i did hear it now!
(and i'm listening to it again and again now)
my opinion about the track:
i like it
it haves the average quality of dynamite album, i would say, that it's in the same line af dynamite (album)
the bass is great, so the strings are
the problems i see (or hear) are: the drums are not as funked up as i expected.
the songs it's funk-pop (i don't hear justin timberlake but i can imagine a song like this one "performed" by him) and definitely not "smooth disco funk"
the bassline, as said cool one, but sadly in the same key as you give me something, do it like we used to do, and some other new tunes that i don't want to remember now....
it really sounds to me like a recicled and forced jami song, poped up...it seems like if they have played you give me something and give it another disco-pop turn...the middle part sounds the SAME! (maybe playing that part from YGMS backwards we get this one! )
so that's it..... _________________

There must be something in the air here in Eastern Europe that we all have the same feelings... |
yes, I agree, thats interesting why?
why we're able to tell apart what is greatest and what is worst
why we noticed all differents between real classic Jamiroquai (like If I Like I Do It, Mr Moon, Cosmic Girl, Love Fool) and some new Jamiroquai (like Starchild, Black Devil Car & Runaway
|
I wouldn't draw a paralell between Dynamite (the album) and Runaway as I dig almost the whole album (mostly Starchild), cause I was able to separate oldschool stuff from the new material (and enjoy the new one also), I just say that this track didn't reach my expectations, doesn't really makes me dance (and for me this is the best indicator...). |

Just like my thoughts, "Little L" is smooth disco funk, remember how it starts, you can't stand starting to move to the rhythm and drums... |

Just listened to the full track...the song just ROLLS on Paul's bassline. Jay made a GREAT decision in bringing him on. I also like the drums, not as loud but I sense a deep thump that gives the track some punch. This isn't an instant classic but it's definitely a nifty spin. Expected as much, you rarely get a new song that's 'instant classic' off a greatest hits album. Thumbs up. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It's not superb, and I agree It does sound very overproduced... just fiddled with for too long lol. Plus, there's no brass.
I still like it so I'm happy. Who else is making music like this now?
And I love the middle eight, very Michael Nyman.... which is fab!

I still prefer Cosmic Girl's Quasar mix to the original. I don't think it really means much. Performed live Cosmic Girl is the dogs bollox, and I'm certain Runaway will be incredible too! |

Ditto (kind of).
Half the man in me wants to hear "Runaway" NOW...badly! But hearing FJLIS way before it's release ruined it slightly, so I think I'll hold on until video/single release.
Good to see (mostly) positive(ish) reviews from you guys on here though! |

Well... first up, for Inaki and Supersonic1 - who both mentioned the drums - it's a drum MACHINE.
Likewise, the strings and horns are synthed, by the sound of it (that's a guess, but the drums are definitely a machine - I know because Derrick told me!).
The bass is great, though, and I quite like the guitar. I really like it as a song, even though in terms of the studio-sound, I think it'll be better when it's done live, with real instruments.
Put it this way - I'll be buying a Jamiroquai single for the first time in a couple of years! Looking forward to hearing the Grant Nelson version all the way through too...

I agree, but... um... I really don't know, to be honest. I said to Derrick (on Myspace) that my best mate's a drummer, so I sort of feel for drummers because they never get as much recognition... and I really don't understand why people use drum machines when they don't need to.
