Why the commitent?
Emotions
The songs, memories, the joy of a concert and the energy you get from the music/performance
I will never forget the day i saw this strange name in the CD rack of a friend.
Naggin him to play this....jamiroquai?
Waiting for space cowboy to come out.....
Like Doesman said, they have songs for all moods.
And when you are fan for such a long time, the music is like a part of your life. Think we all have special memories with certain songs.
The concert thing, why travel miles?
The buzz you get from a gig...would not wanna miss it!
(not even when it scares me to death sometimes, big crowds...right Jan?) _________________ May you always feel the wind on your face and the waves on your toes |

goood question deesh !!
and I love your answers you have given already !!
but I ´ve got somehting more to add to...
Jamiroquai is the one and only band where every single song on each album is just...amazing
for me , this is somehting which never happened before...or after I recognize Jamiroquai !! there isn´t any work from any other band..which I enjoyed that much ..(and Jamirquai had done a lot of stuff... albums... like you know )
they brought back my love to music...!!!
and their music just makes me feel good...
like freaky said : emotions
:
Jamiroquai was my first looooooove...and it will be my laaaaaaast....
there is somehtin special about Jamiroquai !! don´t ask me what..but ... it was like a "flesh into my soul " after recognizing them _________________

JGRIZZ SAYS
I like the way you put the question Deesh....and I think I would have to think about the answer a lot. But I try to get into other bands he same way as I have gotten into JMQ, but there really isn't any substitution or replacement for them ...
I will list my reasons because there are so many !!!
1. the fantastic bootlegs (live concerts)
2. Jay's unbelieveable charachter that keeps everyone on thier toes.
3. obviously the superiorly recorded music (their is something about the way their songs are produced, mixed down, and effects)
4. the availability of old/new downloads on a (almost) daily basis.
5. the Jamily
6. always something new, so I don't get sick of them
7. the videos
8. still being an un-spoiled overprocessed band (US)
9. huge catalog os the best remixes around
10. still make vinyl records
there are soooo many more but I need to go to sleep now
peace

WARNING: THIS IS LONG...sorry!
These are great answers, and someone said emotions or emotional...does that have to do with the songs being connected to memories or the songs themselves?
I had to think before answering this, because as I say to Claudia every so often when we talk about the band...'how did we get here'? I just don't know sometimes. Unfortunately, I am obsessive by nature though...
Like all of you, I dig the music and although there are bands out there that are equal or better - there aren't many of my generation, but Jamiroquai just so happens to be. The music just caught me at the right time, per se. The early recordings are damn near flawless and as I get older and listen with more mature ears, I always find something new to make me dig them all over again.
I lost a bit of faith after Woodstock...Then I realized it's whatever - I'm married to the music, not the people who make the music, I used to be online all the time and really into everything, and then I was taking it all a bit too seriously
Honestly, for the past 2 years, I've been so committed because other things in my life have challenged me and my energy was going towards negative things and people. When I had to find a substitute for that, I turned back to the music of Jamiroquai and invested my energy towards them. Those people and things I was running from aren't into this band, so I knew they wouldn't infiltrate this part of my life - sounds crazy, but true...haha! I needed to submerse myself into something else that wasn't stressful as everything else.
Like Rene, I don't go crazy for collecting things. Despite travelling to London for Lovebox, I'm broke as hell and struggle from paycheck to paycheck..but Lovebox was about letting go and just doing something spontaneous with Claudia and Chena. As far as spending money on concerts here...the 4 I went to in 2005 were relatively cheap and near me. I love the band, but I can't fathom spending crazy money on such things as Ebay and such. I just don't have it to spend.
I often question my sanity over this band - like...am I for real? Standing in line for hours in the freezing cold to be up front. ! When you think about it, it really is insanity. But outside of those 2 hours, I work and I work hard, as many fans do. We all quest to find our spirituality, sexuality, and ourselves all year around and to just stop and have 2 hours where we don't have to worry about those things...I'll take it!
And even though I don't have that much in common with the Jamily, I enjoy being a part of it and have met some really, really awesome people through it. It often comes across as a high school clique of popular kids, which I think is funny...but the common thread is the band's music, which is cool.
From what I know of the band members, they are all very sweet and nice - which also makes for a good fan-band relationship. The Jamiroquai concert experience is also very enjoyable. I think that has to do with the people I'm with and my familiarity with music.
Jamiroquai is just 'my thing' to distract me from the other things. It's pretty simple, I suppose.

it wasn't that long deesh
i have both relation with jamiroquai and emotions. some songs (the most) make me feel great emotions because of the songs, and some of them (the less) have relation with emotions of particular moment in my life. _________________

No band has EVER touched me the way Jamiroquai has. The only way i can try describing it is, Jamiroquai & i are a perfect fit. There are no compromises, i just love EVERYTHING they do (ok, one compromise - they could come to Australia more often).
Whenever Jamiroquai came to town, i missed out because nobody wanted to come and of course, i was dumb enough to accept that i was just going to miss out. Until their Dynamite Tour in 2005... i was once again let down by others who decided not to go at the last minute, but this time i had decided that come rain, hail or shine - i was going to be there! Needless to say i have never regretted that decision, although i do have regrets about not going to the other gigs on my own now. Still, you can't turn back the clock, as they say.
Now, my housemate calls out to me whenever he sees or hears the boys and even goes about the house singing Jamiroquai songs. Sometimes he can even be seen sitting on the couch watching a dvd with me, HA!
So, for those of you who are still not sure - I LURRVVE JAMIROQUAI _________________ 'BOINGGGG', said Zebedee... |

