That's all good and well, but what people want with Jamiroquai is more than that. You say yourself - that's all within the metal genre. Different types of metal, but still within that strain.
What I mean is *major* bands that totally change their style of music. If Jamiroquai had gone from Acid Jazz, to Lounge Jazz, to Smooth Jazz, to House Jazz over the years, it would be feasible that they would go back to Acid Jazz.
What they have done is move from acid jazz all the way to 'Electronic Rock Pop Funk' or whatever one would call it. They're not about to go back!
The thing is that fans want a return to that original music just to please their personal tastes, which is essentially a selfish thing. Jay isn't doing this for you, or me, or anyone else for that matter. His music is his career, and he needs to evolve and build upon his previous work to achieve what he wants from it.
His motives are his motives, and every fan that says 'I want them to make music like they used to!' is essentially saying 'I don't care what Jay wants! I just want what I want!'
The music of Jamiroquai belongs to Jamiroquai. We do not have a right to question what they do. If you like what they make, then good! Listen to it and enjoy. If you don't, then you don't. Don't listen to it in that case. It's really simple

i'm agree with DrPhunk on this (althoug i know a band wich went from CUBAN MUSIC to HARDCORE to return to CUBAN music!)
just a couple of night ago i realized listening to feels just like it should that it really sounds exactly like all the other jamiroquai tunes, all of them are jamiroquai if you see them like jay do. what i mean is that jay has grown 15 years and we been hearing his soundtrack.
but that doesn't mean jamiroquai can't do again,acid jazz, or funk, or even jazz.

Exactly! We should be grateful that we've heard an evolution as he's grown, otherwise Jamiroquai could have ended up like so many other bands that are around for that long - stale and tired. We don't have to like every song as much as every other song, we can prefer the new or old stuff, but we can't expect Jay to stay still just to satisfy our desires.
Of course I'm not saying I wouldn't like a return to the roots  |

They also had another short news article at Jamiroquai.com saying that as well as being in Glamour amgazine last month and Elle Magainze this month, they there will be some more interviews with Jay coming up soon, so I think that they'll be doing pretty heavy promotionj for the album - YAY!!!!

I hear you DrPhunk. But my example with Kiss is still valid though. They're major, they went from hard rock to disco... and then to something I can't even put a good label on... I decided to call it rock opera in lack of a better description. And they went back to their rock'n'roll roots.
Testament was a very big thrash metal band in the 80's, ask anyone who was into the scene at that time. But I admit they're not Metallica. What Alex Skolnick, the lead guitarist, did when going from thrash metal to jazz and bebop was a HUGE change in direction. I've always thought musicians turn to jazz when everything else is boring and too simple for them. That was his reason too according to interviews. But suddenly it seems like he felt that going back to his roots is what he needed... he found his way home. Alex Skolnick is an insanely gifted guitarist by the way. Technically he's right up there in the hall of fame along people like Al Di Meola, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Steve Vai etc.
However... I buy everything you say. But with one exception. I still think Jay may change his mind one day and decide that Jamiroquai will go back to the roots. It's not impossible. When there's nothing more for him to discover he may want to rediscover the music that once made him big.
I still love the music although I prefer the old style. I would be very happy if they started playing acid jazz again. But I'm also happy with what they're doing now.
But... what makes Jay happy may not make the fans happy at the end of the day. I mean... as long as I like the music I'll support the band, of course. But I still feel that I have the right to wish for something else... "to please my personal taste". We do have the right to question what they do. And our weapon of choice is money. Like you said yourself... it's really simple. If we don't like it we don't buy it. And no, I'm not suggesting that we download it instead. I see no reason to download something you don't like. I can only speak for myself, but I buy what I like.
So... I just want to say that as long as Jamiroquai makes music I like I'm happy. But I would be even happier if they made music I really love, eg the old acid jazz style. As I believe that Jay still has a love for the rare grooves he grew up with I think the possibility for him to return to the old style is there. Perhaps not in full, but elements of it (mind you... the elements are still there), eg reintroducing brass and the occasional digeridoo just as a nod towards the longtime fans.
And I can also tell you that if Jay decides to change direction again and starts making something I really don't like I'll just stop buying the releases and will have to settle with their back catalogue. It's simple.
Who knows what the future's got in store for us? Jay may decide that electro-polka-drum&bass is the way to go (not likely of course, lol) and I can assure you that I'd drop Jamiroquai like a bad habit if something like that happened. It's possible that he would gain new fans to replace the old ones though.
Edit:
Many bands who are in the business for a long time take a risk to become stale and tired. Jamiroquai hasn't and I don't think they would have even if they had kept their old style. Incognito sure didn't and Bluey has been doing that stuff since 1981 although it was 10 years between Jazz Funk and Inside Life. From Inside Life to present they've been cranking out quality stuff and they're still going strong. Do I need to mention that Incognito is my second favourite contemporary band?

I agree with you, for example Incognito never lost the horn section in their band, something which would have done good to Jamiroquai.
And by the way, Incognito is also my second favourite band. (For instance I'm listening to Incognito at the moment. To be precise the "Who needs love" album, which contains one of my favourite ballads: "Can't get you out of my head".)

Wowowowow...Incognito is my second favorite band as well!!
I love their songs. Stuff like "Summer's Ended",
"Chase the Clouds Away", "Living Against the River", "Colibri","Let The Mystery Be", "Wake Up The City", "The 25th Chapter", "Gypsy"...
too many to list. Awesome band. Second only to Jamiroquai.

Here is a quick update on some Runaway related news...
* Runaway will be the BBC Radio 1 "Weekend Anthem" this coming weekend (21,22 October), as chosen by DJ Vernon Kay. The song will be played on every weekend daytime show.
* A "Jamiroquai Special" will be added to music TV channel "The Box" from 20 October
* Runaway has recently been added to the playlist of music TV channel "Smash Hits".

I wasn't sure whether it was worth starting a new topic for this but here is just a short review of Runaway I found on the ntlworld.com website ( http://www.ntlworld.com/music/review_single.php?page_zone=9534.8.5&storyid=229375 ):
Jamiroquai: "Runaway"
One of two new tracks especially written for Jay Kay's upcoming Greatest Hits collection, Runaway is a pretty decent assessment of all that's been good about the funkateer.
Sure it's by no means groundbreaking, but then this is Jamiroquai, and as good-time disco songs go this is up there with Canned Heat and Cosmic Girl. Okay, so lyrically it's pretty much about nothing and the cat in the hat never strays too far from his tried and over-tested Stevie melodies, but the seriously killer bassline combined with a vivacious (yes vivacious) disco string section should ensure plenty of plays at the office Christmas party.
'Okay, so lyrically it's pretty much about nothing...' - haha what do they know??
