Amy Winehouse on drink, weed and soup
I stopped smoking weed about two years ago when I started going to the gym. Because I guess I've written 'Addicted' and it's come out on this album [Back to Black], it would seem like I still smoke and have days where I think, 'Oh, should I buy a quarter?' But it's not even a factor any more. I wrote that song about three years ago.
But my drinking replaced weed. I still have a problem - well, I have had problems with drink but I haven't had a drink in a few days. Is the problem exaggerated in the papers? I don't know ... No. I'm a terrible drunk. I dunno where that comes from - boredom?
'Rehab' came out of the fact that I always have been able to deal with things myself. If you can't look after yourself then no one can. That's what I think. The only place I've ever been to talk about the substance problems I have - whether with alcohol or food - I've never actually spoken to anyone, I've never been consulted. They talk at me, I go, 'Thank you for your time,' then I leave. I just went to please people around me. I went to walk in and walk out. Revolving door syndrome.
But no, God, I didn't drop four dress sizes to size 0. Size 0 is an Americanism, it's not even a real English term. It'd be like a UK size 4, which I've never been. At my smallest I was an American size 2, which is six in the UK. But I was never even a 12, so I dropped two dress sizes. It's a joke. It just makes me laugh when people say things like, 'you were a spokeswoman for curvy girls, and you were a really good role model - and now look at you, you're a state ...'
I'm like, 'What, I used to smoke weed from fucking eight o'clock in the morning till three o'clock in the morning. And when I stopped and started going to the gym I lost a bit of weight and looked better - but I'm a terrible role model?' It's a joke.
Anyway, I think if you're a girl, the best role models are women you know, strong women around you - your best friend, your mum, your nan, your aunties. However someone is portrayed in the media, you don't know them personally. If you latch onto someone, a famous person, to the point where they'll fuck you up and you don't even know them, you're a knob anyway. I eat ridiculously healthily. Just now I'm drinking a carrot, beetroot, celery and ginger throat juice - it's gross. I'm gonna have red poo. But I've got to, I'm not well, I came back from Miami after New Year with a bug.
My boyfriend Alex is a chef, and he can cook anything. But he doesn't cook for me, I cook for him. I do great chicken soup, or meatballs. But West Indian food is probably my best thing. I learnt from my mum, but she stopped cooking when I was quite young, so then I learnt from my grandma. I'm very enthusiastic about it. And Alex is really good because I have someone who I can really make something for and you know they'll appreciate it and they'll give you really good criticism. As I'm cooking things I'll be like, 'When should I put the thing in, baby?' 'Now!'
I love being on tour, and I do tend to look after my voice. One of my crew makes me really nice ginger tea. And Alex always tells me to avoid dairy - I was gonna get a smoothie with yoghurt in it but he told me not to 'cause of my voice.
When I was smoking a lot of weed I didn't have a munchie diet so much as I just ate bad. I'd get up, smoke two big spliffs then be like, 'hmmm, I should eat something ...' So I'd go and have a fry-up. Then I wouldn't eat anything all day. Then I'd eat pasta at two in the morning. Just ridiculous.
I don't know why I was so into spliff. It's a teenager's thing, innit? I can't smoke now 'cause my energy just crashes. I'm a gym girl. I'm not a lazy person any more, I like getting up and going. I'd rather walk somewhere or run somewhere. I'd train every day if I had the chance. On tour I'll try and find a gym locally.

i thought..hmm  ..this name..sounds familiar..until i rememered this thread i never read before..i like this song a lot but i have to check her other stuff to get a whole idea about her..

