All Good In The Hood should have been the first single. I like it way more than either of the singles released so far, and at this point, it should definitely be released as the third single. |

i would choose fast persuader. the problem is that this is a 5 minute song. if it is released as a single , it will definitively be cut , and a lot of people is not gonna like that (remember dont give hate a chance ?? )
for me all good in the hood and two completely different things must be released as singles. _________________ HIGH TIMES PERU :

well, you guys posted interesting points of view.
I kida agree with Dye's point of view about She's a fast persuader. It's fantastic, no doubts about it, but I can't see it as a single.
I think All Good in the Hood would work very good as a single, since it's a fresh and catchy song, and has a typical structure, and sounds very "jamiroquai-like"
I like Smoke & Mirrors too, but the lack of a "typical" chorus may not be very good for a single, cause makes the song "less catchy" -singles are about commercial success after all-, even though I think it's one of the best songs of the album)
So, my no.1 choice is All good in the hood, but followed very closely by Hang It Over (I imagine a "funny" video for hang it over -maybe because of its happy mood during the chorus- with the whole band participating in it). |

She's a Fast Persuader is immense
I voted for She's a Fast Persuader, even though I can't see it being released as a single. It captures the 'true' Jamiroquai sound and it's five minutes of musical perfection. Every time I listen to this song, the goosebumps increase. When I first heard the snippet on YouTube,I knew it would be on constant repeat. I would LOVE this as a single. I wish they had replaced WKR for it, which doesnt thrill me anywhere near the same way. All Good in the Hood is a great song, but the chorus may not be a hit with the general public, even though I like it I would also love to see TCDT as a supporting single, which should have replaced Blue Skies which is too dreary for me. Not one single song in the charts in the last five years has grabbed me in any way. Then there is salvation as Jamiroquai come back. All Jamiroquai fans have the best taste in music. THAT IS A FACT!!!!! |

She's a Fast Persuader.
I think a single may be or not be the best song of an album - in my view that´s a misleading approach, but it definitely has to be catchy |

I can see them starting the song at about the 13+ second mark and cutting the bass solo (at the end). It would be like virtual insanity, where they cut the piano solo, and that turned out just fine commercially. |

Voted That's Not the Funk, I know.. a bit to vote this, but it has most 'Single Potential' in my opinion.. However, this is never going to happen cause it's just an extra track for Japan or German fridge buyers at Saturn That said, I reckon there's not gonna be another single anymore.. What do you think?? |

Voting for a single is difficult for me. Cause for me this is a "concept" album. It is the album where I really skip very few or not at all.
But as much as these songs are very interesting and fit perfect in the whole I don't see much potential for singles.
For voting for a single I have to go away from what I like and guess what the "mass" likes. I think here my favourite would be All good in the hood tonight, which is a song with a catchy melody - a good song but not the best song on this album, but may be the best for a single: _________________

For me, the best songs shouldn't be released as singles, but rather stay as little gems when people buy the album. So, She's a Fast Persuader and Hey Floyd definetely NOT.
I think Goodbye To My Dancer could be a good follow up. Or Smoke and Mirrors. And Hang It Over should be interesting. |
Yes I totally agree! She's Fast Persuader must be the gem of the album like Hooked Up, Mr Moon, Travelling Without Moving, Butterfly, Mein Vein or Time Won't Wait.
All Good in the Hood or Goodbye to My Dancer are good choices! _________________ "People find it's hard to be strong, cos' they don't know where they're coming from" |

Yes, but didn't you hear the saying 'save the best for last?'.
I don't think an artist should release the very best songs to promote an album. |
The problem is that cds fade much faster these days... Their life span is much shorter nowadays... Long gone are the days when someone like Michael Jackson could release 7 (seven!) singles from a 10 track album and have top ten hits with every one of them...
This doesn't happen anymore. Many artists only release 2 or 3 songs from their albums and that's it.
Also, with the internet, you just can't keep the mystery anymore. Once a cd is out, there are a million ways of getting it for free, whether the band likes it or not. And you can download (legally too, of course) just the songs you like. In the past you were forced to buy a whole album just to get a non-single track. Nowadays you buy what you want, whether it's a single or not. By the time the artist finally releases that killer track, chances are you'll already have it in your computer/mp3 player.
There's also something else. Singles are quite boring these days. I loved the good old days when they came with new songs! Nowadays you have 3 million remixes of the single, most of which are incredibly boring and uninspiring. Record companies complain that no one is buying singles anymore, but why should we?
That's why I feel the best should be released straight away. There's no time to waste. By the time a third or fourth single is out, it's very rare to see them outsell the first two singles. They tend to do poorly, simply because the songs on the cds aren't novelty anymore.
Just my point of view! |
I don't agree. A single should be a taster of what to expect, and not give away the "best" track, just like that.
I'm not saying releasing the bad song, just not the best ones.
I think Smoke & Mirrors or All Good in the Hood should've been released instead of Blue Skies. |

I honestly don't mind BLUE SKIES. I know most people dislike it, but I think it's quite nice. Not my favourite track on the album, but it's very pleasant. I'm not that crazy about the video, though...
I respect what you said, but I disagree.
I have tons of albums that I only bought because I fell in love with the lead single. The single made me enthusiastic to buy the whole album. Many times there was no other song on the album that matched the single. Is it a bad thing? Yes, because it shows it was basically a one-song album. But by releasing the best song as a single, the artists made people want to buy the album. If they'd released a weaker song, no one would have minded.
I'll give you 2 examples.
In the 90's, there was a dance group called THE KLF. They weren't really a proper group. Just 2 DJs joking around with the idea of being ''pop stars''. Anyway, they released 3 AM ETERNAL, one of the most fantastic dance singles of all time. I was #1 across the planet. I still LOVE the record to this day. I bought their cd THE WHITE ROOM purely on the strength of the single. Although I really like TWR, I have to admit that there's nothing remotely as strong as 3AME on it.... If they'd released one of the weaker songs, would TWR have sold as much as it did? I highly doubt it... It was 3AME that made TWR successful.
Another example.
Alson in the 90's, Germany gave the world Milli Vanilli... Do you remember them? Their first single was that song GIRL, YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE. They even got a Grammy for that (which was later removed when they found out MV didn't really perform on the track)...
I never liked MV, but I know many people who did. And they ALL told me that the album only had one good song: GYKIT. The rest, I was told a hundred times, was really bad. The album was incredibly successful thanks to the lead single. I ask again: would it have sold as much as it did if they'd released a different song than GYKIT? I doubt it too...
Why save the best for a selected few?
Show it to the masses!!!!!!!!!!

I voted for "All Good In The Hood".This song has it all: funky bassline, catchy chorus, dance appeal. It should have been the first single.I'd like to see this song become a new single, with lots of promotion and a great video. |
