WEIRD Christmas Albums Topic!
Hello,
Well, during the holidays, I was looking around, just to kill my quelling curiosity, for some great Christmas to buy for myself to ring in the holidays. And upon ALOT of inquiry searches online, I came across some odd, weird and utterly fascinating Christmas albums from over the years. So I thought, since they are so amazing...and in some cases EXTREMELY embarrassing, I would highlight them in a new topic, so here they are...some oldies but goodies, some current releases and ALOT of "odds and ends"....
CURRENT CHRISTMAS ALBUM HIGHLIGHT
BOOTSY COLLINS - CHRISTMAS IS 4 EVER
JAMIROFAN THOUGHTS: AMAZING P-Funkified Christmas Album...A MUST BUY!
WRITE-UP ABOUT IT:
Funk legend Bootsy Collins spices up Christmas time with his first holiday album, Bootsy Collins: Christmas Is 4 Ever, a newly recorded CD from Shout! Factory that mixes four new recordings and nine "Bootsyized" yuletide classics. Bootsy puts his funky touch to popular Christmas favorites "Jingle Belz (aka Jingle bells)," "Chestnutz (aka The Christmas Song)," "Winterfunkyland (aka Winter Wonderland)" and "Dis-christmiss (aka This Christmas)," originally written and recorded by Donny Hathaway. Bootsy is joined by Snoop Dogg, who raps on the new "Happy Holidaze," and Charlie Daniels on fiddle and background vocals for the classic "Sleigh Ride" (which also features vocals by Ohio Players lead singer Sugarfoot). Additional notable guests include Fred Wesley and other former James Brown collaborators MC Danny Ray and Bobby Byrd, as well as former Parliament/Funkadelic members Blackbyrd McKnight and Bernie Worrell. The CD also features holiday greetings from Buckethead and Roger Troutman as well as a message from Bishop Don Magic Juan.
WEIRD AND ODD CHRISTMAS HIGHLIGHTS
CHRISTMAS IN THE STARS - STAR WARS CHRISTMAS ALBUM
JAMIROFAN'S THOUGHTS: A VERY funny and inspired Christmas album featuring the voices of droids C-3PO & R2-D2 and Chewbacca the Wookiee and a number of other droids singing "Star Wars" Christmas Songs!
WRITE-UP ABOUT IT:
Christmas in the Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album was an album produced originally in 1980 by the former RSO records. The album featured Star Wars themed Christmas songs, with members of the original cast of the first released Star Wars film, A New Hope. The album was produced by Meco Monardo ("Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band"), with Anthony Daniels voicing C-3PO and Ben Burtt providing the sounds for R2-D2 and Chewbacca. Christmas in the Stars was recorded in 1980, two years after The Star Wars Holiday Special aired. Though they share the same themes, they have no connection other than the fact that they were both marketed in conjunction with the holiday season.
A PAC-MAN CHRISTMAS ALBUM
JAMIROFAN'S THOUGHTS: Probably the funniest and most awfully bad out of print Christmas album I have EVER heard! Makes "A Brady Bunch Christmas" album MORE listenable
WRITE-UP ABOUT IT:
A children's Christmas album that was released in 1981 to coincide with the popular arcade game by Kid Stuff Records. The only thing I could find about Kid Stuff Records is that it was active between 1982-1984 and put out about a dozen or so of these albums based on popular video games of the day (Asteroids / Yars’ Revenge / Missle Command / Donkey Kong).
There you go, check these albums out when you can, they are indeed very funny! Thanks for listening and Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
