Hi everyone, I found this interview today, where Denise mentions Jay...
Curvy Denise Happy With Her Weight
Cheeky blonde girl-next-door Denise Van Outen refuses to starve herself like fellow celebs and is happy to have "filled out a bit.".
The singer, actress and TV presenter, who was this year named in the world's Top 100 sexy women, said she had no wish to be a size six or eight.
The 32-year-old, just back from LA where she has been developing ideas, slammed skinny starlets, saying it was "womanly and normal" to have boobs, bottom and a bit of belly.
She also told of adapting to American dating rules that meant she could see several dates at the same time.
But she said she was having "too much fun" to look for an exclusive boyfriend, saying love and babies would come - but probably when she was least expecting it.
Denise, who weighs in at 8st 7lbs, said she hated the paparazzi because she couldn't relax following unflattering pictures that were printed of her.
Denise, star of TV show Where The Heart Is, said in an interview in this week's New! magazine: "The photographer got me at the worst possible angle and one picture made it look like I was covered in cellulite, which I am so not. It really annoyed me because it felt like I couldn't just sit down and relax.
"The other option would be to walk around being constantly aware that people are taking pictures of me and I can't do that. I agree with Charlotte Church - I think you should just be yourself."
Asked if her weight fluctuated, she said: "It does a bit - when I'm working I lose weight. In LA, the girls are too skinny, but I like having my boobs, a bit of bottom and a little bit of belly - it's womanly and normal.
"I'm 32 and I don't want to be anything other than what I am. I've filled out a bit and it's right for my age to look the size I am. I'm a size 10; I don't want to be a size six or a size eight. I'm not starving myself. I refuse to.
"In LA I sat in restaurants and saw people like Nicole Richie walk in and push their food around a plate. Honestly they're so thin. It's really awful. It's shocking to see in the flesh.
"They don't even eat, they just go there to be seen - and then there's me chowing down! But I don't eat badly. I don't eat lots of burgers and fries.
"I just eat what I want to eat. I mix the healthy stuff with treats, and there's nothing wrong with that. I had salad twice yesterday but then after dinner I had a great big bag of Kettle chips and a Frappuccino."
Denise, who had a long-term relationship with Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay, said the dating scene in America was very different to the UK, but that she had not been looking for anybody to settle down with.
She said: "It is quite different. It's not uncommon to date lots of different men at the same time until you agree with one that you want to see them exclusively.
"I went on dinner dates with a couple of Brits there, too, because you do end up gravitating towards British men because you've got something in common.
"I'm so 100 per cent single. At the moment I don't really want a boyfriend. I've been having too much fun! I'm sure if I do meet someone, you'll all hear about it because I can't keep my mouth shut. When I'm happy I tell the bloody world!
"I do want kids, but before I said I was really broody and it's gone away a little bit. I've got to that point where I think, 'Go with the flow'. I'm not desperate for a boyfriend or desperate for children.
"I'm just having a really good time right now. I do believe something will happen and I'll meet someone probably when I least expect it. In the meantime I'm just going to enjoy myself."
Denise said she would make sure any future boyfriends did not rely on her and could support themselves, saying she would not criticise her ex-boyfriends, but only one had made her feel "totally in love".
She added: "He'd have his own career and be focused on doing his own thing, because I'm pretty much like that myself. I'm really focused and I can respect someone like that and I find that interesting.
"It's hard to find everything, but I do believe it exists. Sometimes you get that early, passionate full-on part that disappears too quickly.
"I would never bad-mouth any of my ex-boyfriends, as they've all been lovely. for various reasons they haven't worked out. I just want to feel really, totally in love and if that's not there, it's not worth doing. I have had that once in my life, with Jay Kay, but we were really young and stupid. I'd like a grown-up version of that."

hhmmmm - so why did they actually break up then?
was it her decision or his?
I don't really know this story - i wasn't in to news back then haha.
just the music.

I think it was a mutual break up, she was very career driven, so was he, they never had enough time together and of course he was battling his cocaine addiction and he felt that she wasn't supporting him enough to get off the rotten stuff.
Anyway that's just what I can gather from interviews, but I suppose we'll never know the real truth for sure

When I read it, I didn't take it that she wanted to get back with Jay, it sounded like she was saying she had a great relationship with Jay but they were too young, so she'd like to have that type of a relationship again with another person (not Jay) as she's older now and could probably cope better with it as she's older & wiser.

I won't be very popular here  !!!! But I will always say this: I really like DVO and I think she was the perfect match for Jay. Anyway, time moves on, people change and we gotta roll with the punches 
She was great in The Big Breakfast and excellent on stage too! Sounds as though she is just reflecting on her past mistakes here and now knows what she actually wants from life. Good luck to her!

I only knew of DVO through Jay as we don't get her TV shows here. So all I've seen of her is when she was going out with Jay.
I've got to agree with you that I think that they were both very much in love and were very, very happy - which is what everyone wants in life really - in the end we just want Jay and the rest of the band to be happy, whoever they're with, and keep churning out the great music
