Forgive my typing , I haven't'slept in 15 hours, lost sense of logic
This is how I see it in the US.
EOPE - We just starting out, we have a lot to protest about, young and angry/ranting. Raw as Hell. We don't care about the government. they are enemies. Save the whales. Greenpeace.
TROTSC - We mellowed out some but love to Jam and get high, all is good (bad pun), still have something to say but in a dramatic way. new members. Music style, trippy psychedelic jazz, space love somthin, (i like it)
TWM - Finally get some exposure in the States and they LOVE us!! This time Jay was in love and love lost, thus begins his somewhat crappy love life. (can't keep a woman/ not married) More money flows , expensive hobby starts (cars). core members still there. Chart topping songs, is a club favorite.Music style dance/funk/latin fusion lat of acid jazz touch of r&b.
SYNK - Sh*t hit the fan. Egos fly, drug habit start(kinda) lost core bass player, Jay more frustrated in interviews etc. Can't seem to top VI video. Ranting about it in songs. gets an new member. getting better at love ballads. Sales not that good here, kinda/sorta forget. loses yet another core member .1 song got movie play. Music style , disco/funk.electrofunk. more session players.
AFO - Got his damn heart broken again , sings about it. relying on computer beats. had a few songs that were the best lyrics since TROTSC.
Toby leaves after this tour starts, get new member. Funky dance stuff, slightly spiritual. drugs is at peak, get himself off later. reinvents himself and new guys for next album. Bad timing on release day.
DYN - only 2 core players left. New sound. a few videos, great tour, the only album I didn't know about , another song got movie play- music style - all over the place.
HT- 8 album deal over, kiss -off album., to hell with $ony. Got a grammy nom , but no win.
RDLS - I don't know yet , still trying to come up with an explanation.

Do you think Jay grew up? I think he chose money.
And now he sits alone. |

You know I'm just here for fun. But I love to counterpoint.
I don't know the guy (Jay).
But I've grown up. And I have a lot more things than when I was 20.
And y'know how many people I know who grew up, got married, had kids, divorced, and are now alone?
I mean, too bad for anybody in the spotlight. Picked apart by fans.
At least he was successful economically!
I mean, from your perspective he wouldn't have anything redeeming at all!
Some of you sound like you've got your hearts broken by Jay's image change. Don't get too close. |

I hate this part of the discussion when everybody starts to make assumptions about Jay's life and decitions. We don't know the guy, why can't we just keep the discussion only about the music? |

now I feel bad because you feel sorry XD
It's not that we shouldn't, but it's taking us nowhere, unless we ask him we won't know what happened. That's how I feel everythime I read this kind of post. Like when WKR and BS videos came out, remember? everybody had his theory about the meaning of these videos. In the end, what Jay said was, the videos doesn't have any meaning! XD |

I think it's healthy we have a place to express our feelings about the behind the scenes comings and goings with Jamiroquai. I love J, but I don't know him or owe him the benefit of doubt. You might have true believer-ism but I don't. I went through that with Janet Jackson -- now I accept J having an ego and a terrible temper -- he wants success -- nothing wrong with that but at this stage -- we're getting a lot of hallowness that wasn't there prior and this time he can't blame anyone but himself. |

Sometimes you can't help to talk about his life because its so closely connected with the music. It does give us a glimpse into him. Personally I would like to know him , but then something tells me that would be a bad idea. Or he could be another one of my best friends. (just sayin) Listening to the entire discography, I conclude he's an intelligent and complex man. I admire people like that, minus the temper and ego. _________________

Tiff,
You are hitting all the points amazingly hard and accurately. Loved reading your last few posts. Same with Jamarcus, I too love the fact that we have a place where we can talk about more obscure and deeper topics that go beyond just the music. _________________ www.funkfiction.com |

He's a passionate person. I think he's good to his friends but on the business side of things -- it's difficult when as a musician you're not the most talented one in the bunch but you're the most important because its your creation! He's responible as the captain of his crew. I really wish he spent some time writing poetry -- to get a lot of stuff off his chest and to improve the lyrical content of his future recordings. |

Absolutely, we can talk about anything.
But I cringe when people just ramble on about an(y) artists' personal life. Especially if it is negative. Why trash them?
The tabloids, the performer on stage, the lyrics, don't make up the real person. And, you can only know them so well. |

Exactly, everyone is free to talk about anything he wants.
I'm just saying, what we really know from him is his music
I don't relay very much in the stories about how a band member left the band, because everybody has his point of view. I bet that if a member leaves the band angry, he won't be talking flowers of Jay.
So, I don't know what happened, I really don't care that much.
Personally, I'm here because of the music. And you? |

You know as much of a bad era the Synkronized era was, I felt the album had a lot of winner tracks. Actually ever track is pretty damn awesome with the exceptions of BCD, WDWGFH, KFAD, and DU. Not to say those are bad songs, just not as great as everything else.
And this doesn't make it a super great album, just relatively solid. I would still trade it to hear Symphonized instead. What a force Jamiroquai would have been and be today if they toughed it out through the hard times!! _________________ www.funkfiction.com |

yeah.. surely Simphonized could have been a great album, better than Synk for sure, not only because of the band members, but also because Synk was made in a hurry. |
