The Virginia Tech Shooting....

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

Sad As many of you have probably heard OR may not have heard, 32 Virginia Tech Students and the gunman were killed today in the most violent gun shooting incident in US History Sad. 2 separate incidents took place today on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, about 50 miles west of Richmond where I reside, the first incident took place at a dorm on campus where 2 were killed, no gunman was found, this occured on or about 7 am EST, then about 2 hours later, in a classroom in the main campus, a gunman entered and killed over +20 students and a teacher, then killed himself. I have 2 friends whom attend Virginia Tech, one is ok and the other was slightly injured, just a grazed bullet wound. I think I speak for my fellow Americans when I send my condolences to the family and friends of the 32 killed victims of the Virginia Tech massacre, and if there are still suspected individuals whom were responsible for this act, they will be found and punished to the full extent of the law. Please leave your thoughts, prayers and impressions in a reply to this post and thanks in advance for whatever you share here. Take care.

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Dear Brent,

I just watched the news tonight about this horrific attack! My thoughts go out to your friend hoping that he recovers from this quickly (am shocked to hear this); all those that you know and all other innocent US citizens who suffered as a result of this dark tragedy. It does frighten me, the world we live in today, it's a disaster to the extreme.

I don't know what else to say...it's absolutely terrifying...
Love,
Anna xx

Brent, I am sorry.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those 32, especially your friend. Sending blessings that they recover physically and mentally. I also want to send thoughts and prayers out to the gunman's family and friends, as I'm sure they are going through a stage of shock, grief, guilt, denial and mourning at this time also.

Just really so sad and even sadder that I'm not shocked. This type of violence has become so normal in our society (our meaning the USA).

The disrespect for life is disgusting.

very very sad.. Sad I am waiting to see the full story behind this, I wonder what is going thru the head of someone who would do such a thing.. My heart goes out to all the family and friends involved.. I am glad to hear that your friends are ok physically, but mentally I think this will scar them forever.. such a shame.. ..

Lots of shootings seem to happen in north America I see, I wonder why this is? and unfortunately this probably won't be the last one either which is horrifying to think, .. My heart breaks for the parents and family of these people..

Brent, I didn't know you were from Richmond... but I guess if I posted more I would have. Myself, I'm from Lynchburg, and I've got a ton of friends that go there. However, I'm going to school at Alabama, so it's been hard communicating. My local NBC - WSLS had streaming web coverage, so I was able to dial in all day. It was really nice, actually - I felt much more comfortable with my local news anchors. Luckily, I haven't had any personal bad news. I pray it stays that way, + for your friend's recovery, Brent.

What happened yesterday is terrifying. All my prayers are for the families of the citizens killed or wounded.

I'm really sorry for your friend Brent, when they're on tv facts doesn't seem actually real but it gives me a strange and bad feeling to know that a friend of you has been wounded...

I still can't understand why and how that could happen...

Unfortunately, this kind of "accident" will not stop soon, hence the power of the weapon lobby in USA, where they still have the same laws about guns like in cowboys era. The only one who tried to change that was B Clinton, and it's was a big failure.

All my respect to the famillies of the victimes.

Same here, during my breakfast i was readin a national newspaper tellin what happened and definied it like the deadliest mass killing in american history. Terrible and incredible: u just don't even think of something like that. Is it possible to avoid these kind of situations? All my prayers for the families and persons involved in this .

I want to send my condolences out as well. 5rose

It's about time a certain country did something about their gun laws. But I'm afraid there are too many guns in circulation already... legal and illegal. Some people say that guns don't kill, it's the finger pulling the trigger that does. It's true I guess, but if it wasn't so easy to acquire a gun there wouldn't be so many triggers to pull in the first place. Something is very wrong with the American gun culture. It's of course easy to say that it's every man's right to be able to defend themselves. But with such easy access to guns not only the ones who need to defend themselves can get them, but also the ones who you want to defend yourself from in the first place. Psychos will probably find a weapon of choice anyway, sooner or later. But with a strict gun law it will not be as easy to find a gun unless you have connections in the criminal underground. I'd much rather face a psycho armed with a knife or an axe than with a gun. With such close combat weapons I'd at least have a chance. I could run and not get shot in the back in the process. Or if I had to I could choose to fight him. But going against an individual armed with a gun having nothing but my hands and feet... well, that's nothing but suicide.

