to all the Jamirowomen...
okay...
this is a question that arose at work today...
Do you feel as a woman Jamiroquai fan it's difficult to get yourself recognised for your love of the music rather than being a Jayophile?
(okay...at the gig last night...soooooooooo many Jayophile's!). _________________ All Hail the King |

okay....let's give an example....
Last night...there was a woman in the crowd, she repeatedly asked Jay to sign her HT dvd - her voice was loud, caught Jay's attention - until we hear the recording I cannot say for sure what was said, but reference to "porn". During the gig, there were a few times Jay and the woman interacted.
Okay...out of the people from this forum and our friends, there were 3 women representing the Jamily, myself, Claire and Micaela - the guys outnumbered us! but speaking for myself and Claire, I know that if Jay had directly looked at us or spoke to us we would have gone "ummm...ummmmm....." Claire, I KNOW you would have been the same as me during the gig! I'm sure it's the same for Micaela, so I speak for all - we were 3 women representing the Jamily - what we will do to hear the music - well, if it involves travelling to a gig without tickets, we'll do it!
back to the point...this woman, after the gig had finished, the Jamily were milling around - I know I was trying to talk to David or Sharon, but they were surrounded - suddenly - this woman - she hauled herself over the metal barrier (seperating the stage from the crowd) - she jumped onto the stage (i thought she was going for a set-list) - BUT....she jumped onto the stage and ran to grab one of Jay's towels (lol Carly...hope you didn't do that!)
Quotation from Steve "she was pathetic...may as well as been a Take That gig...it's not a F***ing boy band"
but...this woman jumped onto the stage...she grabbed a towel, then was hauled away by a security guard - he tried to catch her when she leapt over the barrier - he caught her onstage, then marched her away...
okay...in my opinion, totally humiliating.....it was embarrassing to watch
Quote from Steve (steffenfunk) "I felt that and I'm not even a f***ing woman"
okay...ladies.....the point is..I know NONE of us would do this - we're not here for this reason - I feel in some ways our sexuality is against us...next gig, I'm going as STAN!
Meike, your input would be appreciate on this too

I am not really sure what you wanna hear from me, Jan... lol
I just wanna remind you how we were all hanging on Jay's shoe after lovebox at the funkin party... sniffing the last whiff of Mr.Kay's odour.
... let's face it: we are all groupies.

From wikipedia, very very interesting...

"Groupies"
A groupie is a person who, while she/he may be a fan on some level, seeks intimacy (most often physical, sometimes emotional) with a famous person.
Groupie is derived from group, meaning a musical band, but now has more general application. The term "groupie" is often, although by no means always, used derogatorily.
The techniques used by groupies to get close to their targets vary almost as much as the groupies themselves. Certainly, female groupies can wear clothing that highlights their physical attributes — or remove clothing, for that matter. Sometimes their availability and dogged persistence at pursuing their lust object are enough.
Female groupies in particular are known for a long-standing tradition of being available for sexual intercourse with celebrities, rock stars, professional athletes, politicians, and other public figures regardless of the fact that the objects of their obsession may already be married with children, or otherwise already in a committed relationship. There are other male dominated professions and occupations that appear to attract groupies as well, such as law enforcement and firefighters (especially after 9/11[1]), the military (these women are sometimes referred to as "Allotment Annies", "debs", or camp followers)[2], preachers and ministers. Even convicted criminals sometimes have followers.
Some groupies go so far as to create an imaginary world wherein they would be the replacements for their targets’ primary relationships (marrying them, or at least becoming their "road wife"), with some making themselves available to any famous celebrity (any rock band that rolls into town), while others focus closely on one particular target (and becoming a "regular").
While perhaps only a small number of groupies are truly promiscuous in that they are willing to trade sexual favors for attention (and often expensive gifts), the tradition of "rock and roll groupies" continues to the present day, contributing to the image of the rock-and-roll lifestyle as one where sex and drugs are readily available at any time. |

but I also remember my "desire" for Jamiroquai started with the music... without any picture of Jay or the band....it just happened..later..that I think that Jay is..just.... you know...what I mean... _________________

Jan, you don't take me serious, do you? I am kidding!! No need to justify yourself!!!
Seriously, for me it's clear that we are here for the music, the jamily, the atmosphere, the good vibes, the nice personalities behind the instruments, the fun, the passion for the whole phenomenon called Jamiroquai.
My intention has never been to attract Jay (or any other bandmember). Of course it is interesting to catch them after a gig and talk to them, especially because they are so down to earth and became something like "friends" meanwhile. But I am not interested in Jay's sweaty towles or used water bottles and I am not interested to see his bedroom ... but it's funny to make jokes about it (like the sniffing at the shoe). I am not even interested in having autographs or pictures with Jay or the bandmembers. I enjoy when I meet them and talk to them but I don't feel comfortable to ask for pics and signed items. But that's just me. I can understand that people are collecting such memorabilias - but for me it is not important.
I get your point you mentioned in your first post... the difference between a Jamiroquai fan and a Jayophile.
For the male fans it is easier being a dedicated fan because there is no doubt for what they are there - the music. When a woman is travelling around Europe to see the band it could lead to misunderstandings.
But here - between ourselves - we know our true motivations.

sorry Meike, I was soooooooooooo defensive! I took your comment the wrong way...I was like "noooooooooo, I didn't want jay's smell"
Carly brought me jay's towel from the Jazz Cafe.....She was like "oh babe, i was soooooooo sad you weren't with it...i got this for you" - she could have brought a mike, same meaning - it was the prinicple! btw. you think I can sale the towel on ebay???!!!!!
Meike, I just think it's hard for a woman - and Mrs Moon, I DO think maybe my initial phase started with TWM, then I saw Jay and thought "whoooaaaaaahhhh" - but with you, I know this all turns to something different.
It's hard to be woman in this world.
