It's very annoying that the European release is not until March - I was going to get one for the kids for Christmas _________________

i think, the people who donate money are the crazy ones. the guys smashing the stuff are pretty smart. who's checking how much money is donated? they update their webpage themself. so what if they only put every third dollar on their page? they say, they need $ 600 but in reality make $ 1800...
audrey, i am soooo with you! i already had november 16th and 17th off work, because i was planning to camp in front of the store to ensure to get one and now i have to wait another five month. the only good thing about it is, that we don't get the beta-babies and japan and the us will test-run the production for us. after all the first production of the xbox360 basically went up in smoke and microsoft is still busy replacing them all over the world |

The really funny thing is that Sony make a loss on each one they sell. It's only when the games start selling that they really make any money _________________ THE OPPOSITE OF LOVE IS NOT HATE. IT'S INDIFFERENCE.

not quite right, max.
the 8. cpu is constantly reserved for the GUI of the ps3. you can exit the games by a click of a button and return to the main menu of the console.
3% of the cpu-power of the xbox360 are constantly reserved for the GUI of the console and each game has to give up up to 10% of the cpu power whenever the main system asks for it. so again, it's the same as with the ps3. not sure about the wii at the moment as it isn't as close to a 'real' computer as the ps3 and the xbox360
and saying that the ps3 has 8 cpus and you can build your own game computer if you know how is a bit over-simplified. the cpus of the ps3 (and all the other consoles) are really stripped down and can basically only do one thing - work with the game-code. but they can do this really good and know what they are doing. consoles are basically dedicated machines and have only one purpose. when you build your own computer you have to set up everything, a console gives you the pleasure just to pop in the game and start playing. no worried about graphic card drivers, no worries if the game is compatible with your current OS (unless you have a microsoft-console. they managed to move 'patches' and 'updates' from computers to consoles)
and funkmonkey, EVERY console is supported by it's manufactor. sony looses about $200 with each console, M$ about the same amount of money (probably more). Software sells hardware...
the only big exception to the rule is the Wii. It's not supported by Nintendo, they make money with the first console sold. But then again, Nintendo is not aiming for market leader anymore but address a completely different audience with the Wii. and it works. a lot of people who have never considered consolegaming as an option for them will go out and buy a Wii. so nintendo will probably win the battle for 'secondary console'

sonys ps3 has many problems
one of it is with a diode
in my opinion they have to redesign the board of it _________________ maxud braucht funk food denn dann bleibt maxud maxud

they couldn't produce the blue diode for the blu-ray laser fast enough, that's true, but apparently they have managed to outcome the production problems and are now back to speed with the production of those little blue lights and are able to ship 70.000 consoles a week to japan and the us.
the software-problem that the ps3 is not able to upscale 720p games to 1080i/p will be resolved in one of the next firmware-updates.
what other problems do they have with the ps3?
and re-design the board? to do what? release the ps3.5?
look at M$! they are most likely to release an updated xbox360 with their hd-dvd drive build in. to me that looks like they are once again uncomfortable with the product sony offers. when they released the optional hd-dvd-drive for the xbox360 they said it is not going to be used for any game content, but apparently developers are already looking into using the hd-drive for games. if this happens, people who've bought the original xbox360 will have a problem. they will have to spend another £ 200 on an hd-dvd-drive or will not be able to play those games. and M$ has proven before that they don't really care about their games compability. there are at least two games out that definitly need the HD of the 360, so can't be played on the core version. plus they said the 360 would be fully backwards compatible. well, it is, but ONLY if you buy the option HD or the premium version that has the HD. and you have to download an emulator in order to play original xbox games. and yes, sony's ps3 is not fully backwards compatible as they originally stated. about 200 games out of the 8000 games that the back catalogue offers are not playing properly on the ps3. and sony already released a software update that fixes most of them.
nintendo america just had to pull a firmware update for the Wii (2 days after the official release!!! now that's what i call quality assurance! first a firmware update not even 48 hours after the initial release of a brand new console and then it funks up your console!) because it fried the console and made it unusable. they offer a replacement service that takes up to 4 days to get a brand new Wii or - if you've already downloaded virtual console content to your console - a repair service that takes up to 14 days. waiting for it and not being able to play? not what i want to do after i just dished out $250 for a new toy! oh, and apparently the wrist-band of the wii-remote is not as stable as originaly thought. it has the tendency to snap and with a bit of luck smashes your tv (can't find the link at the moment, but will try to look it up later)
so you see, all the next gen consoles have their problems but i am yet waiting for a fatal report of a ps3
don't get me wrong here, i am going to buy the xbox360 one day. just waiting for a price drop as i don't think it is worth the money that M$ is asking for it at the moment... |

Yeah, i hear what you're saying. I reckon Sony's marketing strategy has been awful for the PS3. I've had a 360 since about they came out and several games have been pretty impressive. Ghost Recon, PGR3, COD 2 and 3 and Gears Of War is brilliant, however there's not enough good software at the moment. Several games have been awful like The Godfather (good on ps2 and xbox) PES6 (good game but PS2 has MILES more content). _________________ THE OPPOSITE OF LOVE IS NOT HATE. IT'S INDIFFERENCE.