It's a shame that some states apparently allow virtually anybody to buy a gun... heavy drug users, even people with documented mental illness etc. 'The Right to Keep and Bear Arms'... ffs! If everybody to the left and right are carrying guns I would want one too. I need to be able to pull the trigger first if some crazy individual decides to put a gun to my face. It's a simple case of self-preservation. It will be a domino effect. One person get a gun and then another and another and another. People start getting paranoid and more prone to pull the trigger. In the end you can't trust anyone. Everybody will be a potential killer and everybody will think it's better to shoot first and ask questions later... just in case. Because everybody wants to live and let die rather than being a victim themselves... right? Violence begets violence and fear will cause many deaths just because people get paranoid and trigger happy.

Less guns in circulation = less deaths, that goes both for accidents (children finding guns at home and playing with them) and acts of madness like the current shooting at Virginia Tech. The Columbine shootings started a debate, but there was no change. Will the Virginia Tech shootings make a change? Or how many people will have to die before the politicians dare to make a change? Something has to be done or else the US and the world in general will certainly turn into the wild west once again. Everybody will want to carry a gun for one reason or another. I know I would prefer to live in a place where I don't have to worry about getting shot. But in a place like America I would most certainly get myself a legal arsenal of firearms to protect myself and my family. It's a paradox innit?

I'm afraid nothing can be done. Too many guns already. Take away the legal guns and the streets are still flooded with illegal ones. The human race and the world is being fucked from all angles possible. Wars, mental illness, street violence, domestic violence, weapons, heavy drugs, terrorism, global warming... we're done... sooner or later. I'm a pessimist I know, but I'm sorry... I see no reason to believe there will be a positive change. We can wish, we can hope, we can believe... but I'm sad to say that I'm 100% positive that we're doomed for extinction.

I second SC. Shit like this happens every day. From one angle, yes, this is a sad event in human history. From the second one, I should count myself too fucking lucky not to be a victim, and from the third one, I feel that this shit is happenning way too often... If I was in charge, I'd turn that fucking campus into an inside-out security prison. There are too many madmen running loose these days, and the only thing that can stop them is an breathtakingly high level of security... 5rose My condolences and everything...

Dang Jonas - if I were suicidal at this moment, I would have killed myself after reading your post!

I don't think you are pessimistic, I think you are realistic. I agree about gun laws should be stricter. My city is currently at 110 murders for the year. It's really sad, but I can't blame it all on guns, because some were stabbed with knives, others were burned. It goes past guns and more to the economic state, opportunities and disrespect for life. So while the laws do need changing - I also believe these above things need to be addressed.

All I wanted to add is that getting ready this morning, they started to read the names of the deceased. It sent chills down my body. Makes it more real to think that they were someone's children, you know?

When people look at those who live in the USA, they think how rich, lucky and free we are. What a blurred vision - another example how the freedom and money isn't really free.

...And the reports are saying this shooting was over a girl...love.

I'm telling you - love and money.... Confused

Don't want to get political in your post Brent - sorry!

Much love, DD

Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad My condolences go out to you Brent, I hope your friend is alright, I'm sure that was a huge scare for anyone to be anywhere near that situation ...

On the subject though, I agree with Space Clav too, it dosen't seem to be getting any better anytime soon, in fact it's always worse,

and I would just like to say that it's really sad that this happened and we hear about it and it's all over the news, and the whole world hears about it, it's kind of like "rare" that someone goes on a rampage, but, what's really sad is that shit like this goes on every f@#king day, it's just that you don't hear about it, I'm not talking about mass shootings necessarily, but there are a lot of wackos out there, that are making violent shootings/killings all the time.

I live near a city where I hear about murders almost every day.

Pomona. Plauged by gangs since the 1950's ....I read the newspaper everyday, and everyday there is some deranged killer either by reason of economics or gang retailiation or road rage........the list goes on.

I am surprised that these things don't happen more often, it is definetly the mindset of our society and like Deesh said the lack of respect for human life.

I think if everyone knew how much violence there really is going on all the time, in every state of the US, especially, Los Angeles, New York, and Florida, and Las Vegas.......they would be freaked out.

It's pretty scary....I think more could be done to slow down the process of obtaining guns so easily, it makes sense.

It makes you feel vulnerable, kind of like going back to the caveman days, where you don't know if you could be dead or alive the next day.

I don't own guns and I would probably never have one because I wouldnt want that around my kid.

You cannot really ever defend yourself from some crazed psycho suicide killer either, it's just one of those rare things.....you or anyone can do about except maybe preventing it from happening in the first place.
