Sandisaster,
Betting the ponies takes some time to really learn and master. I think the reason that Texas Hold'em has taken off the way it is (at least in the U.S.), is that the World Poker Tour motto really is correct: "It takes 2 minutes to learn, but a lifetime to master". It might take a lifetime to master, but since everyone can learn it in 2 minutes, everyone is playin it these days.
As for horse racing, you need to first know the kinds of bets available for you and how they work. And then the big step after that is truly learning how to read a racing form. There are a number of different "experts" pcks you can get ahold of, and just use theirs, but I don't trust their minds with my $$$$. The Daily Racing Form http://www.drf.com is the "bible" for horse racing stats, etc.
It gives past performances, times, comments on all the horses running on a given day at a given track. Learning how to read these past performances, breaking down the multitude of info in front of you, decifering what really matters, etc etc etc takes time.
I knew how to read a form after a lil while, but it's taken me much longer to learn what I take in as the most important info. Breaking down the info, etc etc etc. It's still a learning process, and there's a dizzying amount of info on each horse.
But unlike poker, or any other game you gamble on, for a minimum investment on each bet, you can receive the most money back on your best depending on the odds of the horses. I have become an "expert" (Im not trying to sound pompass, but it's my style) at betting longshots. Longshots by definition don't come through and win very much. So I maybe get a winner on 5% of my total bets for the day. But just hitting that one bet will leave me way ahead for the day or night Im there. Because if you get a longshot to come through for you, YOU GET PAID HUGE!!!!!!!!! _________________ Wouldn't 'ya like... To walk the sunny avenues of life? |
