Look Sam, i am not gonna get into an argument with you (certainly about football!).
I dont come on here to have a go at people.
And quite frankly i think i would have to join a long queue for having a go at you.

I will say no more, because quite frankly i can't be arsed.

I wasn't trying to be argumentative. Just can't really see why you ask people to stop a thread simply because you're not interested in it...

Haha... that's what SHOULD have been asked!

OK then, who fancies turning this into a general football discussion thread now the WC is over? It'd be great to take the piss out of someone other than my suegra when River give B**a J**iors a good thrashing in the league... Wink

And Janluka... FRA... other Italians... any thoughts on the relegations? I was surprised to see Milan stay up, all our papers seemed to think it'd be Fiorentina who'd be allowed to stay in Serie A.

Still, wish I was a Torino fan right now! Laughing

AC Milan stayed in Serie A because of "objective" responsability, one manager did some phone calls to have "near AC MIlan" referees in one match against Chievo. The othe clubs had "direct" responsability beacause the top management...means CEO as Della Valle or Lotito called the referees choosers and in the case of FC Juventus the responsability is really deep so they had that strong penalization. I hope AC Milan will get minus than 15 points of penalization in the next season, we lost the chance to be in the champions league of next year, that's a big penalization for the supporters. ...and I also hope Buffon and Zambrotta 'll sign with my team soon!!! Smile

I take it from that you're a Milan fan, Donkey - well unlucky, but it could've been worse! I'd mention something about friends in high places but I'm sure the papers over there have asked one or two questions about Berlusconi amidst all this anyway...

As a United fan, I'm starting to think the worst punishment would be to force all four clubs to be taken over by clueless American 'billionaires' (so where's the money, if that's true?). The Glazers have finally realised they don't actually have enough money to run the club now, as a result of which we've got none to spend on new players, ticket prices are going to rocket (believe it or not United have been one of the cheapest clubs in the Premiership to go and watch for many years), and it's not looking like ending any time soon...

I'd swap our current state for relegation to the second division (or 'The Championship', as its confusingly now known here) and having to send a few players out on loans any day...

lol you know which "clueless" American owner you need to buy Man U. from the Glazers (they maybe still own the NFL's Buccaneers, maybe not anymore... not sure), is George Steinbrenner: owner of the New York Yankees baseball team. That dude spends more $$$ than god trying to get a winner. He doesn't develop any talent anymore, he just buys it...

Lecce is in Serie A now? Does the dream ever end for you Fra!? Damn! The real question I have for you... and please answer this with your head and not your heart, is can Lecce hang with Serie A squads, or do you think they will be demoted again in a few years. If the owner of Lecce is serious about staying in the "A", he should go after a big time player.

That's one thing that I think is kinda neat about Soccer leagues all over Europe: If your team sucks, you get demoted to a lesser league. In the U.S., for baseball, baketball, American football, and hockey, you don't get demoted if you suck, you just... suck.

In the NBA and NFL, you get the first picks in the college draft, which is supposed to help the teams improve greatly, but usually teams that suck, will suck for at least a few years before they get good. And sometimes teams take literally 10 years or more to figure it out.

The Los Angeles Clippers basketball team had only made the NBA playoffs one time in like 20 years before this past season. My beloved Minnesota Twins baseball team after winning the World Series in 1991, sucked for 10 years before returning to the playoffs.

Teams like those if they could be demoted to a lesser league, with less potential for revenue if they could get demoted, would motivate them to make the right moves, spend enough $$$ to keep their teams competitive. Especially in baseball a lot of teams don't spend any $$$. So they always suck. It would be great to see the Kansas City Royals get demoted to the "minors" lol.

Sorry, this turned into a rant, but I'm saying this thing where football teams in Euurope can get demoted if they suck is a good thing. The U.S. could use that for a lot of their sports teams.

Seeing as this is the official football thread, I wanted to share this article. Surely, it doesn't really go here, but I didn't deem it worthy to have its own topic. This is sad...really Rolling Eyes I'm happy we don't concentrate on the wives and girlfriends of athletes over here...no one really cares! Obviously, I'm not British, so I don't know if all of this is true and I know all women aren't included in these studies (especially the Jami ladies), but damn...this is just ridiculous!