Maybe longer than Deesh
Well.. yes it is kinda interesting. I take pretty much everything each one of you wrote.
For me, its a combination of things. Jamiroquai, in my case, is not only the music (which I'll take later), but the look, the image of the band. I study graphic design, I just love when I see something nice to look at, something artistic. Jamiroquai has everything. The name, the logo, the album artworks, the hats. The style and the themes around the band and the music. That describes an IMAGE. That image is so important for something or someone, and specially a band. This band, the band that choose me with 'Supersonic' and that mind-blowing video when I was 12 years old, reunites something that most bands out there doesn't have. Jamiroquai is special for me in that aspect.
The music itself is perfect. And it linked me with the music I really think is M-U-S-I-C, the 70's acid jazz, soul funk and disco movements that brought all those musicians that I listen to now, besides JMQ.
What can I say? The music is beautiful, I wouldn't be here without the music. Doesn't matter how good the image of the band is. The music of Jamiroquai identifies me the best.
And then is, of course, all the people that surrounds me that are Jamiroquai fans like I am. When I think about it, nearly 70% the people I usually talk (via personal, chat, forums, etc) are related to Jamiroquai somehow. I don't know how crazy is that for a normal person haha but it is.
I think that enthusiasm increased even more when I saw them live (only this year!), they are really unique, their music touches me, I had goosebumps the entire night, and I even cried a little bit I spent 10 hours outside before they opened the doors...don't know how all that is called, but I really don't care; if you like it, you do it, right??
So, to sum up, Jamiroquai are a special part of me, and it's a part that keeps beating beside me as I walk through the paths of life (wow I even believed that myself! )

it wasn't longer
i also love the buffaloman since the first time i saw it, on the cover of TWM, i was amazed by the whole desgin on that cd, a ferrari motor with jamiroquai word wrote on it, a band floating in the space sitting in wc-like seats ( )......the buffaloman with different background colours, i though that that logo fit everywhere..and later when i discovered everything else i confirmed it was really a cool style band, the logo really fits everywhere, the videos i saw amazed me, the movements by jay, the clothening...... _________________

Yes all of these things Dyego, and Inaki ....these are the wonderful things we share with JMQ.......
I was just blown away by the first two albums that someone shared with me (borrowed) at a local show.....back in '95.
1995 was a kind of turning point year for me and my friends and it's was the timing that really made finding out about this band that changed everything musically for me.
Jerry Garcia died that year. I was following the Grateful Dead at the time.
I had tickets to thier show right before he died, then they were sent back to me with a euology.
Then another blow was Brad Nowell died (Sublime) that year.
that was also the same year that I moved out of LA for northern California.
I also met my wifey that year.
it was just timing that really did it (for me) as far as a great substitution for all this other music that was influecing me at the time.
I always liked disco, funk, and dance music,
but Jamiroquai had it all.
ok I'm done rambling... |

Because even when JK and the boys make a crap record, it's still beats half of what's considered 'popular.' I'll always be in their corner. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It really does. Re: Why are you still committed?
| deesh wrote: |
Yesterday, I was talking to one of the girls about commitment and how when you commit yourself to someone or something, you invest in it. Whether that investment is time, finances, emotions or physical, it is *usually* something that you enjoy to the point where those sacrifices and investments are worth it. We then made a list of things/people we are committed to and Jamiroquai was on my list.
She didn't understand how or why the band made the list or why I am so faithful to them. I gave them an assigment of picking one thing on their list and explain why they are so committed to the person/thing.
So it got me thinking...why are you so committed or faithful to Jamiroquai?
So many fans have dropped off over their 15 year career span and still you (we) are here. What keeps you checking Funkin and Jamirotalk daily for news? What makes you travel to other countries to see them perform or spend ridiculous amounts of money on merchandise and music?
Honestly, through all the changes, why are you still around? What is it that keeps you so committed?

the music makes me feel fantastic,no matter how bad i may feel!
i've been a fan for about 9-10 years and many people(my mum especially lol)have asked me how come i don't grow bored of it?the thing is you can't get bored of something you love! |

Im 33 this year and first time I saw them live was about 1993... Im still commited cause...
When they first broke onto the scene there was alot of rave music and stuff like stone roses/Happy Mondays and they were totally different and fresh
Ive seen them a number of times.. and they are always fantastic live - best band ive seen live infact
Ive grown up with them! their albums reflect the years (and quite spooky, my life!)..
I love the way their/his lyrics can have so much meaning, including love, but have a funky tune... so no slushy lovey dovey crap (even their slow tracks have class and something different)
The tracks are upbeat and have a feel good factor about them
They (and members in the past) are extremely talented musicians and you can see they love what they do
I like how the band members are down to earth and take time out to chat to fans
And finally... I cant wait to see what they/he does next and thats how ive always felt... always waiting for the next album (can still do that after 14 years!)
