Sandi and Crowning
Sandisaster - My Ipaq has realplayer and windows media player on it... so it does vids as well. I don't leave home without it. Sounds like the weather is doing well in the mid-west... we have freezing rain tonight. Lot's o' fun... I almost went off the road on the way home... lol. Thelonius Monk eh? How about some Coltrane?
Crowning - where's your backside been these days sis? I think we could all use a little TLC. I know that I am overdue... lol. I think your backside may be many things but miserable isn't one of em...lol |

Pestilence and Anya...
Hey Anya, Miles is a cool Kat! I love him too. I haven't heard of the other you mentioned, I'll have to check it.
Miles Davis will be inducted into the Rock&Roll hall of fame this year:

Sabbath and Sex Pistols too!! Right on!
Hey Pestilence- Ipaq eh....I'm gonna check that thing out, sounds super cool! Yeah, our roads were really...wet...last night, "Steaaaal Raaaiiin...." I had to break out my goggles (glasses) to see out the windshield on the way back from the lick'er store. Today was one of those cool days, perfect gray sky with the bare trees going on--
I saw a freaking hawk man!!! I was out back smoking a cig, and he comes out from the side of the building!!! Wings spread, just gliiiiding--"Squwaaaaaaaa!!!!" I almost lost it!!! I didn't know wether to run and get a camera, freaking salute him, or what. I just froze and stared with my mouth open, it was a very surreal moment in time, like the wind stopped blowing and all of the other birds silenced, leaves and clouds stood still. I don't even "smoke" anymore and all of that shit happened...I swear.
You know, I've heard of Coltrane, but I only just started listening to sax stuff. I was never big on it. I played Clarinet in jazz band (in highschool), but I hated it. I wanted to play trumpet so bad! It just looked so cool and to the idea of creating a jam with only three fingers and my lips...I longed to try it, but I never did pick one up.
Since my Dad's been playing sax, in an effort to keep a common ground, I've started listening more to stuff like Coltrane, only recently though. Cool stuff...He's got a pretty cool website too.

You know...(I'm getting all sentimental now but...) when my Dad moves on one day (whew, what a depressing thought), I'll inherit his entire collection. I'm kind of hiding from the big sax guys until then. I figure, I'll spend a lot of time going over all of those albums and CD's and just trying not to break down.
Miles tho, he's kinda wicked. So, I can listen to him now. _________________

Hawky... player
Sans-dizasterdly
Sounds like the weather was more humane in your part of the continent… I like Hawks. When I was in school, I used to drive to London, Ontario, every morning (about and hour) right through an area known for red-tailed hawks. They used to hang out up high in the tress right by Highway 401. They are quite the sight up close. I think a salute would have gone over well.
A friend of mine was huge into Coltrane… When I went to Joe’s place he used to put Coltrane on and we’d hang out and talk. That is some great music.
I hope your dad is well… It is a depressing thought when you look at your parents as aged and frail. That is the way it goes… I hope your dad has a long and healthy life. Discover the masters now… you may just find that if and when your dad passes, you may find something new in the music at that point. Good music changes as the listener evolves…

Thanks P...you know... your right, and I will.
Sometimes I think people shy away from certain types of beauty because
they are afraid to feel too much. I'm usually not one to shy away from pain, at all! But, some things you know, make us feel so small, it's very scary. Thanks again.
Anyway, ENOUGH OF THAT TALK!
So, you live in London?
Does anyone know of any "new" jazzy type bands that are really good. Like groups that were influenced by the greats, but have incorporated the sound of our generation into it? I only know of a few, and I would like to know of more. _________________

London calling
Hi Sans...
I actually live in Cambridge, Ontario (I lived in London for the first year of my last degree - the following two years I drove in).
I hear ya about not shying away - just remember: you can't expect to feel life's greatest highs without being prepared to experience the corresponding low. Life is lived at the extremes – that’s all you remember. After all, nobody ever focuses on the days where nothing happened… and you weren’t moved to do anything. Enjoy the range of experiences that life has to offer…. Enough on that topic…lol
New jazzy bands? hmmmm. I seem to be behind the times on that one. .. anyone have any suggestions? |