Just found this interesting:

WAGs are the UK's new female role models, survey finds

Wednesday July 19, 2006

She spends more than £1000 ($2900) a month on looking good and going out, believes she has a better sex life but less romance than her mother did at the same age and admires Victoria Beckham more than any other woman.

Welcome to the world of the average 20-something British female.

Rejecting the "have it all" mantra of previous generations, most young women between 21 and 25 appear to aspire to being a WAG (footballer's wife or girlfriend) rather than a powerbroking executive, according to a survey.

More than half still live with their parents, only a quarter believe a career is important and a third admit that they behave more like a child than an independent woman.

The survey by More magazine of 2000 women in their early 20s found that they were more concerned with femininity rather than feminism.

While earning an average of just over £18,000 a year, respondents spent £1156 a month on clothes, beauty products and entertainment.

The average young British woman's wardrobe contains 151 items, including 25 pairs of shoes, eight handbags and four hats - but only 6 per cent wear everything they own.

Almost half - 46 per cent - have credit card debts and owe an average of £3380.

Top of the 10 most admired women came Beckham, followed by Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Aniston and the glamour model Jordan.

More editor Donna Armstrong said: "This generation of young women are having the time of their lives and 23 is the ultimate age.

"Most [six out of 10] want to be a Wag - shopping and partying with their mates and having a gorgeous, preferably rich, bloke on their arm.

"Victoria Beckham is the ultimate icon for today's young women; they admire her style and want her wardrobe.

"She's the woman who makes them think, 'if you want it, get it'."

But young women are also a mass of contradictions; 92 per cent say that celebrities are too thin but the super-slim Beckham was voted as having the second best female body.

Two thirds say they care about the environment, yet only 4 per cent would be willing to pay more tax to protect it.

Nine out of 10 say that the desire for cosmetic surgery is "spiralling out of control" but 40 per cent would go under the knife to have bigger breasts.

The only woman to make it on to the most admired list who is not an actress, model or singer is Tory MP Anne Widdecombe - yet 89 per cent of respondents said they had no interest in politics.

And while three-quarters of young women insist they are "having a ball", they admit they will soon be ready to settle down. The average respondent wants to get married at 26 and have a baby at 27.

FEMININITY RATHER THAN FEMINISM

* Four out of 10 admit that they rely on their parents to bail them out when they overspend.

* The average young British woman goes out four nights a week and six out of 10 women are drunk at least once every seven days.

* Seven out of 10 say their social life is better than their mother's at the same age and more than half believe they have a better sex life, but 55 per cent admit that they experience less romance than their parents. Posh Spice the icon for girls who just want to have fun

Worrying, isn't it Deesh. The same story (word for word - it must be a PA feed) was in our papers today. You know celebrity culture's gone too far when even one person in the country still watches 'Big Brother'...

It's a great thing, yes. In Scotland there are only four divisions (that sounds like loads to you, I know, but compared with the number of clubs and divisions in England - all of whom could theoretically gain promotion to the Premiership if they did well enough - it's nothing). The team at the bottom of the Third Division (which is the bottom division, on account of the top flight being the 'Premier League', second is the First Division, etc.) set a record a couple of years ago for the most consecutive losses in the history of football, anywhere in the world. There was nowhere for them to get relegated to, so they just kept getting worse and worse. And our football programmes were looking at their situation saying 'if these poor bastards were ALLOWED to be relegated, it would actually help them - they'd go down, beat everyone in a worse league the following season, and suddenly have far more confidence when they come back up.'

The US leagues can't allow relegation because clubs there are run as franchises, obviously (hence players sign for the MLS rather than a club per se). There are some advantages to that which many people here would like to see implimented - such as salary caps (which would only work if they were worldwide, or at least Europe-wide, and there lies the problem), more equal distribution of the TV revenue and ticketing, etc. But there are many problems, too. It surely can't be a coincidence that a decade or so after other countries learned to play basketball, you lot are no longer the best in the world at it, for instance.

Funny, though, because in some ways the American system is more meritocratic, yet in others the rest of the world's way of doing it works better...

Well, i have to admit that Lecce is a real strong team, able to play and face off the big ones.
Players r very good: all that Lecce needs is a good C.T. : actually the society is going to run with Zeman; he already set the team and took it at high livel
