Hey guys...something that can let you think: the bass lines on my favourites tracks of Dynamite (Talullah and DGHAC) are marked Randy Hope-Taylor...don't forget it!
anyway...Paul is great, very good even on the Runaway lines! _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

Yeah, Paul's awesome, and the friendliest dude you could meet.
As far as learning the old songs, he told me after one of the gigs last year that he already had the first three (I think) albums from when they came out, and although he wasn't a super-massive fan, he had a pretty good knowledge of the basslines before he joined.
I'm really happy he seems to have become one of the 'permanent' members. _________________

Yep, Andy.. he told me the same and he also let me know that his wife has always been a jamiroquai fan, so that could be another reason for him being quite familar with the tunes... _________________ ~ I look up to Heaven, every star I see is mine.

Paul's just doing a great job with the band! He's really clicked with music, just dig that Phat B-line!!! Gives tha track a little help (a good one, I like it, but it's kinda average one- they can do better ) I don't have any doubts He was a listener of old jami songs |

Paul has done a solid job so far, but I wanna see how he does with a full album. But I think Jay made a good find. I think he's better than Nick Fyffe, perhaps on par with Stu Zender. _________________ "...I feel that Jamiroquai needs to be taken to another stage now. It really does. Yep! Finally it's time to forget about Fyffe who was nothing but a parenthesis in the story of Jamiroquai. The Jazz Café gig was the definitive proof that Jay once again has a new dream team. They haven't sounded this good since 1997 imho. _________________ Old school forever! |

okay they sounded nice but they're not a dream team!
and don't be so destroying at Fyffe... this guy really did a great job, not as the one Paul is doing, but he did great things... he's a nice bass player! and if I compare them with Zender... they're kitties... hahaha
but the only dream team in the band was the 1997 one! period!
and of course, i recognize they did an amazing job at the Jazz Café! |

Don't be so negative Ed. It's a new dream team. I don't think I'm alone to have that opinion. The 1997 dream team is history. These are new times, new players.
Zender won't be back. Accept it. Paul is here and we should be very thankful that he is no Fyffe. Defend Fyffe all you want, but I still think he wasn't doing anything "great" with Jamiroquai. Nice bass player, perhaps... but nice isn't good enough. His style wasn't compatible with Jamiroquai, period. Paul is light years better... both technically and as far as compatibility with the Jamiroquai style goes.
They did an amazing gig. And they haven't sounded this good since Zender left imho. So even if you feel a need to be negative and all... isn't "almost as good as the 1997 dream team" good enough for you? If it makes you happier to dream about Zender and Toby coming back you will only be even more bitter. Adapt and overcome. I'm perfectly happy with this setup providing there is brass in the mix. The gig at the Jazz Café gave me a lot of positive vibes and hope for a new bright future... back to the oldschool! _________________ Old school forever! |

no no no i'm not being negative... but saying that they're a dream team is so much! that's what i think! they're just the same Dynamite rotation with a new brass section, so...
but i'm agreed with you at the Fyffe thing... he didn't have that connection Zender had with the people, or the one Paul is having actually, and you can see there Paul doing whatever he wants... slapping whenever he wants, it makes me happy, i love him! and i know the old band won't be back, but sometimes when people compares the actual band with the all-star 1997 line-up (hehe) i get like.... "WTF" heheh
so, let's see what happens next! i really want them doing great songs... not those poppy dance songs they're doing actually... they're all proffesional! to be doing that "spice girls" songs... |

I'm not comparing this setup to the 1997 setup. It wouldn't be fair to any of the setups. I'm just saying Jamiroquai hasn't sounded this good since 1997. They are well capable of picking up that oldschool vibe and do their version of it... old but new. Freedom = happy musicians = good performances = happy fans. _________________ Old school forever! |

I couldn't agree with you most Jonas! Freedom is the word!
The way Paul played that nite told the story, He's being unleashed!! So glad to hear some techniques in his playing to add more dirty heheh...
I'm one of those who thinks there's no need to compare two players...
Every player has his way to holding it down, some just have and some others can't get it so easily...
But experience, time, feeling coud be the masterkey to a whole new level 'tween players and togetherness, without forgetting the natural feel of course. That's a point to me who could split a player from the other that in some of an ocassion making'im good or bad... or a Master!
I've said before, Paul's a block of funk, but He's for his natural feeling and for all the studio work and gigs He's been in, so He's a seassoned player who can express music to the point of feeling that compatibility more evident. Nick was a good bass player: He chickened and didn't dare more, That was just the way he play and he felt comfortable with it or he couldn't play more than that... we don't know exactly...
Paul's just the man for Jamiroquai in this new line up.
Nick... who's Nick? |

yeah I'm in for this one. Paul is excellent and a more than worthy addition to the band. As has been said before happy band = better music for everyone. I don't have anything against Fyffe but reckon whilst being technically adept, he was quite lifeless and boring and sometimes seemed as if he couldn't be bothered playing the songs at all, like he'd rather be off elsewhere doing something else and it's a shame because he is/was very very cool and funky. So yeah, Paul is ace. Driving the songs on again with his bassline and the Jazz Cafe performance was first class, and I do think that "the 'quai" have a "dream team" again. _________________ THE OPPOSITE OF LOVE IS NOT HATE.