Ugh oh - she is starting to create waves here already. She is now an Okayplayer artist (www.okayplayer.com) and this was posted on their forums, which are really good forums by the way. I did not write this, some pissed off girl did though  :

So the chick does one show. Cancels the only other show that wasnt sold out within one hour. Canceling 1 of your 2 Los Angeles debut concert... With no plans to reschedule. Not a good look fam.
So then, (after speaking to one of the managers of spaceland, jen) she tries to claim that her 10 piece band wont fit inside of spaceland, and tries to cancel. So then Jen goes to accommodate this. Everyone fits. So then she shows us whats really up, and cancels REGARDLESS, claiming "exhaustion," and that she had a tough time the previous week before, and wasnt feeling well. This has Jen heated because of all the time and effort she put into making sure her band was accommodated, and now... all the lost revenue that the club loses.
Let alone that me and my girls had a full night planned around this shit. We dont see each other much with school and babies and life, so it was gonna be your classic "Girls Night Out." That whole plan went out the window.
So I was angry, but I wasnt trippin. We all know how Amy likes to cancel shit, plus whatever issues shes having with her boyfriend/alcohol/cocaina/whatever. Artists have issues. Humans have issues.
But then... I get to work next day and start speaking with my co-worker, also a (new) Winehouse fan. She also had plans to roll thru to spaceland and was disappointed when she canceled. She then told me about THIS article right here.... and tells me how she might not be fuckin with Amy much more. So she sends me the link, and I read it.
Apparently, this bitch went out the NEXT NIGHT... AFTER claiming exhaustion and that she wasnt feeling well.... to a local bar in LA and got TRASHED with KELLY (motherfuckingloserass) OSBOURNE.

This made my co-worker extremely angry, because she had to set up a baby sitter for her 11 year old, which all had to be canceled. Then a friend of mine tells me a story of how her friend in NY had PLANE TICKETS and a hotel that went to waste because she canceled on us.
Now I'm pissed, because this chick lied. Lied lied lied. LIED. BOLDFACED LIE. Not to just the owner of Spaceland... but to her FANS. People who have been waiting at LEAST a year (longer if you were down since Frank) this chick pretty much got screwed. Then we got lied to.
Now I know all OkayArtists have drama. From family to drugs to album delays to baby-daddy-issues... whatever. For the most part ('cept D'angelo, but thats another post), most OkayArtists dont let their personal issues EVER effect their music, or their live shows. At least not like this.
This type of shit is straight out disrespectful. Period. Theres no excuse. Absolutely no excuse for this shit. Dont tell us youre not feeling well, then go out the next night and get TRASHED. You cant DO that in LA. Its the home of the paparazzi. You WILL get caught.
Not only do you indirectly tell your fans that you really dont give a fuck about them... you also make yourself look like a total ass. And shes doing that right now. At least... thats how a LOT of people in Los Angeles feel. Not a good thing to piss off LA fans... since we sit in the entertainment capital of the world, pretty much.
Plus, you now represent Okayplayer, fam.
All Im sayin is that somebody better go get your girl and tell her what the fuck is up. We dont play that shit, nor do we appreciate that shit. Not only does it make you look horrible as a PERSON... it discourages music nerds like me from going out and spreading the word about your music. Really.
I'm sayin. I will take that import B2B and Frank right down to amoeba and get a credit for some new Dilla CDs. Amoeba pays WELL for imports, yo. I wanna take this heffer off my last.fm list. lol.

and yes, this WILL be my last Amy Winehouse post for a WHILE. A long while.
Again, I didn't write it, but Amy better not burn her bridges and she better show up sober to my damn concert on May 6th...

I'm starting to liker her music I first heard her music on myspace last summer but I ignored it i just didn't really like her voice at first listen but it has grown on me slowly  |

