Don't forget the IRL IndyCar Series beginning in Miami this Sunday! If any of you guys have an ESPN International feed in your country, check it out, I think you'll be surprised.

As for F1, lemme look into my crystal ball:

-Michael Schumacher wins an eighth driving title, but not without a fight

-David Coulthard proves critics wrong with Red Bull, gets some podiums

-Kimi Raikkonen takes Juan Pablo Montoya to school at McLaren

-Mark Webber gets exposed as overrated, Nick Heidfeld shades him at Williams

-Rubens Barrichello finally snaps and beats the daylights out of Jean Todt

Okay, that last one is fake, but seriously, don't you wish Rubens could get the shackles off and get a good enough car to fight Michael one-on-one?

Let's go racing! Cool

Indy Racing (and IRL) is basically the same, except u guys use turbo cars (pissweak, sorry). thats about it.

i did go to the indy festival on the gold coast in 2001, but i never got into it. a bit too predictable, just like formula one. Razz

- Mike will win, just. this year will be better, as the development of road cars will assist the manufacturers (BMW with their v10 M5, Mercedes with their defunct SLR).

- Coulthard should win at melbourne, given his good track record there (geddit, track, i crack me up Razz). but his time is gone. he'll retire at the end of the year and let some fresh meat in.

- Montoya is over-rated. he can't handle pressure. remember the 2003 melbourne GP? (i was there, at the first turn) montoya was 2 laps away from winning, he takes the 1st corner perfectly, but puts down the power too early, and spins out. even i could give bloody Montoya a lesson in how to handle pressure.

in the same race, you were able to see schumacher rip out the bottom of his chassis while lead (3 laps from the end), make a pitstop, goes down 6th in positions, and then recovers to 4 and gains 15 seconds. what a feat.

webber has potential. he can handle pressure, and crashes (eg 2003 brazil gp, 300+km/h crash and not even dazed.

webber will get podium positions this year, but won't win. he has had a bad run of shoddy manufacturers. Minardi use 3 year old cars from Faz and McLaren, and Jaguar are just plain crap.

Williams will revive this year with heidfeld and webber. no miracle wins, just consistency.

this year will be a cracker.

by the way, i'm the biggest motorsport fan here, bar none. ha.

This year will be crap 'cause of the new rules. Now we wont have 'whos the fastes' race, but instead 'who can finish the race in a reasonable time' race. He who preserves tyres the best, will win. And thats extremely stupid.

PietroChocko:

That's because you didn't see the INDYCars. The Surfers Paradise races are Champ Car races-the series jacks the Indy name in several locales.

The IRL doesn't use turbos either. They did when they started in 1996, but then switched to a "normally aspirated" engine in 1997. Chevy, Honda, and Toyota are still makin' them today.

But I digress. I agree with your assessment on Mark Webber. He's talented, but I don't think he's worth all the hype he gets. I think Nick Heidfeld will give him a good run at Williams, because he's been waiting for a while to get a shot like this. I believe Kimi Raikkonen got the call over him to replace Mika Hakkinen at McLaren, and I highly doubt that Nick has forgotten that.

By the way, I just got word of Ferrari's bullying of Minardi out of the Aussie GP. Jeez, F1's atmosphere is POISON! It's even worse than CART and IRL's bitchin' and moanin' over here!

ferrari have not agreed to minardi using last years car, becuase minardi have not agreed to ferrari using last years car.

simple really. still the atmosphere is poison because it ain't like the good ol' days of the 80s and the early 90s. back when winning WAS everything, not bloody downforce.

we need to back off with this aerodynamic crap, and focus on that the best driver wins!

in that sense, i mean that a real driver can win in whatever car he gets.

micheal schumacher can win in a williams, mclaren or a BAR. he'll get into the points in a minardi.

In the United States, the biggest racing championship by far is the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, which takes place in 23 different tracks (only two road courses) across the United States over 36 races and two exhibition events. The 43 vehicles that take the track each race are V-8 stock cars capable of reaching speeds of 190 mph at some places. This series pretty much has a stranglehold on what Americans perceive as racing itself, for better or worse.

The open-wheel series are the IndyCar Series and the Champ Car World Series, who are struggling to make any mainstream headway in the face of massive NASCAR marketing. Some of the best oval (IndyCar) and road racing (ChampCar) in the world can be found in these series, but because of a variety of reasons, including the lack of ALL American driver fields, these series have not taken well to the public. It's sad, really.

We also have drag racing here, the NHRA series, but that isn't very big. It's still pretty cool to see it live.

Hey PietroChocko, I've seen some V8 Supercar events on TV here in the U.S., and it's pretty good stuff, at least for road racing (forgive me, I'm a NASCAR/IndyCar fan). I hope you get to see a great season.
