Not really. I've never thought a venue just flat out sucked - well, the Jamie Lidell boatcruise was like the damn Titanic after it sunk, but that didn't stop me from having a good time.
I have thought that venues were inappropriate or not fit for an artist, but not so much the venue actually sucked.
Underground spots are always grimey and what not, but I'm used to that and it's not THAT bad. Most places that are run down that I see concerts in are also very historic and beautiful, so I tend to notice that more I guess.
Yvie - Bev Knight is something I'd like to see in a small setting or medium type club setting, just to see her sing and fill up the room without a mic. I know she could do it!

Well... Colston Hall in Bristol is fucking terrible, really. Long and narrow and the acoustics are crap. Plus it's named after a slave trader...
They're redesigning it at the moment, going to do a complete refit and rebuild the entire ugly '60s concrete monstrosity. But keep the current concert hall. So it'll look nice and shiny from the outside, but inside it'll be the same crappy venue.
That's how they do things in Bristol...

The best concert I ever saw:
Santana at the ice-skating park in Remich (Luxembourg) in 1995.
Man, this concert was perfect. Santana played Rock like Jazz, which means playing the themes of his most popular tunes and jamming in between of them, with flawless solos. And this for over 3 hours.
The worst concert I ever saw (and for which I payed):
Joshua Redman at the Atelier in Luxembourg-Hollerich in 2006. Well, the accoustics were bad and Joshua Redman didn't seem to put enough "love" into his solos. And finally, the concert didn't even last 1:30 hours.
Now you may think, why is this guy from Luxembourg not putting a Jamiroquai concert as his favourite gig ever into this post. Well, I went to the Jamiroquai concert last year at Amnéville (near Metz, France). For me it was average, even if the audience was hot (with many nice-looking women  ) and the performances of the songs "Alright" and "Too young too die" were simply magnificent. But, and now the points why I felt this gig as average, the accoustics weren't at the top at the Galaxie in Amnéville and the horns were missing, especially when they played "Revolution 1993".

For all of us hardcore Jamirofans that sing along, dance, shout the lyrics, etc etc...
That Linkin Park show that I mentioned along with the NYC Jamiroquai shows had a better crowd. And the NYC crowds were electric! But to this day, for the millions of concerts I've seen- I've never seen a crowd like that one for Linkin Park. That's a big part of what makes a show so great like there.

Best audience at a gig for me was when I saw Scribe. May have been because even though the show was in London, 90% of the audience were Australians or New Zealanders...!! |