I saw Amy in concert tonight, which I almost didn't because we were going to sell our tickets (bought at regular cheap price - 18 bucks) to someone because people were paying over 50 bucks just for one ticket! We figured that we'd see her next time around. But, we didn't and I'm glad about that.
First of all, someone named Patrick Wolf opened for her and his music wasn't bad, but wasn't my thing, however his outfit was just ewww...
He had on some tight shorts, which is fine. But he didn't bother to secure his 'area' at all, so it was just swinging and flinging around in the shorts freely. Not something I wanted to see 
Anyway, I had doubts about her live sound because the concerts I heard of hers weren't that great, but tonight...she really, really sounded fantastic. I mean, she didn't overiff at all, hit every note, knew all the words, the Dap Kings  backed her up, so the instrumentation was tight, tight, tight. I love the DK. Her background singers were amazing....Anyway, she was a little wacky with rambling tangents here and there, and only had one drink on stage, but both those things don't matter to me because I was there to hear her sing and it was really good. She sounded like the record with a bit more of an attitude and electricity. She did mostly stuff from the new album (FRANK has not been release here, so that makes sense....although it is getting released in September) like 'Tears Dry On My Own' - which was flawless, 'Back to Black', Me and Mr. Jones - which was the encore along with 'Rehab'. She also did from the new album, 'You Know I'm No Good', 'Just Friends' and 'Wake Up Alone'. From the old album she did 'Cherry', 'F Me Pumps and...I think that was it. She opened with 'Addicted', which I was soooo happy about because I love that song, but no one knew it really since it wasn't released on our version of BTB.
Upon talking to the people around us and others partying tonight, we found out that so many people flew in from other parts of the country for this gig because Amy wasn't stopping in their city or tickets were sold out, which in a way sucked because she only played for 45 - 50 minutes or so.
She sold out across the USA.
Another thing, she does not look well at all from the neck down. I mean...she had on these little shorts and a tank top and she really looked frail and not in the naturally skinny way, in the sickly, wasting away way.
We couldn't believe how very bad it was. I won't judge or say she has an eating disorder or drug habit, but that was and is not natural.
She also was sporting her new engagement ring and said she is coming back in the fall.
I hope before she does a friend sits her down or her parents and tells her she needs to get better, because it is obvious something is wrong with her.
But the concert itself was fantastic. I didn't take pictures or anything.
I'd go see her again definitely. Way better live than I thought she would be. I love the lyrical content of the album and I'm happy I didn't have the experiences of some people that have seen her where she's been completely drunk and couldn't sing. She was indeed fantastic!

I left out that she also did 'He Can Only Hold Her' which led into a little section of her and the background singers doing a snippet of Lauryn Hills 'That Thing'...the boys sounded great on that, 'Valerie', and 'Love Is A Losing Game'.

I'll have to make this brief, because I am exhausted and have to get to bed and rested for work, but this whole weekend there was something called the Black Lily Film Festival. Basically, the Black Lily was an open mic night started years ago in Philadelphia that showcased female artists. It is where Jill Scott got her start, as well as the Roots. Well, after 5 or so years it got cancelled and they are starting it back up, so this weekend they did a whole tribute to the Black Lily including opening and closing concerts. Well, tonight's concert was fantastic...Alice Russell (who I got to meet), Alice Smith, ?uestlove, Jill Scott (who closed the night with 5 songs...beautiful), and many more including............................the surprise guest........

They didn't tell anyone she was coming, which is the spirit of the Lily...famous people came through all the time.
I had a feeling Amy would be there because she had a night off and was still here from her Philly show.
Every performer did 2 songs, and she did 'Rehab' and 'Me and Mr. Jones'. Only her 2 background singers came with her and the houseband, which included ?uestlove backed her up.
It was so great seeing her 2 nights in a row!
She sounded great, but forgot a few lines to Rehab!
It was lovely!

What a voice!" and divulged an interest in a collaboration. And on the other side of the funk spectrum, New Young Pony Club are remixing Amy's "Tears Dry On Their Own," opting to energize the track Miami bass style. Unfortunately, we have no news of a third album, yet.

Im going to see the Arctic Monkeys on July the 28th and Amy Winehouse is one of the supporting artists. I have to admit i'm not a fan of her music (although the version of Valerie and Mark Ronson's album, Version, is fabulous) and have failed to be impressed by her on the few occasions I've seen her perform live on TV.
Maybe I just need to give her a chance but her most recent songs I have heard, Rehab and Back to Black (i think thats title?) just aren't my cup of tea. I hope she is good when I go to see the Arctic Monkeys because there's no doubt she's a talented musician, just don't really think she's my thing?
