Don't generalize, Ed, I'm sorry about the situation in Venezuela but I love where I live and I wouldn't like to move somewhere else. Not even the States. _________________ We're going to a funktion yeah yeah yeah |

Old thread... but I found it now and thought it was interesting. Sweden, together with the UK and Denmark are the only EU countries (except for the new member countries) that haven't bought the idea of the Euro. We still keep our national currencies, in Sweden it's Swedish Krona (Crown) aka SEK.
Today 100 SEK = $14.30 or €11.02 or £7.26
In Sweden like in many countries it's not uncommon that the man earn much more than the woman. But the average monthly wages is about 24000 SEK, both men and women included. Some earn 15000 SEK (I think that's lowest salary regulated by law) and some earn 44000 SEK or more. Some high profile executives can earn 1000000 (1 million!) each month including bonuses. That's the way it is.
This is what we earn before taxes. The average tax is 32%. So what you get every month is 78% of your actual wages.
The general VAT on goods and services is 25%. But some things such as groceries have 12% VAT and books, newspapers and tickets to museums have 6% VAT.
Certain things such as petrol and diesel is taxed separately. But on top of that you pay 25% VAT. So when you fill up your car you pay taxes on taxes. Government regulated theft!
I'll give you some examples of what things may cost here today:
1 pizza 40-60 SEK
1 beer at a pub 30 SEK for a bottle, 40-50 SEK for a 0.5 litre glass
1 drink at a pub 70-110 SEK
Entrance to disco 100 SEK
1 CD 189 SEK
1 DVD 289 SEK
1 CD-R 5 SEK
1 DVD-R 15 SEK
20 cigarettes 40 SEK
Tickets for a single concert 350-495 SEK
Ticket for a 3-4 day festival approximately 1500 SEK
Adidas/Nike/Puma shoes between 600 and 1500 SEK depending on model
Petrol between 10 and 13 SEK, today's price is 10.50 SEK
Postage one CD to Europe 40 SEK, to rest of the world 50 SEK. Add another 65-95 SEK for registration depending on the value of the CD.
Bus single ticket one way within city limits 20 SEK
Kindergarten fee for 1 child 1250 SEK/month
Car insurance for a BMW 523iM is 7500 SEK to +20000 SEK per year depending on age, accident history, years with driver's license, location and type of insurance.
This should give you an idea of how it's like living in Sweden strictly based on economic and financial conditions.
Edit: Perhaps I should mention that where I live a house for a 3-4 person family costs anything between 2-3 million to buy depending on age, condition and location. That's a normal house. Luxury houses costs more. If you buy a house located far from the city you could get one for 1-2 million instead. The rent for an apartment with a size of 100 sq. metres is between 6000-10000 SEK/month depending on standard and location. _________________ Old school forever! |

this is very interesting topic.. I'll add my two cents, things have changed a little bit since Flor wrote her post
1 EUR = 4 pesos
1 GBP = 6 pesos
1 USD = 3 pesos (all of these rates are aproximately)
for example:
1 original cd (recently released) = 32 pesos = 8 EUR = 10.7 USD
1 original dvd (recently released) = 50 pesos = 12.5 EUR = 16.7 USD
a 600 ml Coke = 2 pesos = 0.5 EUR = 0.7 USD
a 1 litre beer = 3.5 pesos = 0.875 EUR = 1.17 USD
entrance to a disco = 15-25 pesos = 3.75-6.25 EUR = 5-8 USD
ticket of the subway = 0.70 pesos = 0.175 EUR = 0.23 USD
a lollipop = 0.25 pesos = 0.06 EUR = 0.08 USD
ticket for Jamiroquai = 80 pesos = 20 EUR ! = 26 USD
as Flor said, if you come here either with EUR, GBP or USD, life will cost you nothing! but for us, life here is not very cheap
before 2001 the rate was 1 peso = 1 USD, now it's 3 pesos = 1 USD |

ok
well for me the world is a little bit more expensive sometimes
i earn 438 euros for 160 hours a moth (im an apprentice)
i have to pay for my flat 200 euros
sometimes i get some money from my mother (150 euros in 2 month =75 euros 1 month)
for energy i pay 26 euros a month
for food and drink i pay hmm sometimes more sometimes less
i try to live on the minnimum like 30 euros a week (i drink only tea because i cant pay for soo much water)
thats 120 euros
and i pay for internet round about 30 euros a month
thats the minnimum for me to live so if we calculate for one month:
438 euros
+ 75 euros
- 26 euros
- 200 euros
- 120 euros
- 30 euros for internet
__________
137 (euros for me with the minnimum to live)
a dvd costs 19 euros
a new cd 15 euros (i think)
a old cd like trotsc 8 euro
and 17 cigarettes cost 4 euros
and ive frogotten i drive all 2 weeks to my partens (someone hast to wash my my clothes^^) thats 80 euros by train a month
at the end i have 57 euros for me
but i learned to survive and to get more money after a month (round about 110 euro)
i hope nobody cant understand me why i love the song "scam"
(i know how to betray the german trains and many other things^^)
and of course i have no car. i ride my bike its not old but a little bit damaged often i have some problems with my brakes and if i dont pay attention with the police (but that isnt happened till now^^)
so thats how i live i dont want to know how rich iam or how much money other people earn i only keep my eye on my money _________________ maxud braucht funk food denn dann bleibt maxud maxud
