Twenty Zero Six in rewind....*interactive topic*
I wanted to make this topic at the end of the year, and since today is the first day of December, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to do so
Instead of doing a winter theme song (or summer for some of you), what is your 2006 theme song? I'll let you choose up to 3, because I know picking 1 is hard!
What are some cool experiences, places you went, and/or dope people you met?
How about highlights and accomplishments, milestones..blah, blah, blah...all that feel good stuff?
It isn't so much to brag about yourself (well, kind of ), but also a reflective look back at the past 335 days.
Enjoy and don't feel the need to answer them all - just have fun.
Time keeps ticking away _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Oh interesting. Let me think...
'Club Sashay', Leon Ware. I think is the most catchy song I heard this year. I absolutely adore it.
'My Cherie Amour', Stevie Wonder. Brought me back some old memories recently. I love that song. Is the ultimate love song.
'Evil Woman', Electric Light Orchestra. I heard it on the radio early this year, and I discovered that my dad had it on LP. Is a great song, and it made me go look for more old music... again.
Bonus songs (sorry Deesh I can't choose only 3)
'Radio', Jamiroquai. I had it on my mind sooo much time that it wouldn't be fair if this song wasn't here.
'SodaStereo', by Soda Stereo. The entire album. An old argentinean band lead by mr Gustavo Cerati. Is SUCH an amazing record, I heard it a lot this year.
'Dinorah, Dinorah', George Benson. Is the whole album, actually, but I pick up this one cause is the first one that poped into my head.
'What Goes Up', Alan Parsons Project. Early this year too.
'The Great Gig In The Sky / Breathe The Air', Pink Floyd. I'm not a big fan of Pink Floyd, mainly because I still didn't have the chance to sit down and listen their whole work, but I did hear 'Dark Side Of The Moon' many times this year.
OK, that's not it, but I can't be here all day

I'm in a hurry so I'll make it short. And to make it easy I've limited myself to Jamiroquai songs.
My first theme song is Too Young To Die because I'm 35 now and I'll be 36 in January. 2006 was the year I came closer to being 40 than 30. Scary thought.
My second theme song is Stillness In Time because being a father of two lovely daughters is wonderful, but also very time and energy consuming. Sometimes I wish for that stillness in time parents rarely get.
My third theme song is Travelling Without Moving because that's how I've felt about work for the past year. But luckily things have started to change now and I'm optimistic about the future. _________________ Old school forever! |

*I Am by Kindred (discovery of myself and womanhood)
*Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder (birth of my beautiful niece)
*Stilness In Time by Jamiroquai (describes my summer)

Here goes Deesh, you know that Soul Education will be my anthem forever!! But the other 3 for me in 2006 have been:
Use The Force
Discovering my strengths this year has taken me aback, what a wonderful experience it has been (and continues to be).
Home - Michael Buble
It speaks volumes!!!!! I miss home and am going back for good in less than 2 months from now. I think that Lovebox made me realise what a great town London actually is (terrorism and cra*p public transport aside), and I do wonder why the f*ck I left!!!!!!!!
September
I think this was played at the party. It brings back such strong and lovely memories of our time in London ("Quick, quick...front row, RUN RUN" and the distant cries of Romain screaming "Allez Anna....RUN!")
Am sure there are plenty more, but these are the 3 which stand out the most

Hmmm. Of course for me the best bit of the year is going to start in one week and about ten hours, when I touch down in Buenos Aires. So really this review won't be complete. But anyway.
Songs...
If I Like It I Do It - Jamiroquai played this for the first time in 13 years at Lovebox! About two weeks after I graduated from uni! Can one summer get any better?!
Summertime by Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. When spun by DJ Trafford Lovething. Deesha knows why! The start of a great few weeks of Jamily discovery.
Joyous by Pleasure... I have a feeling that now I've discovered it, this song's going to be one of my three chosen songs for EVERY year!
Cool experiences, people and so forth
Well, Deesh, obviously - glad you liked Manchester! All of the other Jamily as well, of course. Jan especially, it was good to see you properly (twice!) after the rather addled version of you we saw following B'ham gig last year!
Meeting Derrick was nice... making a bit of a tit of myself to Paul slightly less so. And getting my WYGL and ROTSC covers signed (by Jay and Derrick respectively)! What topped ALL of this though, obviously - and all the hardcore fans will understand this - was meeting David Rowe. Never mind the band, Mr. Funkin is the best reason there is to be a part of this wonderful community!
That's all the Jamiroquai stuff out the way. Other great things were finally becoming a published author (first of a short story and then, more recently, having my weekly Argentine football column accepted by an excellent website), spending a week in Budapest just before Easter, and doing a hell of a lot of reading.
Oh and I think I mentioned I graduated from uni somewhere in amidst all that. The only thing missing was a long summer holiday, really... hang on, I'm about to have that!

well 2006 was for me the year of my "outing" with the Jamily, I started last year (2005) on Jamirox and the old italian fan..but this year I've really exposed mysefl and must say..it was great fun..and I meet very loving ppl..plus some special stars of my heart ( you know who you are)!
so my first song of the year is TIME WON'T WAIT mainly 'cause it was not on my cd version so I got it after the concert here in my city x the olympic games while ppl realized I didn't know it and it got my soul immediatly.
thare are many others song's that for me where new this year: Wolf in.., Space Clav, ufff... basically all those that were not on regular cds!!!
but there is another one that really stoled my heart even if it's "OLD":
DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU'RE CAMING FROM.. this song touches something deep inside of me..and I remember me writing to derrick on myspace like If I had found something rare like a pearl ( to me it is ) and he answering: " oh yes.that's a old thing we've done!! ..welll. I thought...you should keep doing "old" things!!
3rd is not Jamiroquai, is GASLIGHTING ABBIE...steely dan, and one of my new jamily friend gave me ( Ste my music pusher...just yesterday he was giving me Chick Corea videos to watch!!), is a great song..and I love it!
bt there is a 4th one ( sorry Deesh)!
is STICHED UP Herbie Hancock ft John Mayer...it was my profile song on myspace for ages..and every time I listen to that something inside my belly start to thrill of joy!!
musically talking it was the best year ever x me!!
THANKS JAMILY X THAT

okay...can't do 3 yet....
My songs that are gonna remind me of 2006....
My "own experience" - "travelling without moving" - hearing it live 3 times...the 3rd was mental, absolutely mad (mean fiddler), I don't think I ever appreciated this song until this year. It's everything that Jamiroquai do best, it's gonna remind me of 2006.
My "family" song from 2006, is "America" Razorlight, it reminds me of my kids - they sing along - it reminds me of cooking in the kitchen and my kids swtiching the cd back to track 4 (i think :S), it's an track
that's brought something back to my family. and watching them perform it live on the greatest hits thing tonight, well.....it made me think of my girls.
and now another, which actually makes me puke! "you give me something" James Morrison - it reminds me of the days when I first met Steve and we started falling in shite, in the spring of our relationship, now it's turning winter, we're still mates, but .....well...thanks for the year Steveoooooo, and everythings gonna be okay, it's just learning and moving on, stay golden
oops I did 3?
Roll on Jamiroquai with recharged batteries*
