Very interesting and informative discussion. I think if we could all make small changes...we could collectively have a big impact.

Personally, I mostly eat veggie, but am not 100% veg. I consider it a lot, especially after reading all this. I don't buy meat, but on holidays I'll eat what the family is having. I still like fish, and I love dairy products, so don't think I could be vegan. I have made the change to buying only CAGE FREE eggs, non-hormone injected milk, and wild salmon. And yet I forgot about the poor male chicks. Which makes me think, why waste them? Why can't they be left to grow and then be eaten? Do they taste funny? I wonder. Anyway, that is a sad sight.

As there is no cholesterol in vegetables, it is much healthier, and as the #1 cause of death (at least in AMErica) is heart disease, people should take it into consideration. I did manage to go veggie for a year and then I went to South AMerica where they serve a lot of meat, and who can say no to an empanada?

Sure! Empanadas are irresistible. You can eat vegetables empanadas, but is not quite the same.

Here is my contribution to this discussion. A series of programmes are being shown in the UK at the moment re: food.

Here is one called "Cook it, Kill it, Eat it" - where the killing process of animals is shown. This can put people off meat for life!

Beware!!!!!!!! this may be extremely disturbing for some of you (it certainly was for me!)

Actually I can imagine the pictures... I have seen a lot of those material but years AFTER my decision to be vegetarian. I am aware of what is happening in the food industry - and I am glad I am no longer part of it.

i've seen parts of the show here on tv. it's basically a cooking show where people have to prepare their own food... all the way!

i think, it's quite easy for people to go into a supermarket and pick up a steak or sausage and forget the animal behind it. this programme on the other hand forces people to realize what they are eating

To each their own, I say. Smile

My beliefs and lifestyle is healthy, clean food: meat, fish, eggs, veggies, real butter, real cream. As few additives, chemicals as possible. No sugar or sweeteners.

I prefer to make food the way my grandparents did and their parents, real food. No junk food or fast food if possible.

I believe humans are made fod a balanced diet of meat, natural fat and vegetables. Smile

i cannot watch this bbc uk video jamiroquanna put, then i want to watch it. Confused
how much horror?
which more horror, this jamiroquanna's one or Jamie's one??

today i watched "Jamie's great Italian escape, Episode 3 & 4" on tv.

i watched rabbits (already has skinned...)there for the first time. Shocked
that rabbit's eyes was gross.
i LOVE rabbit, i will never be able to kill rabbit to eat.
because rabbit is sooooo cute.
but, these rabbits(already has skinned) were not cute. only gross.
and, the Jamies cooking looked delicious.
i thought i want to eat the Jamies cooking. Razz

in episode 4, one sheep...Jamie & owners went to the pen,
and then they bound the sheep's foots with blue string,
the sheep did not struggle so much,
a lot of other sheeps watched it,
Jamie & owners carried the sheep to another far place,
the sheep was laid on the grass,
one owner pressed the sheep,
Jamie put a knife on the sheep's throat,
but Jamie closed his eyes & turned his face away the sheep,
he felt pity so much,
the sheep was so silent.
the next scene...maybe owner helped Jamie to do it,
a bit of blood under the sheep's throat.
a dog was licking the throat on the grass.

if this sheep was a baby sheep, i would feel so sad.
but, this sheep was adult.
someday this sheep will be dead.
the time came only a little bit early.
maybe this way was the best...its instant pain, not long pain, maybe.
and Jamie said like this(this tv's Jamie told japanese version)...
this sheep has been rearing with much love during sheep's lifetime...

these Jamie's cooking looked delicious. Razz
i never want to kill animals with my own hands.
then i really appreciate the people who bring meats to us, and especially these animals.
Wink

Hey Ririka, this is a pretty big issue in the news here in Australia at the moment, and I'm just curious... what is the general opinion in Japan about whale hunting?

Over here it's generally seen as barbaric and the whole "scientific research" defense given by them as a reason for killing around 1000 whales each year as nothing short of ludicrous.

Just wondering about it from the Japanese point of view seeing as we never get to hear it out here, save for the politicians and their spin.

Shocked
...do you really want to know "the GENERAL opinion in Japan about it" ?

if you want to fight about it, i dont want to say anything.
because i want to only enjoy here.

anyway, i just knew that i shouldn't have put my opinion on "Vegetarian" section here. :p

I don't think Andy put the question up there to fight. I think he put it up to just have a general discussion and get the opinion or view of someone from another country about a controversial subject that is getting lots of attention in his home country of Australia.

Your opinions in this thread and any thread are welcomed here for discussion purposes. Exposure to others' thoughts and such makes this place and life interesting.

So, if you feel comfortable, express yourself! Smile

If anyone knows how I could have posted this question in a less offensive manner, please let me know.
