hm, no.. i don't think so. Actually the girl doesn't turn at all, it's not a 3D-figure - it is just a plain 2-dimensional figure. Because of the moves she makes, our brain is giving us a three-dimensional impression but in fact she only moves from left to right and then back - back and forth. If you concentrate on the foot which is at the bottom, you can see what I mean. But our brain is giving us the imagination of a rotation and a 3D-picture. The direction we see depends on our dominating brain half. That's what I think.

nope, doesn't work like that. it is actually a 3D animation, converted to a flash file. i can tell that they used poser to create the figure. You can tell that it is a 3D animation rather than a 2D animation because you can see that there is perspective shortening when she spins backwards (her foot gets shorter or bigger when it gets towards the camera)
the optical illusion that she can spin in both directions is created because you can't see any details of her actual body. the silouette doesn't give away in which direction she's spinning.
I just tried it with a very simple figure in a 3D package. The illusion only works if you have the silouette. the moment you switch on details the illusion breaks and you can clearly tell in which direction the figure is spinning. |

yes, bear... we kinda mean the same thing. I know, the figure is made with a 3D programm - but it is still a 2D-figure, mathematically speaking - it's on a screen with only 2 dimensions and the figure has no details, no shadows, like you said - (besides the shadow on the ground). The 3D effect is created in our minds.
Difficult to explain.

She's got the hiccups in this one. For me, she goes CW, and then on the fifth attempt at revolution she goes ACW. The literal pivotal alternating trigger for me is watching her heel rise up and down.
Thanks for helping out Meike. _________________ Jamily to the bone !!!

yes.. very special..lol..
I am good at this now, i can make her flip back and forth one way then the other.. also if you scroll down so as you can only see her legs you can make this happen more easily.. I think?.. works for me anyway.
then I was looking here at two spinning girls on the same screen and one was spinning CW and the bottom one spinning ACW.. wow..
trippy.. _________________

that's really freaky!! First I saw her turning clockwise for a very long time - and then suddenly it switched!! But it seems that my right brain is dominating. Very interesting!!

Exactly the same as me!
She rotated clockwise for a very long time. Then I turned away talking to a co-worker and suddenly she rotated anti-clockwise.
I always thought that my left brain was dominating. Especially since I always scored very high on various IQ tests where logic thinking is important. I also have a job where using logic and reason is essential. But it seems like my right brain is dominating after all. I guess that's a good thing for my creative musician wannabe side.
However, I seem to be able to activate my left brain at will since I discovered how to focus and make her rotate any way I want to. I guess it's a good thing being able to active the left brain for my work and when taking IQ tests (as if that happens on a regular basis, lol). _________________ Old school forever! |

Daaaaammmnnnn look at that girl spinning! The first time I looked, she was going counter-clockwise. Then, after I thought I wouldn't see her change direction, I looked away for a moment and when I looked back she was going clockwise. Then I couldn't see her go counter-clockwise anymore! Now I opened it again and she went counter-clockwise for a second then went back to clockwise.
Luckily you included the option for both clockwise and counter clockwise! _________________
