Catalyste over at Funkin has just given a good explanation of the two videos. Check out the comments for the Blue Skies video news item. _________________

My interpretation of the two videos:
Jay is telling us a story here and it is so obvious, when you think about it!
Jay is flying in a helicopter, chasing a fast car. The helicopter is his vehicle, it is SONY. It's a big and mighty vehicle and allows him to fly high, to move fast. He pursues a fast car which stands for his passion. But he is flying and flying but can't reach the car. It's a "white knuckle ride", a nerve-racking journey. In the end, the car stopps at a bridge - a bridge is something that brings you to another place, another level. Jay finds the car empty at the bridge. His passion is "empty". Jay is watching this, turns around and flies away.
This video shows us the situation with Sony, the music business, the pressure... always on the run, chasing something you cannot reach.
Sooo... now the next video starts.
Jay now without big vehicle (the helicopter). He is driving a motorbike which symbolizes freedom. That's the time without record label. He can do what he wants, he can relax, but the same time he seems to feel a bit undecided, throwing stones, he seems to be pondering, thinking a lot... in the end another helicopter comes to pick him up. This helicopter stands for the new record label (Universal/Mercury) which gives him the opportunity to lift up again, it is a vehicle which allows him to fly high. He has to leave the bike which gave him most freedom, though. The last scene shows this, when he comes back, flying the helicopter on his own now, having a last view of the bike. But then heading off with the helicopter to the sky.
It makes so much sense now, I can't believe it that it took so long for me to see it!!!!

Yep, that's got to be it. It makes perfect sense now. The lyrics and meaning/themes in the songs and analogies in the video all link up to give the story of Jay/Jamiroquai and their relationship with the music biz so far.
Even the "rough road" while on the bike... and the "almost but not quite" catching the car in the chopper... _________________

Watching both videos now again with my interpretation in my head, it's making me happy!! I feel connected again, because I know what is going on in Jay's head (if my interpretation is right, of course!).
It makes sense now that he said he was fighting for Blue Skies to be released. He wanted to get this message out!
It makes sense that both songs have been released kind of together!
Now I feel sorry for all those negative comments... |

Although... knowing what they mean doesn't make them appear any less self-indulgent or puzzling to outsiders who aren't aware of the story behind them... _________________

I like your interpretation Meike! It's brilliant!
Thanks to you I can appreciate the both videos!(but I prefer WKR)
I know that we've been dreaming with the band and we want to dream again and again! Perhaps for some reasons, few people felt "betrayed" with the Blue Skies sound.
But it belongs to an artist to make some choice. An Artist has to take some risks.
Dear people, don't panic! Wait the released of the album: you maybe could regret some negative comments!
Be patient and relax! _________________ "People find it's hard to be strong, cos' they don't know where they're coming from" |

These explanations make me appreciate the video's and the songs even more. But they can't expect the "normal" radio-listeners to understand this deep message. They obviously don't know what Jay is singing about or what the video means. So I hope there will also be another official single plus video from this album for the "big" audience, with some more action or that "sexy touch" typical for JMQ. But with these two songs and videos I am already very happy and curious for the entire album |

yes Catalyste post is GREAT¡¡¡¡
for some reason-till i get the videos-the song white knuckle ride sounds''short'' to me
i have heard the monarchy remix and even with 7 minutes i feel can be ever longer, i dont know why but i feel conected from the first time with this song, i really wish they do it live even longer¡¡¡¡¡¡
it makes me wonder if there's or will be a long or extended version, everytime i listen the song i wanna listen again, it's THAT good to me
i start to feel there must be a longest version, because from the minute 3:00 i feel like it can have more sounds, more minutes, i really think there's more
and that just the music, im sure when i got the videos ill put them all day, night, etc...
i feel really related to what jay is singing
also, for some reason, always jamiroquai catch me offguard and i feel related to all at the same, this time is not the exception.
if not, somebody can say just the time i start to love porsches THEY put a porsche on a jamiroquai music video? the time when im getting more and more into porsches, they do it , they put one on a music video
also, everybody knows i love the CG video, and looks like both videos are like CG now, changing everything but the desert and the freedom on it.
no, nothing is coincidence
that's why i feel to related to jamiroquai, because they always caught me deep and for some reason even the videos-lyrics get related to me.
ill be loyal to this band till it comes the end, and i hope it lives longer, or as long i will live _________________ Only a fool can walk away from me this time

I'm thinking about the options.....
1) This Catalyste person is the writer of the idea of both videos
2) Co-director
3) Jay's psychologist
4) Jamiroquai astrologer
5) A joker looking for fame
I'm about to choose number FIVE. You choose whatever you like the most.
Both videos are A JOKE! I can't find any good explanation. I'm really hoping (I'm sure it'll be like this...) the MUSIC in the new album is gonna be GREAT. Promotion videos and artwork....you can live without both (not watching the videos and having a glass of champagne covering the cd artwork) _________________ Call me up, turn me on, tune me in... |

Like it better...though...what I think is that you're trying SO HARD on finding explanations to EVERYTHING. If the helicopter is THIS, or the car THAT...Maybe I'm not able to think beyond what I see or I'm lack of imagination. For sure, I'm 100 % positive about the MUSIC, both song sound amazing. In my opinion, they should have tried a little harder and give us a better entire pack (music, artwork, promo videos) But let's wait 'til November 1st _________________ Call me up, turn me on, tune me in... |
