IT ISNT MUSIC STEALING!
it's just that we do not have a current band that has the (almost) same sound as JMQ, and now these guys come out with the same music.
earth, wind & fire were accused of sounding the same as the commodores, but it's just the same genre, not the same music.
when maroon 5 do a cover of cosmic girl.... THAT is music stealing. |

Covering a song isn't stealling!
Stealling is when you copy a song and say that you made it or that you for example add it on album and don't add original artists to credits. And without the knowledge or original band or record company.
Well, something like that |

i agree mtey;if maroon5 have written on the album that they used a sample from jamiroquai, then this topic would have a different name..something like "MAROON5 SAMPLING JAMIROQUAI" but its not like that and i had to react.. _________________ "on the bass st.st..st..stuuu zender!!" |

no when Maroon5 do a cover of cosmic girl release it without jamiroquai's permission and sell it ... that is music stealing!
just a note: anyway due to "copyright act" we're not even aloud to listen to music we bought , on a cd player out in public ... even tho no one else can hear it! ... the system is totally roarted! |

We're not gonna talk about the system, 'cause if im not mistaken, we're all on JamiroHub right now downloading. Which is ofcourse, illegal.
But to get back to the topic, Maroon 5 obviously did not steal anything. They're just honouring the great Jamiroquai. |

Congratulations cheeba lover, you have won the idiotic award.
Bands sample all the time, i guess someone isn't familiar with the music business

sampling is when you give credit on your album to group that you sampled, but changing the music and twisting it into your own is STEALING!
i know phunky this is too much information for you to handle but please try..
we discussed this and you didnt even read it,you just waited oportunity to "insult" me,next time read the topic please. _________________ "on the bass st.st..st..stuuu zender!!" |

my two cents here
Do they really sound the same?? I hadn't drawn the comparison before I read this thread. Same genre? again I'm not sure...
As for Sunday Mornings sounding like Virtual Insanity hmmmm.... again im not convinced! The reeds break in the middle and the end is similar but 'tisnt plagurism (sp)
Good Music tho! |

Hello again,
Whoa, this topic is still buzzing....hmm weird! I would have thought this convo would have wrapped up rather quickly..hehe! In regards to sampling, there is no stealing involved there, the sampled artist gets a small profit off the royalities of the sampling artist. How the heck do you think Hip Hop gets it's beats for their high name artists ? Oh well, thanks for the listening and Peace!
Sincerely hopes Maroon 5 goes on a extended vacation,

I disagree...Maroon 5 didn't steal anything.
Let's look at it from a compositional standpoint (if you're not a musician...this may make no sense to you.
"Sunday Morning" is a basic ii-V7-I for about 90% of the tune. That sequence of chords is one of the most basic turnarounds and is the basis for billions of songs.
"Virtual Insanity" does have a similarity because it's chord progression follows the same cycle of fourths. There are far more differences than similarities.
SAME-use of acoustic piano, similar tempo, and the singer has a similar vocal tone quality with a similar range to Jay Kay's.
DIFFERENT-SM is in a Major key, VI is in a minor key
SM has very standard pop lyrics, VI takes more risks and covers a topic far more unexplored
SM has less substance and a significantly more limited instrumentation...VI is more complex, with more turns and plenty more chords (making the harmonic motion much more interesting...look, I can go on for days.
They are both good songs, but we all know which one is a higher quality! _________________ Jazz is the Teacher...FUNK is the Preacher.
