jamiroquai unknown early live track: frames
richard (darthbuzz) talked to me about this at london, he even sang a part of the chorus to me Laughing Laughing Laughing
he told me they played only once in an early concert, and said to me that it was really funky and cool.
somebody knew about this one?

This is news to me. I've never heard of 'Frames' before.

Did Richard have a recording? Or did he remember the song just by hearing it once that long ago? Cause if it's the latter of the two... well, let's just say it must've been one helluva captivating tune.

Man, I'd love to hear this. I bet someone somewhere has a recording. At least an audience recording on MD or something.

Maybe I should ask someone about this and hope for an answer. Wink

The MD was introduced to the consumer market as a playback/recording device in 1992. I bet those suckers cost a fortune back then though. However, it's not impossible that someone used one to record the gig in question. Wink

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

Confused Hmmm...do you think Darthbuzz could have been joking, cause from my wide "live Jamiroquai" experience, I don't remember any word about this unknown song Confused . Rolling Eyes But who knows, this COULD be a real old performed song, I mean, I we only knew bare details about "Natural Energy" until JK confirmed it only just recently Rolling Eyes . So, as noted by Jonas, you should inquiry further to Darth and keep a eye out for a recording, if it's a HARD TO FIND gig, then it will probably remain "unheard". Wink Nevertheless, thanks for the info and Peace Wink!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

P.S. Wink Very keen point Jonas, I mean, I still remember winning that Sony MD player as part of the past Jami "Synkronized" album U.S. promotion and it did have a "mic record" option on it Wink!

midnight funk

As far as I know, the little snippets of the original Synkronized doesn't have a name. I think the 'Midnight Funk' title is fan-made, I'm not sure.

'Frames'... interesting. We should ask Jay or Derrick, perhaps they remember Rolling Eyes

D!

Hmmm... Well, I'm certain that if it was played during that tour only once, it must've been played live quite a few times, also. What some of you people gotta know is that the band wasn't assembled in 1991, but in 1989. That makes it possible for Derrick to be not the second, but the THIRD drummer. The underground Acid Jazz scene was practically littered with pioneer bands, but only a few of them actually had broken to the mainstream audience, the other ones were forgotten. I'm certain that EOPE was an album that must've helped Acid Jazz get into the mainstream, by a LOT.

My own little conclusion is that "Frames" (and "Natural Energy") was played frequently, but only between 1989 and (very late) 1992, while Jamiroquai probably weren't even named that way, and were playing in small underground jazz clubs in west london. I'm also pretty sure that there was another drummer before Van Gelder who was playing with Jamiro those days (Or am I just an idiot who's asking a question that's already been answered?... Make me smart.)...
