Well this new song is growing on me a lot if im being honest!
On the Jamiroquai subject, I played the song to my sister and my mum from the start and by the intro they both thought it was Jamiroquai!!
I think once the song kicks in though theres no real similarities between Jamiroquai and this song other than the as already mentioned Rhodes thats on there. _________________ 'This is the world he wants, pray for the brave and the young...' |

Hello,
Well, err, Jamiroquai comparisons to new Robbie Williams songs is rather unexpected, but I can see the similarities in this track . The choice of horns, the basslines, the slight echoed falsetto of Robbie, looks like he learnt alot from listening to Jamiroquai's "A Funk Odyssey" during "Rudebox's" album composing. "Lovelight" is indeed a grower, as well pointed out, but next to the single "Rudebox", the ONLY 2 highlights on Robbie's new "rushed" album ( Yes, I use that wording simply cause it sounds like Robbie wanted to rush this new album, his last new album "Intensive Care" was WAY BETTER than this new one, out to suffice his MULTI-MILLION POUND contract with Virgin! ). Thanks for listening and Peace!
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000 _________________

Yes, and Justin sounds like Jamiroquai sometimes (come on, Rock Your Body, song + video... it was Little L!)
The track is very good in my opinion, it does sound like George Michael, yes. Is growing on me too.

It's pretty good from 2:35 towards the end. In fact, it's very good for being Robbie Williams. Sadly his voice isn't the best imho. And the vocal melody is rather bland... not enough tang for my taste.
I do understand the comparisons with Jamiroquai (as well as George Michael)... but just because you have a couple of blue-noteish Rhodes chords and some brass doesn't make it sound like Jamiroquai. It ain't got enough swing baby. It's too sterile. Nor is Robbie any George Michael... far from it.
But I must admit that I was positively surprised when I watched the video. It's much better than I had expected. _________________ Old school forever! |

robbie didnt even come up with this track
its just a cover of a song from lewis taylor (the guy from the eirs of soul video who isnt jamiroquai) though robbies version is better and hass much more of an upbeat tempo and the instrumentation is much better
thats why his voice doent exactly match
go find the original and you will see what i mean
in fact the new album has quite a few covers _________________ On the inside he was dead, And this is what he said ..... |

..this is THE song (or the cover) that Jay had to do. No doubt. This arrangement is what I define "new.funk": a punchy rythm, acid synth bass, horns, and...oh, what a chorus! Listen to the harmonies, played by Rhodes, and how the melody suites perfectly in them! I hate Robbie but....this is a GREAT cover! In a very funk way.... |
