You're sure right, here in Australia, all school children need to wear school uniforms (up until they finish their secondary school - around 17yo). I think it's great that the kids wear uniforms then you know they're school children, here's a pic of my 2 older kids in their summer school uniform...
Boys wear trousers in winter, shorts in summer, girls wear dress in summer and tunic (winter dress with stockings) in winter

Yeah but the senior school uniform's not cheap though.
My girls summer dresses are £36 each! Just for a bit of cotton tartan! The jumpers are about the same too! (and I can't pass them on as they go to different schools!) But the girls are all allowed to wear trousers at schools in the UK now. (I think!)
Then when they're in year 10 in our area, the girls are allowed to wear black/navy trousers and a plain white shirt - for years 11 and 12 they can wear what they want - but now they want them to start dressing as if they were in an office. (all my eldest wants to wear is jeans etc). I guess there's time for that at college/university?
My poor hubby is still fighting clothing regulations when we go out and have to dress up - he hates wearing a suit, as he went to prep and private schools when younger and had to wear a suit all the time. Even on a Saturday! _________________ We could have saved the Earth but we were too damned cheap.
