well I gotta say that I haven't really been bullied but I knew a lot of people who did get bullied and I always leaped in defence (as Jan put it so nicely).

Off course people made fun of me from time to time but it wasn't ongoing and just temporarily. Maybe they did bully me without me knowing it but it never really bothered me. I've always been a very easy going person who can get along with anyone.

Anyway back in the schooldays I did have a couple of friends who were being bullied a lot so I know what you guys are talking about, one of them was a typical nerd (I don't like calling hem that way but it best describes him) and he is still one of my best friends and has turned out allright.

cheers
René

i always been the smallest one in the classroom. in any classroom. in any team. everywhere. i had an incredible delay in my growth. i was very very tiny so i was always the target for big dumbs, but i never cared about it.
when all my friends and people around were becoming "mans" i still was a child, and those were the hardest times, but i knew my time would come so i never had so much problems with that.

in jamiroquai online tribe, i felt like with friends from the first time.
i dind't know how to express myself in english, and i wasn't a "jamiroquai expert" like jan points.
i was just another fan who love jamiroquai and want to share with other fans. just like now. Wink

here's a pic of my football team in 96, when we got 13-14 years old.
notice the size of my legs and arms when comparing to other's.
i never met a girl till i was 20. i was always the nice and cute boy...but always a boy.

p.d funny pic huh? like a hobbit around humans Laughing Posted image has been reduced in size. Size of original image (362377 KB) is 800 x 548 pixels. Click image to view full size and better quality!

Hey Jan, added u to my msn =D. Will be nice to chatt with u again.

In school I was bullied coz, I am not very sociable (we can tell), so I was like the freaky girl who likes Jamiroquai (coz that's all they knew from me: That I like Jamiroquai). But as they didnt knew me at all, they didnt have much to say. I have my friends, who know me and like me, and thats all it matters to me. Of curse its boders that the others bullied, but it was confortable to have friends... anyway, none of them could really understood my (funky) feeling bout Jamiroquai, so here and JTalk was absolutly Planet Home ! .

Keep groovin' funky souls !

Interesting topic.

Am I the only one who hasn't been bullied?? Oh well... my young years were the best for me, I can't complain in a million years. I've been in the same place for kinder, primary and secondary school and I spent all those years with the same fantastic people, who some of them still join me through this years.

The 3 years of secondary school, we used to vote for the best friend between us (institutional things), and I won the first 2 years, and the 3rd one in second place (beaten by MY best female friend , who I voted Very Happy ), so I won a medal for that. Is the kind of things that make me feel proud. I'm a very friendly person, and I try to make feel cosy the one next to me. So I can't complain about any of that!

I was also the 'he likes Jamiroquai' in the classroom, and so when I joined here, I could express myself in the 'jamiroquai language' I developed all those years, finally people to talk about who has the same feelings about this music and the music in general.
I feel so comfortable, that I honestly can't imagine my life without being here, or talking to any other jamiroquai fan. I can't! You're all inevitably part of my life, and I'm deeply thankful for Very Happy

Nice read from everyone.

D!

people bully out of insecurity- the best way to get them to stop is to take a stand Very Happy

@ Ms P maybe it was the structure of the forum (and how it wasnt taken care of as much) that made it so snarky cause arent alot of the people still here?

There is more reasons, because they are bored, because it is fun...and quite often Because they CAN.
The most i hate about it is the group forming thing.
The bully is not alone but has this crowd of "followers"around him/her.
So taking a stand, i tried it for years but there is NO way to stand up against a whole group of "cows" who follow their leader.
The cows Afraid to take a stand because else they will be the next topic of the bully.

I was bullied when I was in middle school for not caring about my appearance. I was a tomboy. I think that is subconsciously the reason I try to keep my hair so nice now..I don't know.

To tell you the truth - online bullying is ridiculous. I mean as someone said in another topic - there is no need to catch feelings on the internet and I believe that. I think the only time I get passionate about something is when there is some type of injustice going on or correcting a stereotype, besides that I don't really care.

When it comes to this forum, there's no inferior or superior in being a fan babe Wink (in my opinion).

As far as bullying in general - As adults, I don't really care. I don't get bullied, because I know how to cuss someone the hell out, but I don't even do that.

My motto is...if they aren't paying my bills or contributing to my life in a positive way, then I really don't give a shit. They can say whatever they want, and who cares...I don't take to heart the opinions of people that I don't respect.

Great Topic. Jan, you push a lot of good topics in the last times Wink

I was bulled a lot when I was young like almost everybody. Classmates picked me up for my cheap sports attitudes and those were annoying times. It's really sad and seems people accept it like a sort of unavoidable gateway in the life, stuff that can only help you grow up. There's a lot of discussion driven by media on this topic here in italy but I think solution provided by government by laws cannot bring. It's not a matter of laws, it's a matter of school education and punishment should be strong in the right cases but managed by the school not by the law. As far as I know in UK there are a lot of laws agains bullying, maybe somebody here from UK can tell us more about this experience...

I won't even think to JAMIROtalk regarding this topic, we are jamily and I love the feelings of friendship we all share here! Cool

i'm not so sure what's so funny about that. people have seriously suffered from being bullied up to the point that some kids have commited suicide or at least tried to.

sometimes it is true -> If you have nothing nice to say better say nothing! Rolling Eyes

kids just have to open the eyes, and rise the fists against that guys! it used to worked with me, (it was only 2 3 times).
If you don't show fear, they don't do nothing. who's stronger wins. I don't see what is the surprise, after all that happends in the nature, not only with humans! Rolling Eyes

listen emo songs, make kids suicide too Laughing

Sure. In the UK, right now, thanks to the great benevolent leadership of Chairman Blair, there are laws against everything. I give it around 18 months before the air you breathe is taxed in central London. There are laws against bullying, against 'anti-social behaviour', against all sorts of horrible stuff, and kids (teenagers) in this country feel less happy and fulfilled, and more isolated from the older generations than in any other country in Europe (this is according to an EU-wide survey that was talked about in British newspapers two or three weeks ago). We have more alcoholic teenagers, more overweight teenagers, a higher number of sexually transmitted diseases / infections in our young people, a higher level of teenage pregnancy, and less social responsibility apparent in our young people than in anywhere else I've seen.

Basically, us in Britain are MATERIALLY 60 million of the 'luckiest' people in the world, but hardly any of us realise it, as a result of which pretty much everyone feels socially dislocated and unhappy.

And our government thinks that the way around this is to come out with laws governing every little aspect of personal and family life, right down to whether parents are allowed to smack their children if they behave badly. Our government is wrong, as they so often are, and in this case that's because changes like this aren't to do with the law, they're to do with people's attitudes. We've got a pretty good education system in this country (well, I would say that, I was lucky enough to have a good school only a few miles from my home and graduated with a very good grade from a very good university last summer), which teaches us a lot about geography, about our history, about the undeniably high place we've had in the history of world culture and literature, science and so forth. But it teaches us piss all about issues of social responsibility and how to be decent people to each other. That's what governments should concentrate on - educating people better. Never mind just making lots of laws, that won't do anything...

Just my tuppence worth.

Sam

Amazing post Sam, thanks. It's a real hard problem to solve. I think the government is going over his edges and many people just don't mind or don't pay attention to all of this, blinded by the News. The news networks distort the reality sometimes and they must be aware! Confused More focus on the privacy and on the freedom should be kept, freedom isn't only being out of a jail, is a feeling as well.
