai, just speaking my mind _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

what about the booklet?
it is clear that is not an album for the real fans in terms of songs but...what about the booklet?
i'm quite sure it will not include the musician credits (as always) ans this time this list would be really long, but it can be great if at least there are photos of the main jamiroquai bandmembers over the years as we will be hearing them in the songs selected, it can be a nice opportunity to do a great booklet with so many pages, lot of info and photos over the years....... _________________

Haha... I'd love to pretend I don't know what you mean, Deesh!
A good booklet would be nice, but since this is Sony we're talking about, I wouldn't hold out too much hope...

yeh i agree in that one... why to talk about people who don't exist anymore in Jamiroquai??? but i dunno, they will probably will be there...
what i think is that this album will be done like in "boring" state... like: "ohh i'm bored... put some pics there, and credits and the booklet is done..." _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!

Maybe Sony should have a competition!
Who can creat the best booklet, ok i am clueless about the price.
Sony would get the credit for a good booklet and us..we would get a great booklet. Win/win situation?
Deesh, sorry for going really offtopic...but it interests me.
Over here we have them idols competitions, talking about selling your soul.
And the worst part, it looks like a good singer/band has to join those silly competitions. Because they are afraid that they won't make it without those shows!
But, if you don't win...ppl will forget you so fast and they are not allowed to bring out music before the winners single is out!
And this means, we will only have idols artists???
Strange, but true...kinda sad i think! |

well, i don't have hope about sony with the booklet neither (and not sure about jay looking that dynamites booklet is designed by him and it's the only one appearing on the photos) but saying "why to talk about people who don't exist anymore in Jamiroquai??? but i dunno, they will probably will be there..." in a greatest its album were they still EXIST in MOST of the songs on it is totally absurd... _________________

well, as i've seen, for jay it looks like these people has never existed in his life...
so, why on earth are they gonna be named in HIS new album?? i dunno... if also the new bandmembers don't appear in the bootlegs... no pictures... anything! on the first three albums, when Jamiroquai was Jamiroquai you can see them all!!! as far i remember!!! or are you gonna say it's not true?? _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!

Ed, wasn't Toby, Derrick and Wallis all pictured in the 4th booklet?
Hold on..let me go get mine and see....yep, they are!
Freaky, Well..those people going on those shows know what they are signing up for. They know that they will have to surrender practically every artistic creativity for atleast the first album. I understand they want to make it, and that's cool and all, but I still wouldn't do it if I were a serious artist. Then again, look at Justin Timberlake, he joined NSync to get his foot in the door and did all that pop group crap, and then went on his own and did his own thing using that as a catalyst.
It's all politics of the business, which I'll never fully understand. _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

bootlegs are not made by sony nor jay, sometimes is made by people who even don't know what jamiroquai is...but still your comment abou HIS album is out of place....it's an album with old songs... _________________
