Paul McCartney signs to Starbucks label Hear Music

Starbucks has confirmed that it has signed Sir Paul McCartney to its Hear Music record label, run in association with Concord Music.

The first signing for the company since the Genius Loves Company album of Ray Charles duets, the deal ends McCartney's 40-year relationship with EMI.

The first release from McCartney on the label is expected to arrive in June. The material will be distributed worldwide, both in stores and elsewhere.

Following a Starbucks investor meeting today (March 21), Concord Music Group president Glen Barros said "recording artists should be attracted by the idea of a built-in audience in Starbucks."

Paul said the new material "is very personal and would look to the past and the now."
