Leon Ware/Dexter Wansel Mixtape Coming!
Hello,
You know, it's a real shame that most of the albums from Acid Jazz/Funk master Leon Ware & Dexter Wansel aren't available in the States, nor it large quantities in Europe . I mean, I had been looking for some select rare albums from both artists, simply to fill the voids in my Jamirobrain with all the other songs from their collective discographies, just to find to my astonishment that they are all nearly "out of print", from "Inside Is Love" to "Life On Mars", they are all unavailable. So, after doing alot of musical digging in my collection, I figured I would creat a mixtape, of equal balance, between both of these esteemed artists of my fav songs from them (That I have heard) and share this with fellow Jami fans so they can behold the same musical mastery that I came upon while hunting their music down. But there is a ethical question that nags me, if their music is out of print and unavailable, would it be alright to share my mixtape of their music with others? So what do you think? Should I upload my mixtape and share with others OR scrub the whole idea? Thanks in advance for all your feedback, upon what I hear from you, I will make up my mind. Thanks also for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000
P.S. To learn more about the amazing musical discographies of both of these artists, check out their profiles and musicologies each here ( I simply LOVE the AllMusic resource site, if you register with the site, you can listen to audio samples from ANY musical artist on the site, just click on the album listed with a little microphone ):

Brent - amazon.co.uk have absolutely LOADS of stuff by both artists. Just go there, select 'Popular music' as the search criteria, and type the name in! I won't link you directly to the search results because I have a feeling it'd sign you in on my account if you followed that link, but trust me, if you can stomach ordering CDs from a UK site, it's there to be got!

Nice post / idea JamiroFan
I really like some of Leon Ware's stuff after hearing his track on Late Night Tales.
I keep meaning to get some of his CDs but i have yet to get any
Seems like Sam has provided us with a solution (admitedly an easier solution for me rather than you).
However, if you go ahead with you original idea i would love to check it out |

I found a couple of months ago the LP of Leon Ware that contains "What's Your Name", from the Late Night Tales album, is called "Inside Is Love", I think. I bought it only 1,5 dollars!!!! and the album is EXCELLENT. It could be one of the best I got, every song is just perfect, great album.

hi
i also noticed that sometimes its easier to find albums of 70s american rare groove funk musicians in UK than in USA. I guess there are a lot of fans of oldschool jazz funk in Britain. I remember Stu Zender said about it in one of his interviews that in London theres a big rare groove following.
i have 4 Dexter Wansel albums (uk releases)
1976 - Life On Mars
1977 - What The World Is Coming To
1978 - Voyager
1979 - Time Is Slipping Away
and from Leon Ware i have 1976 "Musical Massage" cd and 1979 "Inside Is Love" vynil LP .
akll these albums are available on http://www.amazon.co.uk |

Yes it really was. I'm into that lately. I also bought Ramsey Lewis, Earth Wind & Fire, and Commodores, for the same price each!

hi mate
no, i dont have 2004 "Digital Groove World"
| Quote: |
| In late 2004, nearly two years removed from the end of his stint at PIR, Wansel quietly recorded and self-released his first solo album in over a decade. Digital Groove World is a mostly instrumental album, but Wansel's love of technology and his unusual, often unexpected arrangements make Digital Groove World a little loopier and a lot more interesting than a typical smooth jazz disc. Funky pieces like "Five Months to Mars" and "Believe This" are offset by melodic smoother songs like "A Kool Summer" and "My Vacation," a great summer song which features a nice vocal addition by Denise King. World is a solid album in its own right, and for lovers of Soul Music it marks the welcome return of a legendary songwriter and artist. |

yes, there are some great tracks. he used cool old synthesizers:
ARP 2600, MINIMOOG, OBERHEIM,
and Hohner Clavinet, Rhodes and RMI "Electra" piano.
hey.... i want to tell you if you still haven't heard Marvin Gaye's 1976 "I Want You"
album, get it. its the deepest and most beautiful music i've ever heard, except jamiroquai, of course. |

Yeah... artists like Roy Ayers and Edwin Starr are (apparently) much easier to get hold of over here, because they had a lot more success over here than back in the States. The rare groove scene in London is good, but better in Manchester. One my mates from uni is from London and a couple of his dad's friends are heavily into funk and soul - they drive up from London to Manchester twice a year to stock up on records because they can't find stuff down in London!
Now you know why I love Manchester so much
