I'm curious about something. The very first time they played Rock Dust Light Star, that setlist also included Goodbye To My Dancer, which they didn't play. I think it wasn't played live at all, am I correct?

That's correct. I forget who, but somebody posted a pic of the setlist. They were going to play two songs from their new album, but politics being a bedfellow of business decided otherwise.

This version of Starchild is really great! I wish they would play more songs, which they haven't played for a long time. Smile

Laughing Did anyone notice there is a new back-up singer? who is she?

Crying or Very sad I agree, this "greatest hits" setlist is getting boring.

Confused and it is a bit strange (as an American) that they play in Russia. but they probably don't care what's going on "politically" and had it booked before the start of the conflict. money to be made $$$

Wink Starchild is refreshing.

It sure is... for us! It's a festival, they have to be "efficient". Most of the audience only know the "main" songs, and that's what they want to hear.
Honestly, if I go to a U2 gig (and I already have), what I want to hear is "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "With or Without You" and the likes!

So, all in all, I guess it's just as good if they keep "Scam" and "All Good in the Hood" for their full shows, not festivals, however frustrating for us...

I don't think it is. If Jay was singing at a private party for Putin and his family, that would sure be a problem, but you can't blame and boycott a full country because of its leader. What would you have thought if Jamiroquai had declared they refuse to play in the States because of the actions of George Bush? You would have thought it was stupid and you'd be right...

If we go this way, then why wouldn't Beyonce refuse to sing in the southern states of the US, because "they're all a bunch of racist rednecks", Justin Bieber wouldn't go the the US 'cause "they don't like Canada"... (Ok, that wouldn't be a big loss! Wink )

The point is, I guess you can always come up with a good reason to boycott whatever you want...

Lol ! Yes, I checked when writing my message and saw that they last played in the US in 2005. I was actually amazed how fast time goes.

But I guess that the reason for that, unfortunately, was given in your previous message : "money to be made $$$"
If they could play in front of sold out arenas in the US like Madonna, I'm pretty sure they'd be there every other week! Laughing

Last time they crossed the Atlantic, it was for 10 big shows in South America. They probably aren't popular enough to do the same in the US.

Actually, it might not even be the band's fault, but US promoters. Let's say that booking the band for a gig costs 100.000 dollars with all the crew, transportation, lodging, catering, etc. (I have no idea what the actual price is) and promoters just decide they won't make any profit.

...but then again, if Jay really wants to please the US fans, it's always possible to accept and lower prices for once and do a couple of lower-key gigs. He can afford it...

...but then again, on the weird "where are we touring next ?" theme, just look at that.

Since 2005, Jamiroquai played only ONCE a full gig of their own in a big venue in London (O² in April 2011). Others were either festivals or in small venues. There was NO full gig in London for the Dynamite tour...

Again, since 2005,
- In the UK, Jamiroquai played 16 times: 11 of their own gigs, 5 times at festivals. And in the 11 gigs, there's a fair number of low-key concerts, like the Debut Club.
- In France, they played 26 times: 18 own gigs (incl. just one low-key gig) and 8 festivals.
(just for the record, figures from Funkin listings, only counting gigs for which you could actually purchase tickets, no private events or competitons)

I really find it weird Jamiroquai play MUCH more in France than in their home country. Maybe in France, "Jamiroquai" remains a "bigger" name than in the UK, and attracts more audience (and cash...)

Russia ain't really at war at the moment. Funny such a question comes from someone who is from a country that is constantly at war for many decades now. (HoneyBee, you're from the US, aren't you?)

haha I just saw this! America doesn't necessarily start wars, but they get involved in other country politics. So maybe we feed wars!

The U.S. citizens don't really support the war efforts our politics get involved in. And the medias that we are exposed to give us a biased opinion. Just as your opinion of Americans is probably biased! Wink

Starchild was great!

It makes you wonder which songs they've played at every gig they had outside of a major tour?

Mmmhmm...nothing like Jamiroquai pulsating happily live to the teeming masses of the Jamily! BTW, here are two nearly FULL recordings of this gig that I just discovered just popped up on Youtube (both in nearly 720p HD!):

VIDEO 1#: Jamiroquai Live at Picnic Afisha, Moscow, 19.07.2014:

Really love the new arrangements of Jami classics on this gig! Enjoy!
