Synkronized: I appreciate you now...
buffaloman_B Hello, :bm_b:

In the past, I had always condemned Jamiroquai fourth album "Synkronized" as a "rushed album", but after a few new listens, I think I can easily change my mind. My fresh onlook of this album pretty much started strangely enough in my local record store, every day I would pass the "Letter J" section of the "Used CDs" portion of the store, and see "Syn" sitting there amongest the other cds giving off a sorrowful glint from the lights. This began to make me feel a bit sorry for it (Much the same feeling I get when I see any of Jamiroquai's past catalogue sitting neglected there in the Used CDs), so bought the "Syn" and decided to relisten to the album and give it a fair review, thinking my original onlook of the album was underrated. Well, I pretty much after the third or fourth run through listen of the album can really respect JK and Jamiroquai's attempts on the album. But I still can't have that overwhelming feeling of "What a great album", I mostly think "What a great group of songs". Yeah, to many young fans, they thought "Syn" was a great album, to seasoned fans probably there most danceable party album, but to me, honestly, there is a excellent grouping of songs on that piece of disk. Yeah, "Canned Heat", "Black Capricorn Day", "Soul Education", "Butterfly" & "King For A Day" all have deep musical landscapes, but not lyrically strong, still, the pack a punch. The only song on the album that really makes me appreciate the album is "Where Do We Go From Here", all Jam albums starting from TWOM to the recent AFO ( Songs in question: TWOM: Function & Do You Know Where You're Coming From, Synkronized: Where Do We Go From Here, AFO: Do It Like We Used Too) have all had one song that seems to a porthole with a glimpse back to the old sound that everyone feel in absolute love with. I'm not discounting all the others songs on all the albums, they are make up the rich musical tapestry of Jamiroquai. I'm just making the point that we still haven't had a Jamiroquai album that will be remembered for "all the songs" on it, but for specific songs, a far cry from "EOPE" & "ROTSC". But hopefully with the 6th album, JK will abandon the party kids of Ibiza, which he catered to in the last three albums, and make a album that might not pick up on their ears, but excite us fans who have been waiting in the boat for a while for a glimpse of that old sound. Thanks for listening and take care! Peace!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Not a flawed album, but a nice listen!!!

I must be one of the few people that actually like Destitute Illusions. It gives some magical atmospheres. And I too don't think Synkronized is that bad album at all. I personally like it more than A Funk Odyssey because it has a warmer, mellower sound in it. In AFO there are fine tunes like Love Foolosophy and You give me something that are great songs but sound too plastic. That's why I always like to listen for example a live version of lovefool instead of the album version.

Cheers!

I totally agree with you Geuze. I too think that Destitute Illusions is a great tracks, to me even one of the best on Synk. But its strange, and I suppose JamiroFan discribed it in the right way, saying that Synk has a good group of songs. What the album is missing is a good flow. If you listen to EOPE and TROTSC, these albums go so well, it totally fits together. Whereas Synk, and especially AFO, sounds like its a compilation album. There are tunes in there which are really cool, but you just want to skip some (and doesnt it always make you feel bad when you want to skip a Jami track? lol).

Synkronized and the infinite discussion
MMM... I agree on that about the nice group of songs. But actually, I liked it since the first moment (it was the first one I bought). But what I want to talk is about that of the family thing.
At home, the only thing I hear everyday is Jam (except from some days, when I listen to Chemical Brothers, E W & F, Mr. Stevie Wonder, or Simply Red) and my mum started to like it. And now she wants to come with me if they give a concert here!!!
And nobody goes crazy when I hear the same Jami songs ...THEY THINK I AM THE CRAZY ONE!!!!!!

Hahaha. Everyone thiks I'm the crazy one for listening to Jami!

I am not crazy! I am unique! I do not listen to label branded pop stars that sick around for 3 years and disappear off the face of the earth cuz their album sales drop. I am funky!

Ohh, and skipping Jami tracks makes me feel bad. Guilty even. Sort of like when you eat all the cookies out of the jar!

And about this family thing...(damn I still live with them, should get my own place! who helps a poor student, please?) I got my sister to like it, my mum likes some songs but I play it soooo often, I can imagine them getting annoyed with it. And there are these songs like "The Kids" that drive my mum mad...I put my headphones on for those, hehe 7headphones

Again the Synkronized
I decided to make my own album review about Synkronized (actually, I think I did one before...mmm). Many times we talked about it. And somehow it always come back to the forum.
First of all, Synkronized is not a bad album. That´s for sure. Canned Heat, Black Capricorn Day, Soul Education, Supersonic, Butterfly, Where Do We Go From Here are great tunes, but the album seems to be a ´greatest hits´ compilation. Every track sounds as a single. Maybe the title resumes all. They tried to synchronize it by putting together two differents things: an album with great tracks but also they didn´t want to make a mistake after winning so many awards with TWM.
And it´s true: the lyrics are not as strong as they were in the previous albums. Even Planet Home sounds like the GreenPeace soundtrack, which is not a bad thing (in fact I like that song), but it could have been better, in my opinion. Another example of poor lyrics? Supersonic... Come onn.....
Another I would like to say about Synkronized is that the sound quality is perfect (AFO sounds mmmmmm... the drums are often electronic and the percussion and the backing vocals in Main Vein sounds plastic, like someone said... but let´s talk about AFO in other topic).
To resume, I like Synkronized. It might not be the best album, but is not the worst either.

PS: Who knows, in a few days I can easily change my mind...
PS 2: The inside booklet is one of my favourites. Let´s face it... who wouldn´t like to have one of those´buffalo-mirrors´?

Someone agrees about SUPERSONIC!!!!! Thank you so much. For years I have listened to the European audiences simply rave about this song, and I can't bear to listen to it.

Lyrics remind me of SNOOZE YOU LOSE.... sorry jamirofan, I know you like that song.

I guess I'd have to agree with everything that's been said about Synkronized. I liked it when I first bought it, and then I lost interest in it when I rediscovered EOPE and ROTSC, and Synkronized gathered dust. I rediscovered it recently and realized that it had much more to offer than I initially gave it credit for, but it's still a "in the mood" album. I can't listen to it all the time.

Cheers.

Ola supersonic black

That mirror.hum...very fine. Well you can make one mirror like that.
Arranje your self an old mirror, and design the body of Buffalo , and with a knif , (not a normal Knif, one to cut glass) you can mak one . But if you want , you can go to a store of glasses and make one. (bit mor expencive)

If i want one like that....of course.

But after this idea...i will try to find one old glass here at home balla balla
